“Patient has two severe lacerations to the neck, jugular is punctured and the spinal cord has been nicked also” stated the doctor as he applied pressure to Corporal Rogers’ wound “I need to cauterize and stem the haemorrhaging”
“I concur” said the four-armed robo-nurse as it readied for procedure
From the other side of the glass Jackson Barnes watched anxiously as his friend’s life hung in the balance
“Are you okay Private?” said Sergeant Ermey as he joined him at the window and Barnes snapped to attention “At ease”
“I’m fine sir”
“Rogers is a fighter” stated the Sergeant “And this is one of the finest medical facilities in the country”
“Sir yes sir” replied Jackson.
The Sergeant patted the Private on the shoulder “You’re in line for a medal for your bravery today Barnes”
“I’ll take his life over a medal if it’s all the same sir”
“Best I can do Specialist Barnes” Ermey threw the newly promoted soldier a salute
“Thank you sir”
“Back on deck at oh nine hundred regardless”
“Sir yes sir”

Dr Nathaniel Essex sat his microscope peering intently into it, making more notes. A sharp ping caught his ear and he casually reached over to a small remote control and used it to open a huge video wall of monitors. Slowly he pried himself away from his research
On each of the screens were hospital emergency rooms from across the globe. He kept tabs on them to see if anything new or exciting ever got brought in. He saw an Iron Soldier lying on a table being operated on in a Pennsylvania. He pressed a button on the remote and his voice came through the robo-nurse
“What is the prognosis Doctor...?”
“Hemming sir” the doctor was taken aback, he’d heard that Dr Essex watches procedures but this was the first time in his twelve years that it had ever happened to him ‘Severe neck trauma...”
“Hmmm waste of time spending blood on him” said the robo-nurse dismissively “Cryo-bag him and sent him to Maryland for procedures”
“Yes sir” the doctor took off his gloves and stopped working on Rogers
Jackson Barnes stood up, unsure on what he was seeing
“Hey! The blip still show’s he’s alive! Hey!” Jackson pounded the glass “You can’t just let him die? What are you doing?”
Dr Hemming could only partially hear the soldier on the other side of the thick plexi-glass but he could see the man’s pain. He simply shrugged and drew the curtain closed blocking Jackson’s view
“Hey! What are doing? HEY! I’m talking to you!”

Nicholas slowly came to in a white room. He was upright, strapped to a gurney. Three different drips fed into his arms
“Hello?” he coughed croakily
“Dr Essex the patient is awake” came a robotic voice
Nicholas tried to focus and spotted a robo-nurse wheeling towards him along with hovering medi-bot in tow
“Hello Corporal Rogers” said the robo-nurse “My name is Dr Essex”
“Hey” Nicholas looked at the faceless robot quizzically
“I have injected you with a series of serums to see the effects of the Mutant Growth Hormone extract I’ve been working on's reaction with normal human biology”
“Wha?”
“Please save all questions until the end. Also I will inject Compound X07 into you also to see if the MGH and X07 will produce a harmonious result”
‘And the third one?”
“A simple saline drip” the robo-nurse ran a scalpel across Nicholas’ chest drawing blood “Please save all questions til the end. If this is all successful I shall get you to inhale some Terrigen Mist and then I’ll clone you. Now do you have any questions?”
“Am I dead?
“No, but you may wish that you were”
“Why?”
“I am trying to make the human race better”
“No why me?”
“No reason, you just happened to be injured and this was my next experiment. You’re not special soldier, you’re just meat. Medi-bot you may proceed with part two”
Nicholas screamed as the fluids got pumped into his body and the Medi-bot recorded all the data, sending it back to Essex’s holo-pad
