Welcome back to 10 Comics to Buy This Week. As you're probably well aware, there are a metric crap-ton of comic books hitting shelves every single week. And for the common consumer, it's financially impossible to pick up everything. That's where this column steps in like your superhero savior, drawing your attention to 10 books worth your hard-earned dollars during any given week.

We not only going to spotlight tights and capes books, but also some indie titles off the beaten path, which, if all goes well, will broaden your reading horizons.

Batman #9

No Caption Provided

After last month’s prelude chapter to the "Night of the Owls" crossover, Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo continue the siege of Wayne Manor by the Court of Owls. Will Bruce be able to protect Alfred and the Batcave from an army of Talons?

Plus: the back-up story by Snyder and James Tynion IV, with art by Rafael Albuquerque, reveals hidden secrets of the Pennyworth family that could shake Bruce to his very core.

Batman and Robin #9

No Caption Provided

Peter Tomasi and Patrick Gleason get involved in the “Night of the Owls” crossover event sweeping through the majority of the New 52’s Bat-titles.

In this issue, Robin goes one on one with a Talon. Will the Boy Wonder be man enough to take on one of these assassins alone? If Damian’s past adventures are anything to go by, we’re going to say yes.

Captain America #11

No Caption Provided

Ed Brubaker and artist Patrick Zircher kick off a new story arc called “System Failure.” When ex-super villains in witness protection are systemically murdered, it’s up to Cap to figure out what is going on. This issue marks the return of an old villain and an old lover. Get pumped for a little star-spangled Three’s Company, y’all.

Fatale #5

No Caption Provided

We inch ever closer to the conclusion of Fatale’s first arc. As the solicit reads, all the pieces are in place, Josephine and her lover are prepared to execute their plan, but only one of them know what they’re truly dealing with. Plans will go awry, and there will be blood, apparently.

Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips’ Fatale has been a healthy dose of pulp crime fiction and horror. Every issue of the series has delivered thus far, so we see no reason why Fatale #5 won’t live up to expectations.

Green Lantern #9

No Caption Provided

Welcome to part three of “The Secret of the Indigo Tribe.” In this issue, Hal and Sinestro learn the “horrific” truth behind the members of the Indigo Tribe and their connection to Abin Sur. Furthermore, the Guardians continue to push to replace the Green Lantern Corps, by any means necessary.

Higher Earth #1

No Caption Provided

Written by Sam Humphries and drawn by Francesco Biagini, Higher Earth follows Heidi, a girl born in garbage, and Rex, a soldier gone rogue, who get caught up in a sci-fi epic that spans hundreds of earth and hundreds of timelines.

For fans of Humphries, Higher Earth is a pseudo follow-up to last year’s indie hit, “Our Love is Real.” If you like your comics with infinite possibilities, Higher Earth #1 is definitely worth checking out. Oh, and at $1, the investment isn’t very hard to justify.

Marvel’s Avengers: The Avengers Initiative

No Caption Provided

Like you, we’re still obsessing over Marvel’s Avengers. The movie rocked, and we want more. That’s why we’re excited to check out this special issue that acts as a prequel to the Avengers film, made for readers of all ages.

Written by Fred Van Lente and drawn by Ron Lim, Marvel’s Avengers: The Avengers Initiative should be a fun book with which we can continue our love affair with Joss Whedon’s version of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

Hopefully we also get more of that SHIELD agent who loves Galaga…

Mystery in Space #1

No Caption Provided

This over-sized, one-shot anthology issue features the work of Michael Allred, Paul Pope and more, as they set out to tell some of the wackiest stories set in space that your mind can possibly comprehend. Get excited for tales of broken hearts cryogenically frozen, a zero-gravity ménage a trois compromised by aliens, and solar systems spinning out of control.

While the $7.99 price tag is a little steep, we fully believe the work found within Mystery in Space will be well worth the price of admission.

Punisher #11

No Caption Provided

Matt Murdock got over the Omega Effect crossover by going out on a date. Frank Castle gets over recent events by going on a killing spree. Priorities, priorities.

Additionally, Frank finally opens up to Rachel Cole, and she might not like what she hears. Is there still a chance for her to live a normal life, and will the Punisher push her towards it?

Uncanny X-Force #25

No Caption Provided

Uncanny X-Force celebrates its 25 issue with the start of “The Final Execution.” Join Rick Remender and artist Mike McKone as they introduce “The Omegas,” and explain why the X-Force must hunt them down.

In addition to the main story found in this issue, we also get a special tale by Remender and Jerome Opena starring Wolverine and Deadpool, the best bromance in the Marvel Universe.

Same here. So excited for Batman and GL. The writing on both titles has been stellar. And I can definitely say that Mystery in Space has me intrigued. I am definitely going to pick it up.

Of these, I'm picking up Batman, Batman & Robin, Green Lantern, Mystery in Space and Uncanny X-Force... although if this issue of Uncanny X-Force does not improve substantially over the last arc, I'm out.

Is 7.99 really that steep when you consider it's got the content of more then three comics priced at 2.99?

And no Fairest #3? :O

Some might see it as a turn-off, but you're absolutely right: for the amount of content, $7.99 is kind of a steal for that book, going off the assumption it's all worthwhile, that is.

I get both and I am enjoying Punisher way more than Cap. Check out Daredevil as well. Great story going on there and it is probably a bit better than Punisher on the writing side, Punisher has the better art though.

@zackattack529: Depends who you like. Both Punisher and Cap are written by good writers. If you prefer Cap and Brubaker, go with Cap but it's a 4 dollar book. If you like Rucka and Punisher more go with Punisher which is a dollar cheaper. Same pg count on both books. Any book would be great since they don't tie in to anything. Personally I go with the chepaer books like Punisher (Rucka), Winter Soldier(Brubaker), or Daredevil(Waid) more bang for the 2.99 books.

Well, it is built off of what was established in #1... but this actual arc really began with #8. Everything before it contributes wonderfully, but if you can't assemble 1-7, you would be at a perfectly comfortable point beginning with #8.
