It was at that moment I knew I had to escape the man I had entrusted my life to was as crazy as the rest of them. I had seen things like this before mostly from Veterans returning from war it has been around for years recently they called it the Golf War Syndrome. Troops trained to fight and kill where brought back and expected to reintegrate into a normal life. But it was hard when you had smelt the flesh burning of your friends. Or watching a bullet blow out the skull of the man next to you it changed who you were or what you wanted to be it stripped a man dry of his dreams and the more you see the more you become less human. You stop seeing people around you as friends and family you weigh them up they become your next target. You never get close to anyone again cause you realize in the back of your head that they are going to die and everything about Complex screamed it I was surprised I had not seen it before now it was mixed into his genes and when he finally lost it his memory seemed to disappear cases like this had came across my desk every week. A man killed his Family in a matter of moments as he came back to he could not remember a thing of how it happened not many people believed him and the government where hardly going to step forward and put up their hands saying some of the meds we gave our boys mat have massive side effects even if just effects one out of two hundred I mean what’s one man in the eyes of such a powerful Government.
That’s the type of thinking that got me here in the first place, Before Cyndrome I was known to my friends as William Anderson and my work was well lets say very under the table. So one day when I thought I would speak out I was made silent. Silent in the way that no one on gods earth would believe a goddamn word I ever said again. If they killed me I would have become more then just a man sprouting words. I would have become a spear head an almighty banner for justice in a world with out it. But instead they made me insane making anyone who agreed with me either run out of fear or turn their heads to hide from the embarrassment of backing a mad man. Now time has moved on and my calling has been answered but we are not at that part of the story yet. I remember this hall as we ran down it guards in tow. One guard in particular always stuck in my head Smithy oh how he loved to give a good beating now and again just to remind us who had the power in hell. A bully moving up from high school straight into law enforcement how the old stories never change every town has a guy like this.
“What happened” I did not know what to say to him as we ran smithy had his club out and was catching up God I hated taken a beating of that prick I could nail his ass to the wall but how much trouble is it worth. “You lost it you f@cking lost it” I turned to our cell and realized we had no where to go as I stared at the blue uniforms that now stood at either end of the corridor. Taking a deep breathe I stopped and looked at complex he just looked back at me “Sorry I don’t know what happened” it was smith I heard first “You two retards have had this coming. alooong time coming” He hit his nightstick in his hand as he closed in the gap between us no other guards moved. It was like a nature program the king lion gets the first bite. “I’m so sorry” C0mplex was looking at the blood on his hands I could feel his body shaking as he rocked back and forth slipping down to his knees “Oh you will be” Smithy said lifting the club above his head as he brought it down I don’t know why or where it came from, Maybe I had had enough of this, My hand shot out and caught the stick as it thundered down. I stood above c0mplex holding onto Smithy’s stick and the look on that pricks face was priceless “Why don’t you sh@t the &"^! up smithy” I span my body round keeping a grip on the club and brought my balled fist up into his ear. No one but him would have heard the pop of his ear drum he fell to the ground screaming in pain as the blood poured out his ear.
Turning to the other guards I smiled maybe I was insane. But I was more insane for letting these tools walk all over me for years big boys with big sticks, They had no idea what it was like to be a man to watch death first hand “Bring it on you f@cking &£^" suckers” I screamed as I charged into them. I thought I sounded so cool well until I got smacked by twenty clubs but I smiled as I hit the ground and watched how they all went for me leaving C0mplex alone I smiled as their boots smashed into my head. Best damn feeling in my life was getting my ass kicked by a bunch of pricks it made me laugh out loud as I blacked out.
Medical Wing Arkham Present Day
As he pushed open the doors the smell of disinfectant slid into his mind. Row after row of white beds lined him on both sides each with a small table and restraints. A smile broke on his face as he looked at the grimy equipment that the doctors had used. Along time ago now he thought to himself as he pulled back a curtain fresh blood stains sat on the edge of a pillow head nothing had changed not in this place new faces maybe but blood and sweat where the only things that kept this place ticking around. He came across the bed he remembered most top right near the window, He sat on the edge looking out the window and wondered if they had placed him on a bed with no window would this story have ended up differently would he still be in here and would C0mplex still. Hanging his head he let his mind take him away back to the day he entered the ward.
Flash back Arkham Medical wing A doctor and Nurse are seeing to some patients when the doors swing open
“Bloody hell what happened to him” Cyndrome was being dragged feet first a long blood line showed the path they had taken “Look Doc he took out a few of us as well they are on their way to Gotham Central. But these Pr!cks have to wait for transfers and some more men to cover em while they get seen to” The Doctor was old and had seen it all. They called him Boney. His fingers where long and like a skeleton and his touch was frozen. He was not a tall man and always walked with a hunch but most of all he was respectful to the inmates know damn well that at any moment a riot could break out it made sense to make friends with the people on the inside. “Take him to the bed at the top on the right come on now.” I could feel his eyes looking me up and down “Well how many times did you hit him after he passed out “. The two guards looked at each other and went to bring in C0mplex “And carry the next one don’t drag him like meat”. It was his eyes I remember seeing first past all the bruising on my face and the blood in my eyes. His two green peepers staring at me he waved to a nurse and began removing my clothes. I remember hearing a pan rattle as the nurse dropped it and the Doctor gasped as he saw the scars over my body “Well I never” the nurse sounded beautiful mind you a fat chick stuffing her face with Kfc dipped in lard looks beautiful after a few years in here. “what is it Doctor” I caught a glance of his face he knew what the scars meant “He is a solider. Looks as if he slipped up and got himself caught” he ran a hand down my chest “You can tell a lot from a mans scars did you know that” I hate doctors when they speak like that like they know it all and worst of all he was English maybe down London way just to make it all sound more arrogant “No Doctor I just think they look disgusting.” God what a girl.
