50's Future Culture

So, people of Comcivine, I have an odd request.

My friend is attempting to write a paper referencing 50's pop culture. She needs to be able to verify (not necessarily cite) some photo documentation that in the 50's, kids had access to kind of concepts or ideas about futuristic transit and road ways. She cited Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers as examples, but I couldn't find any information about their popularity in the 50's. Similarly, my knowledge of that specific branch of pop culture is fairly limited.

So, basically,I need to be able to verify that concepts of 'futuristic' roadways and transit (more the roadways) were available to kids of the 50s.

Anyone able to help?
