The agile X-Man is eventually heading back to the big screen... and he's going to be played by Channing Tatum! While chatting with Total Film, X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner confirmed the 21 Jump Street star will step into Remy LeBeau's boots. The producer previously stated she wanted the actor for the role and, during press interviews for White House Down, Tatum also expressed great interest in the character.

Donner says Tatum's a good fit because he's a "rogue" and a "rascal" just like the card tossing X-Man. She also emphasized how Tatum knows New Orleans well and claims he can absolutely handle the action segments. You can watch the full interview here.

Viners, what do you think about Tatum as Gambit? Can you see him carrying a bo staff and strutting around in a trench coat? Speak your mind below.

No, I think it's a bad choice. Channing Tatum has yet to impress me.

Looks wise probably but other than that just no

#14 Posted by Crackdown (610 posts) - - Show Bio

Sure, why not? He has come a long way as an actor

#15 Posted by Jonny_Anonymous (34287 posts) - - Show Bio

So because a producer had a crush we get this? No thanks.

Its funny, everybody seemed a lot more open minded at the wimpy Wonder Woman pick and I hated it but I actually really like this pick and everybody hates it.

#17 Posted by flameboy298 (1908 posts) - - Show Bio

Another rumour is Zac Efron is the new cyclops wonder if its true

#18 Posted by Fallschirmjager (18750 posts) - - Show Bio

...yuck.

Rather have Taylor Kitsch. Way better actor. Not his fault the studio was on LSD when they wrote Origins.

#19 Posted by flameboy298 (1908 posts) - - Show Bio

@themagicstik: @themagicstik: The one casted for Wonder-Woman isn't half as bad as acting like Tatum he should really stick to comedies.

#20 Posted by SobeCin (13 posts) - - Show Bio

At least the actor is from Louisiana. He'll do fine.

Gambit was the redeeming part of xmen origins for me. this just feels wrong. He seems to muscular to be a stealthy thief.

I like the casting of Tatum (how can you say no to those eyes) but in what function and where will he be showing up as Gambit.

#24 Posted by JonSmith (4007 posts) - - Show Bio

Grow his hair out, put a smile on that face, give him the eyes, I heard he can do a decent Nawlens accent, but haven't seen it myself... I'm prepared to give him a shot. But maybe that's because I can't recall anything I've ever seen him in.

#25 Posted by Fallschirmjager (18750 posts) - - Show Bio

On the bright side maybe they will just misuse him again and we won't have to see much.

Magneto kills him with his own staff.

I can all ready imagine the internet gifs.

Nice! He's from the area, can do the accent, has the look, and has the charisma. They just need to get a good director...

#27 Posted by MuyJingo (1928 posts) - - Show Bio

He's actually a talented actor. It's why Soderbergh works with him.

He'll be fine.

I think were the only one's here. They could have named any actor and people would be upset though. Lol.

@sobecin: He's from Alabama and even admitted himself that he can't act

#33 Posted by RobotMonster (415 posts) - - Show Bio

@k4tzm4n: Tatum also speaks broken English. Good casting call.

Nothing wimpy about the Wonder Woman pick at all. Gal Gadot is a former soldier in the Israeli Army, and thus a Black Belt in Krav Maga. Thus giving her a solid foundation in terms of her h2h combat training for her upcoming role as Wonder Woman (Youtube "Nenad Ikras" and you'll see what I'm talking about) which to accurately portray the role would further include training in Kung Fu, Karate, Greco-Roman Wrestling, and training in archaic weaponry such as the sword and shield, spear/javelin, and perhaps even the bow and arrow. And she has even been quoted as saying that she's currently training in Kung Fu and sword fighting for the role as we speak, so somebody at Warner Bros. knows what I just told you.

She'll be fine, especially since she already knew how to fight before filming even began.

I think that it's a solid choice, personally I think that Channing Tatum is a little underrated as an actor, he's not great but he's in the same group as Henry Cavill or Chris Hemsworth and people love them.

Ultimately it comes down to how the character is written.

#38 Posted by joshmightbe (25003 posts) - - Show Bio

This is karmic payback for the fan reaction to Ben Affleck playing Batman.

#39 Posted by Nightwing_Beyond (162 posts) - - Show Bio

I'll make my first judgements when I see him in full costume in a trailer. He is a fan of the character so I'm willing to give him a chance. Hope he grows out his hair a bit for the role. It's also about time we get the black and red eyes;)

Maybe he's as good as Hemsworth, but that's not saying much. Hemsworth does fine as Thor, but everythign else I've seen him in is disappointing. Its literally like watching the same character - like in Snow White or Rush.

Cavill is a way better actor than Hemsworth. Cavill played Charles Brandon on The Tudors for like 5 years who is a playboy aristocrat. Completely different than Superman.

@fallschirmjager:

Agreed. He had the real Gambit vibe to me.

He really need more screentime!

#42 Posted by Fallschirmjager (18750 posts) - - Show Bio

@hagenti: They also ruined their shot to have Ben Foster as Angel.

Ben Foster is F*cking amazing.

I actually grew to like Channing Tatum after his role in 21 Jump Street, so i'll reserve my judgement until I see him in action.

#45 Posted by Lena_Dante (2493 posts) - - Show Bio

I'm not....actually opposed to this? I'll go on record with this again and say that the casting choices are the least of the X-Men film franchises problems.

#46 Edited by Squares (8024 posts) - - Show Bio

Like I needed more reasons to believe the X-film franchise is full of fail.

#47 Posted by youknowwhattodo (1467 posts) - - Show Bio

@fallschirmjager: No he isn't, Henry Cavill is a fine actor when he he is playing a charming and seductive character, just like Chris Hemsworth. However he does struggle when he's asked to do more.

Not exactly my first choice but alright. I would have actually rather seen the guy from X-Men origins come back and do it.

#50 Posted by flameboy298 (1908 posts) - - Show Bio

Wonder-Woman gets casted everyone goes crazy,Gambit gets casted everyone loves it.
