Hey guys!
Writers Helping Writers Thread
Edited By TypingKira
So I noticed that there are a few threads like this for the artists on the site, but not the writers. This Thread is intended to be a spot for writers to seek ideas, inspiration, horrible writing-related jokes and anecdotes about your journeys into mystery, romance, or fanfiction.
Have fun!
Okay, so I'll start then.
Does anyone else ever want to work on something, then open the document only to realize you didn't really want to?
" Okay, so I'll start then.not immediately, it usually takes me a while to get to that point. and i definitely hate it when that happensDoes anyone else ever want to work on something, then open the document only to realize you didn't really want to?"
@moviegeek17: Usually, when I start a project, I'm super excited to open it, but with projects that I've had going for a while, like My kindle project, I know what should happen, but like above, lack the motivation.
Been there before too man, i've found out in my years of writing on and off is that if i can get a few lines of dialogue or a few words in per day then i will be satisfied. Writing consistently is what i always strive for (lowers the chance of me going through writer's block)
I agree, but at the same time the way i see it, i'll have those days when i can only put down a paragraph, but then the next day i could pump out 2 or 3 pages like its nothing. I just go with the flow. Eventually everything will click.
took me about 4 years of writing to finally figure that out though! lol. better late than never
learning by doing is quite an effective method to becoming a better writer lol. especially since thats all i got.
Thats awesome! i've done some research and will try to take a couple at my college too in the future. for now though i write between schoolwork like its my job. which hopefully it will be one day.
i often start stories only to get stuck half way, convincing myself that what i wrote is a bunch of garbage, and the for the next couple of days my time to "write" becomes time just to stare at what i have and figure out how to make it better. by the end of it im really happy with what ive got (usually), but it can be a frustrating process.
@zombietag: It is frustrating, but I never go back. I just wait for some genius (usually that never comes) which is why I started limiting the number of projects I do from, like, seven, to like, three.
cool! what characters would you want to write if you got the chance? well everyone has their strengths and weaknesses, it took me a while to get comfortable with scripting things (i still write them my own way and not 100% the official ways but still you have to start somewhere. lol) Fortunately theres always time to improve in those areas. Which i definitely still need to do.
It's true, there's time. And I don't think there's exactly a proffesional format.
" @TypingKira said:Well yeah, that's the obvious one." @moviegeek17: Thor. Or the entire original Avengers lineup. That would be my dream.{cough} Balder's own series {cough} "It's true, there's time. And I don't think there's exactly a proffesional format."
I'd die if one day I'd get to write a real Balder mini with Anthy in it -- totally impossible, but a gal can dream ;}
" @TypingKira: you never know... "LOL, whatever you say.
SO how about you, anything to add to the thread?
" @CapFanboy said:Still a good dream to have :). i mean if you make into the comic industry then it could totally happen!!" @TypingKira said:Well yeah, that's the obvious one." @moviegeek17: Thor. " @moviegeek17: Lol, I guess it's possible, but I still strongly doubt it. But as a character, I do see some potential in Anthy (biased) "well its a good thing you see potential in her. it'd be kinda scary if you didn't and still tried to write her ;) lol.
@CapFanboy: :}
its always fun seeing your characters interact with others. especially when you think how to characters would act toward each other and all of those fun complexities
DO you have a favorite dynamic to write?
i'll use my comic as an example. i have this innocent teenage girl with powers of incredible destruction, paired with an emotionless, jaded and battle scarred indestructible soldier. they are great to write together.
" @TypingKira: i'll use my comic as an example. i have this innocent teenage girl with powers of incredible destruction, paired with an emotionless, jaded and battle scarred indestructible soldier. they are great to write together. "QFT!
I love my Byronic heroes. I use a very similar dynamic a lot.
yeah i like the dynamic the two have. she essentially is his only tie left to humanity. theyre always fun to write together :)
In one, I have the girl and the melancholy ageless doctor in charge of guarding her (which she doesn't take well) and the vivacious acrobat (it's kind of weird)
and in another, I have the girl and the banished, spurned young atlantian noble
all three have their own little intricacies.
those all sound rather intriguing :).
my dynamic is pretty dark but with a silver lining to it. both are really tragic characters that have been through a lot of rough times in their young lives. i have to admit i feel sorry making theyre lives so miserable sometimes. i want them to be happy lol
My situations involve the girl strongarming the guys into being happy (or else).
Me too! It sucks, but if the characters are happy all the time then the story is boring! We have to be so mean to them!
anytime. lol idk if you meant that to be funny but it made me chuckle. definitely an interesting dynamic.
in my situation she shows the guy the good in things and in turn prevents him from being a complete isolationist.
and sadly you are exactly right! until the end of your stories, hopefully things can work out for them then :).
thanks :), i definitely put a lot of my hear into it. oddly enough as my storied evolved the soldier unintentionally became a central character of the story. He has a definite character arc intended for him. and i can't wait to see how he reacts to what i throw at him :).
