Why Would This Alien Come to Earth?
- seeking pleasure. Maybe aliens find big budget action films entertaining for example. Or maybe to go camping, since maybe the alien planet has been destroyed to climate change or pollution, or was never that pretty to begin with. (or maybe Earth just happens to a beautiful planet even by intergalactic standards)
- to abduct people or genetically alter them
- to influence the course of events (e.g. deactivating nuclear warheads, preventing wars, or maybe even creating conflicts for some purpose)
- to telepathically insert ideas to future inventors, leaders, etc to accelerate human advancement
- to telepathically insert ideas to performers, writers, musicians
- to do something with some preservationist purpose, such as periodically downloading the internet as a historical record of our civilization
- to broadcast more sex hormone rays across the planet or to perform maintenance on the existing sex hormone ray producing alien installments already based around the planet.
@lorbo: 1) You have come in search of the mythical element known as Ice. Your world being water based never gets cold enough to freeze. Theologians & philosophers talk of this ice. Her mission is to bring ice back home which sounds simple but...
2) Catching primitive wave transmissions from the Milky Way she is sent to investigate the pleasure code, pornographic images that have beamed into their planet due to solar flares. This pleasure code has overstimulated the population leading to social unrest. She has come to turn it off, or succumb to it similar to @ZEELLO said:

3) Completely wrong planet by case of mistaken identity. Aiming for Proxima Centauri the ship lands on Earth, the data nearly matches so she assumes she's in the right place. She is amazed by the sophistication of this alien world, as all reports led her panet to beleive it was, well how we view Mars. At the end of the day all her reports, and 'discoveries' are stuff her planet already knows about Earth and doesn't care
Interesting ideas.....I hadn't thought of those. I may incorporate them in my fiction. Originally I intended to use the alien as a contract worker who pretty much does anything her employers want. Although officially she is a spy. A plot twist happens when she is recruited to make a certain human's life a living hell, but at the same time is recruited to hire her to work off world; by two different employers. She does not even realize she is hurting/helping the same person until she meets them, to her shock. What makes it worse is one of her employers knows all of this, and is playing a game.
Naturally she won't tell either employer of the other, as she doesn't want to get fired by either. On top of that she is juggling her spy job, which has absolutely nothing to do with Earth.
