20th Century Fox has the Film rights to Daredevil, Blade, the Fantastic Four, the X-Men and Ghost Rider. What if the decide to create their own MCU? Age of Apocalypse, anyone?

As far as I'm aware, they only have the rights to specific characters and specific things associated with them, so they wouldn't be able to do a decent job of it. Plus Marvel is trying to buy back as many of the rights as they can.
It should also be noted that most of the online databases have the different movies being set in different universes:
X-Men movies are set in Earth 10005
Daredevil and Elektra movies are set in Earth 701306
I have looked into Ghost Rider and Fantastic Four, but it doesn't give a specific Marvel Universe, though Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance would be in another Universe, as it's a rebooted sequel
Ghost Rider movie rights are actually owned by Sony/Columbia, not Fox. So a Spidey/Ghost Rider crossover is theoretically possible, although I don't know if the rights to cross-pollinate characters are included in those agreements. Also, Marvel has the Blade rights again, which probably means you won't being seeing any Blade films for some time.
But to your point, I doubt Fox will try to intermingle the three Marvel franchises they own, just because Daredevil and FF were so bad and most of the X-Men movies have done very well on their own. From a movie executive standpoint, including other characters in the X-movies only has the potential to mess things up.

True, but Fox is planning to reboot F4, X-Men, and Daredevil. With how lucrative Avengers is, Fox may act opportunistically--even if they make crappy films.

Blade was owned by New Line Cinema, now it's back with Marvel... and I'm pretty sure that Fox would need permission to make the movies, as they are the distributors and not the studios that make the movies.
Age of Apocalypse will likely never happen. One, the majority of the movie goers haven't read or even know anything about it. Two, the build up would take too long and most likely ruin the movies. Three, there's no way in hell anyone who fund the movie if they plan on just starting it in a post apocalyptic world with a five minute explanation.

They do more than distribute for those properties. They choose the directors, actors, and script. They fund the movie, etc. Marvel has little say in what they do with the properties other than major tweaks to characters and not allowing them to use characters specified in contracts. But since they have the whole FF and the most important X-Men as well as Daredevil--I think that they COULD make an interesting crossover universe. Will it happen? I don't know. Can it happen--I don't know much about the paperwork and legal side--but I would guess yes.

People don't know about Thanos either but that happened. So did Iron Monger, Bulleseye, and Abomination.
Build up would take about as long as the studios want it to. It could be 1 movie of more like the Avengers stuff.
And who are you to say that Fox wouldn't fund the movie if they thought that they could make money off of it?

@Captain13: A super-villain is different than an entire setting. Movies based on comic books are meant to put focus on the heroes, not the setting and back story. Anyone who studied media for a month would know that.
Thor's setting was pretty relevant to the film. And Age of Apocalypse is not just about the setting. And how the world gets to the Age of Apocalypse could be it's own movie. Look at Terminator 2, 3, and 4. Anyone who studied media for a month would know that, right?
I'm not asking for this to happen. Just saying that it's possibility because it's not impossible.

The answer is no, it wouldn't happen, they only have the rights to certain characters, which means they can only use certain characters, they are:
The problem with this is that to make another movie, they would have to take characters they've already used and do something new with them... in addition, they wouldn't be able to create any merchandising for the movie, or do anything else with those characters that isn't stated in the original chain of title agreement, plus Fox would be going against Marvel... and Marvel is owned by Disney.. and if there is one thing on this whole, entire planet you do not want to mess with, it's Micky Mouse.
Plus [and this is based on my own understanding of the facts, not the "actual facts"]
Fox only own the options to the characters, which is about 10% of the rights to that character, Disney own the rest, so the contract they would have, would say that Disney can only use Fox for movies with their characters in, but Fox would also need Disney's permission to use their characters as they both hold the rights, but again, that is my interpretation of the situation.

Just to weigh in on this one, because it does relate to my last post... given the scenario that Fox is defying Disney and just making their own movies with Marvel Characters... they couldn't use Apocalypse, or his Four Horsemen, or Cable... so it wouldn't be that much of a movie
