Welcome to our new weekly feature -- 10 Comics to Buy This Week. There are a metric crap-ton of comic books hitting shelves every single week. And for the common consumer, it's financially impossible to pick up everything. That's where this column steps in like your superhero savior, drawing your attention to 10 books worth your hard-earned dollars during any given week.

We intend to not only spotlight tights and capes books, but also some indie titles off the beaten path, which, if all goes well, will help broaden your reading horizons in the process.

American Vampire #24

No Caption Provided

Scott Snyder and Rafael Albuquerque conclude "Death Race" with a sworn enemy's identity revealed and a lot of blood spilled. Thus far, we've been loving this look at 1950s Americana with a vampiric twist through the lens of Snyder and Albuquerque. We can't wait for more. And we get just that this week.

Aquaman #6

No Caption Provided

For this issue of Aquaman, writer Geoff Johns focuses on Aquaman's main squeeze, Mera, as she investigates the sinking of Atlantis. But going further down the rabbit hole will lead Mera to some intriguing revelations about her own dark past. If you haven't been following Aquaman yet, now's the time to jump on the bandwagon. Seriously, Aquaman is awesome.

Fantastic Four #603

No Caption Provided

It all comes down to this -- Galactus versus the Celestials, the return of the Future Foundation and the last stand of the Fantastic Four. This latest arc in Fantastic Four, "Forever," has been epic as all get out, and we can wait to see how it all plays out this week.

Flash #6

No Caption Provided

Following the climatic events of last issue, Barry must come to terms with how his battle with Mob Rule turned out. Meanwhile, there's a murder mystery to solve that dates back 150 years, which will reveal the true origins of Central and Keystone City.

I, Vampire #6

No Caption Provided

The Queen of Blood has taken over Gotham City with her army of vampires, and it's up to Andrew, with the help of Batman, to stop her. In addition, Mary will lose something/someone dear to her in the process. If you haven't been reading I, Vampire yet, please remedy that mistake by picking up the previous five issues along with this week's issue #6. You won't regret it.

Ray #3

No Caption Provided

Justin Gray and Jimmy Palmiotti continue their interesting revision of The Ray character. In this issue, Lucien sets out to juggle saving his girl, Chanti, from the clutches of the Isopods while also trying to rescue her parents from the evil Director. This mini-series might not be perfect, but this new take on The Ray has proven itself entertaining, delivering a superhero story where the super heroics come easy when compared to every day life problems.

Secret Avengers #23

No Caption Provided

Rick Remender and Gabriel Hardman continue their run on Secret Avengers, introducing Venom to the team as they journey into the center of the earth to find the one known as "Father." We're expecting more off-the-walls concepts and hilariously witty characterization from Remender and company with this new issue of Secret Avengers.

Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #7

No Caption Provided

In this month's installment, Scorpion comes to New York City and Uncle Aaron discovers a secret about his nephew, Miles. While Peter Parker might be missing from the pages of Ultimate Spider-Man, it's still a fantastic read that's both immensely entertaining and surprisingly unpredictable.

Venom #13.3

No Caption Provided

Writer Jeff Parker and artist Julian Tedesco jump aboard to continue this awesome mini event starring Venom, Red Hulk, X-23 and Ghost Rider. After succumbing to their Antitheses, it looks like our heroes are down and out with Hell quickly spreading across earth. What hope do us mere mortals now have? We're not exactly sure, but we're excited to find out in Venom #13.3.

Wolverine And The X-Men #6

No Caption Provided

Woo! A new issue of Wolverine and the X-Men so soon after the last one! According to Marvel, this is the issue where things get worse, with Wolverine and Kid Omega traveling to an intergalactic casino to win some cash to keep the Jean Grey School open. Yea, we can't see this going smoothly either.

Even though it's not on the list, I have to pick up Superman as well.

