In terms of visual effects, which movies from the 1990's still hold up today?

Jurassic Park is the top in my opinion. Some of the best uses of practical effects & animatronics of all time. Not to mention CGI that was way ahead of its time.

It still looks more mind blowing that Man of Steel liquid metal.

CGI today isnt top notch,it looks like if studios dont have enough power for the number of movies coming today.

It isn't so much that they don't have the power its that since CGI has become so mainstream there are a lot more options for Hollywood to take so they look for ways to cut corners. For instance in Terminator 2 they did the T-1000 motion capture close to a dozen times(I forget the exact number) to make sure the motion looked as natural as normal. Where as most films today go through the motion capture sequence once. And its not just that technology has advanced that much, it's that it looks fine after one go through. Not good, just fine. So they figure its good enough, why waste more money to make it better. It's just a different mentality I suppose.

For the first film ever to be completely made in CG, Toy Story still looks pretty good.

@ganon15:

prove it

LOL. I still thoroughly enjoy the film all these years later and it doesn't look goofy like most of the films from that era!;)
