I don't agree with a single one because they all have potential to be great.

Disagree with the list. only to the point the man who wrote the list did not seem to read any of the comics at all. he is basing it on pre-conceptions or what he knows about a character or series from what he had seen in articles or videos. Any character has the ability to have a movie. but to film industry it has to be beyond the film to be able to make money of merchandise and make the name a household ideal.

There are so man dependencies to make a great movie, its writing, casting, budget. its a deep investment and a studio has to consider all these factors before dropping alot of money into it. if anything I think straight up animated movies would be better. the direct to DVD/BluRay is a great approach and DC makes great animated films. you can do more with animated than real life actors anyways.

Every single one of them except the Power Pack should get their own movie some day.

When I've tried to argue anything on CV from the standpoint of the actual movie business, people just don't get it.

As comic fans we like to think we are this huge market - just look how big ComicCon is - but in reality, we are small, a drop in the bucket compared to the kind of numbers Hollywood needs to bring in to make a film profitable. And then there is your point about all the things that are needed to make a great movie (and all those things that can go wrong and make it stink). I agree with you on the animated films. Some of the best comic movies (at least superhero ones) have been animated.

@etragedy: i agree on no legacies (super boy, robin, etc) because why see (insert favorite superhero)-lite? a good wonder woman movie would be hard becasue hollywood would need to focus on making a strong female lead that doesn't have to be overly sexual . aquaman could be written so that the character gains credibility back from being seen as a joke character, anyone who read the current geoff johns series can attest to it.

obscure heroes like capt marvel , hawkman, or MM would function better as a tv series than as solo movies . no one cares about power pack. a nick fury movie could work, it can focus on his younger years (ik everyone like nazi-killing but this fury would be iraq-iran/persian gulf war hero) find a younger , fit, sam jackson look-a-like to play fury and feature him in his adventures as a young man .

Great movies:

WonderWoman, Aquaman, Shazam, Xmen:

Wonder woman would be absolutely awesome if they find a good actress not just one with huge boobs. Aquaman would be awesome but first make him cool in a JLA movie. Little kids would love a Shazam movie and I'd think he'd be the most relatable. Some Xmen could make awesome solo movies.

Good Movies:

Hawkman, MMH, Supergirl, Superboy

Hawk man could work but I'd say use Carter Hall. I'll be pissed if it is Katar Hol. I'm not much for MMH but if its done right it would blow me away. And for Supergirl just have her in superman first. Then try a movie? superboy could be absolutely insanely awesome if they got a good teenage actor who doesn't make you want to punch him.

Crap that I couldn't care less about:

Nick Fury,Power Pack:

These are awaste of everybody's time and maybe one person on the planet will like them.

I disagree with the list completely. I would have no problem if many of those guys had movies. Especially Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter, and Aquaman. As for Nick Fury, they should just do a SHIELD movie with him, Black Widow, and Hawkeye.

#9 Posted by etragedy (578 posts) - 2 months, 22 days ago - Show Bio

It's not that I don't think that these movies could be good.

In fact I think every single one of them could be well done (except Power Pack which is just... no).

The problem is - given the current state of Hollywood, the economics and business of it - they wouldn't be done well. They would almost be doomed to failure from the get go.

Yeah, this is true.

i hate lists like this. while i agree no sidekicks(exrobin), i believe that any hero has potential in the hands of a good writer etc.

#12 Posted by guttridgeb (4316 posts) - 2 months, 22 days ago - Show Bio

If done right, any of those could be brilliant movies. However, I do think that movies for these characters should be done only if everyone involved his wholly committed and thinks it will work. Movies like these could easily go askew.

Wonder Woman would tank as would Robin, Aquaman, Hawkman, Superboy and Manhunter. The only one I care about would be Martian Manhunter but I doubt he'll ever even get the chance at a solo movie. Warner Brothers can't make anything successful unless it has to do with Batman.

#15 Posted by SNascimento (301 posts) - 2 months, 22 days ago - Show Bio

Well, with WW the author doesn't say why she doesn't need a movie, but why he rather not see it. So I guess the title is missleading. Samething with Aquaman.

#18 Posted by Matchstick (561 posts) - 2 months, 22 days ago - Show Bio

I actually agree with the majority of the list. While comics fans know those could be some good movie, great movies even, they just don't have mass appeal. Most of those stink of box office failure. Besides, in the vast world of comics there are better movies to be made so why bother with any of those.