Not to be nit-picky but all of this week's pics were Marvel/DC, last month these books fell into the following brackets in terms of sales:

  • #01-10: Flash, Aquaman
  • #11-20: Wolverine and the X-Men
  • #21-30: Ultimate Comics Spider-Man
  • #30-40: Fantastic Four
  • #41-50: Secret Avengers
  • #60-70: Venom
  • #111-120: I, Vampire
  • #121-130: American Vampire
  • #131-140: Ray

Everyone one of these books outsold Chew, Lobster Johnson, Vampirella, The Unwritten, Morning Glories, iZombie, Sweet Tooth, Irredeemable, Tiny Titans, Hack/Slash, Scalped, Usagi Yojimbo, Avengelyne, PIGS and a number of other great books

I'm not saying they aren't the best, I love two of those books (and thought one of the others I dropped was good, just not my thing) but last week there was at least two Dark Horse and an Image release...I think either this feature should up the amount of comics or go out of its way to not spotlight the ones everyone's reading already (like reserve three spots for non Marvel/DC books)

Maybe recommend stuff like RASL #13, Too Much Coffee Man or Lil Depressed Boy #9? (I've never read any of those but the desire has existed at various points)

I think you make fair points. It's honestly going to fluctuate each and every week. Like you mentioned, last week saw a few great indies starting up or coming out. This week is a little light on that end, so we stuck mostly with the solid tights and capes books that you should be picking up. As this column ages we'll be doing more with independents and spotlighting things off the beaten path. At least that's our hope.

Definitely picking up Aquaman, Secret Avengers, Fantastic Four, and Wolverine & the X Men. I wish Children's Crusade 9 wouldn't have gotten delayed again. Also looking forward to Uncanny X Force, Justice League Dark, New Mutants, Mighty Thor, Avenger's Academy, Teen Titans, & Magneto: Not a Hero.

Wow seriously? all the book up there are good but along with American Vampire and Venom (if remender was scripting it) Secret Avengers and Fantastic Four are the two best by far imo, if not the two best books at marvel.

This list suffers heavily from a lack of Morning Glories.

And I'm sorry, but The Flash is not as good as everyone likes to boast. Oh sure the artwork is outstanding and the presentation of the artwork is even better, but the storytelling is really awkward with clunky pacing. I have no dispute with anything else on this list. I, Vampire needs more recognition. I came into this article expecting to need to be ashamed at the lack of its presence, but was pleasantly surprised to see it was indeed included. Kudos on that.

Also, that's the wrong cover for I, Vampire. It was the one DC originally solicited, but they recently replaced it with a much better one that's actually drawn by the interior artist and thus better represents the tone of the series.

Yes Morning Glories is AWSOME!!! And I agree with everything you said about Flash, sure its good, but far from great. As for I, Vampire I feel like i am starting to like it more after each Issue, however i would not say its much better than Flash.

@Pbott: I'm biased, to an extent. I am a big vampire fan, and its been a while since I've encountered a vampire series that so perfectly represents my personal ideal of vampires. Although overall I do find it of high quality aside from that. With I, Vampire I say, to each their own, I LOVE love it, and think its still good enough to be all around great. Flash seems to have people hypnotized by the art. Each scene is perfectly well put together, but the flow is really bad in terms of stitching the scenes together into a proper story. It's not bad, it just isn't nearly worthy of "10 Comics to Buy This Week," especially when Morning Glories isn't on the list.

FYI, the Flash this month is different than the current solicitation. They're pushing this one-shot issue back and moving up the beginning of the Captain Cold storyline.

@The Mighty Monarch: Yeah, where's the Morning Glories love? Flash is pretty overrated, but I've only ever read last month's issue, so my opinion isn't valid.

ROFL at Wolverine and the X-Men's plot. You can't accuse Aaron of recycling old ideas. I think I might even pick it up, just because it sounds so bizarre.

Solid picks, I disliked New Guardians though. Didn't appeal to me for some odd reason.

Can't wait for Flash #6 too. My Pull-list this week consists of Flash, Aquaman, GL: New Guardians, Teen Titans, and I'm trying two new comics out, Peter Panzerfaust and something I've never brought, a Star Wars comic, Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi. Oh, and the freaky comic Morning Glories.