#19 Edited by stumpy49er (595 posts) - 2 months, 22 days ago - Show Bio

That article had a vendetta against DC. I disagree with the whole list. All characters deserve a chance but not all movies will be good. IMO it depends a lot more on the studio that's producing it than the actual characters themselves. There are no bad characters after all, just bad writers (or in this case bad producers, directors, writers, actors etc.)

#20 Posted by BlueLantern1995 (2209 posts) - 2 months, 22 days ago - Show Bio

Agree with Supergirl(best in a Superman movie), Wonder Woman(to difficult to do right), sorta with Martian Manhunter, Superboy, Hawkman, and Power Pack. Other than those I disagree...

#21 Posted by sagejonathan (658 posts) - 2 months, 22 days ago - Show Bio

Then writer of that list doesn't know what he's talking about. With the exception of Nick Fury and Power Pack, every one of them could make a spectacular movie.

Given how most movies seem to go nowadays I agree that mostly everyone on this list doesn't need a movie. Nick Fury and Wonder Woman being the 2 possible exceptions.

Hulk agree with all except Nick Fury and Wonder Woman. Hulk have been waiting for it for some time, and Hulk is STILL WAITING.

The writer doesn't seem like much of a comics reader. But I do agree with some of the choices, if not really the explanations.

While any superhero, no matter how much of a B-Lister, does have the potential to be made into a 'good' (read: critically-acclaimed) movie, it doesn't necessarily mean that I would want to see it. For instance, characters like Martian Manhunter or Nick Fury. While they're perfectly fine within their respective franchises (JLA and Avengers), I really have no interest in watching solo films for them. They're great as supporting characters, but outside of that, I'd be left wondering if the effort taken to make that could be put to better use.

Same thing for legacy characters. Interesting supporting characters, but for a solo movie, I could care less about Superboy (or the Power Pack for that matter).

A Shazam movie would be kickass though!

#28 Posted by Manwhohaseverything (876 posts) - 2 months, 21 days ago - Show Bio

I'm actually going to disagree with Power Pack, though first they need an ongoing series. In the mid 80's Power Pack was one of the best books out there. It was unique in that the kids actually acted like kids. A rarity in comics even today. That can have great appeal if done right. Now, I'm only speaking artistically. From a business stand point, I agree a Power Pack movie makes little sense, as no one would see it. I do feel, however, if it was ever a good comic, it can be a good TV show or movie, and when L. Simonson and June Bridgman were doing Power Pack, it was a great book.

Wonder Woman already did a very good animated movie. heck, I think if they just took that story and made it a live action film, it'd be a hit.

Shazam could be a ton of fun. Love to see that.

#29 Posted by longbowhunter (3585 posts) - 2 months, 21 days ago - Show Bio

Sure we dont need 'em, but Wonder Woman and Aquaman movies would be nice. I understand Hollywood not wanting to cater to the comic fans. We are a small demographic and the movies take an exceptional amount of effort and money. I was bitchin' the other day about movies like Project X and 21 & Over. How they only appeal to kids 16-20 years old and still get made. But then I realized they cost virtually nothing to make.

Yes and no... but they probably would pull some Kristen Stewart crap or something.

I think Supergirl and Wonder Woman could be really successful in the right hands and you can't go wrong with X-men

#32 Posted by Manwhohaseverything (876 posts) - 2 months, 21 days ago - Show Bio

@AllStarSuperman: That's why we always add the disclaimer "if done right" That way, if they do come out with one, and it sucks, we say "They didn't do it right."

#33 Edited by FalconPuuunch (939 posts) - 2 months, 21 days ago - Show Bio

The X-Men films were great for what they were. Even with all the plot holes and inconsistencies it still was a good trilogy and spinoff series with a great cast.

I agree however with the Superman related films that aren't Superman.

How can Hollywood possibly give someone like Superboy or Supergirl justice when they can't even produce a good Superman film.

#34 Posted by darkman61288 (351 posts) - 2 months, 21 days ago - Show Bio

I agree with the guy on All of them. All those characters serve a niche market even Wonder Woman. The comics that are made into movies are the ones that have the broadest appeal. Movies are after all a business.