“well take this scar” Oh he was ignoring her I like Boney does not take fools lightly god old man. He drew his finger across the base of my feet lucky my body was numb or I would have giggled. I wondered if they knew I was still awake as they spoke or if they thought I had passed out dew to the pain. Mind you know one would be able to tell my eyes where swollen shut by this time. “his feet have been hit by Bamboo shoots. It is a torture method used in the east the cut across his chest was made with a fine knife to prolong the pain. He also has a few burn marks. But I would not be surprised if we rolled him over how many whip marks would be on his back. This man was a strong man”. “How do you know Doctor” I could almost feel boney roll his eyes “Cause they would not have done this to him if he had talked. It makes me wonder what a man like this is doing in this place. Tend to his wounds while I look over the next patient no doubt the guards have beat him to a bloody pulp as well.” I listened for his feet to move away and I lay their as she read over my medical history “6ft 3 , Blue eyes, black hair Oh I have to change that you have gone grey.” I could not bare it anymore I swear if they had her at the POW camp I would have broke in the first week I spoke past the bloody lips and the broken teeth “Look Luv you going to help me here or give me a service” she froze I could tell from her voice that I had scared her. “DOCTOR HE IS A WAKE.” Boney must have given her that look that he always does when he is annoyed “I know he has been awake since he came in see to him as I said tend to his wounds” Boney you sly old dog you.
They say being unconscious is a boring experience....they have never been in my head I suppose. its a horrible an frightening time, not because of what I see. Its frightening cause i enjoy what I see. the images an the visions. They take me back to when I was a fighter, to when I snapped they say. The doctors an their needles, the very needles I drive deep into their skulls as the blood an brain matter flows from their ears onto my hands. The smell of the warm blood trickling down my hands as I jump onto another doctor my fingers pushing hard into his eye sockets an I hear two pops followed by a gutteral scream. It was almost intoxicating their screams, then the intoxicating dream faded an I was in another doctors office.
"Sir...Sir can you hear me. Can you open your eyes?" the interns voice was almost screeching and I reply "Do you need to scream? I may look dead you daft prick but im not." My other side still in control a nurse slams a morphine into my arm "Oi you tart, that freaking hurt....ooooo." My mind is again mine and I realize where I am, my eyes dont open all the way courtesy of a black boot. I hear Cyndromes voice an look around for him all I see are his boots sticking out from behind a curtain. My nerves go at ease, I had forgotten If I he made it or not. The only person in this damn place who gave a damn, the intern walks away from my bed and I hear him mumble "Are these two the ones who took out the dent boys, making one a puddle?" The other nods saying "Yeah the one over their with Doctor Boney wasnt the one to do it. Was the scrawy wirer y one over their. Slammed the poor fools head into the wall so hard you could hear dents skull pop all the way down the hall." I hated it when people talked, got to me quicker than anything else. The bastards were lucky I was strapped in an thats me talking not the other. I do hate so when they talk.
Soon a doctor came to my side feeling me, his hands walking up my arms an legs checking for whats damaged. Then to my chest an finding nothing wrong their he pats it "Looks like your the one who took the least damage huh boy?" I nod at him an he continues "They say that your one of THEM the ones I need to watch out for. One that could turn me into a puddle of blood in a manner of seconds." As he talks he unties my bonds "But I dont see that happening since...well I am not going to be pissing you off anytime soon. Now this will help with the over all pain a cocktail of pain killers. Your wounds may be less than your friends but they are more serious now just close our eyes an let them take affect." Yeah that wasnt going to be a problem. I was out cold in seconds after he gave me the cocktail
The well dressed man walked out of the hospital wing his mind racing with that day the day he decied to get out of this place and to take his friend with him.
Cyndrome lay staring at the roof as the blood began to dry. She was a dopey cow but was good at her job as she went round his body cleaning and stitching the cuts from the night sticks. They had got to C0mplex something he had hopped would not happen. C0mplex was a funny one always been there for cyndrome as soon as he came into Arkham and he had used that. When you go to prison you see all these guys going alone wanting to do easy time and they are as hard as nails. In here if your by yourself, your f@cked no matter how hard you are. But if there is two of you and your both as hard as nails then these fu@kers tend to leave you be unless you look for sh!t and now we where in it up to our eyes. I had popped a guards ear drum and now had countless assaults charges on guards. C0mplex had beaten on a few inmates but then smacked the cr@p out of some guards. Our very sh!t lives just got a whole lot sh!tter. So that was it there was only one thing left to do and that was get outta here and fast.
The time was right the guards where tending to there wounds and injured the nurse would be a good hostage and then he smiled. “Nurse go get the doctor.” She looked for a moment and then moved away from the bed and whispered into the doctors ear. “Hmmmm okay you tend to his friend and I will tend to him.” As he came over he looked over the wounds. “You seem fine young man now what do you wish to talk to me about.” Licking his lips he knew he was taking a big chance here. “Doc your not like the rest and you know im not so Im breaking out” the doctor closed the curtain rail so the nurse could not see what was going on they were speaking in a low voice so it would not carry to her ears. “and why on earth would I help you” the room was silent for a moment and then he spoke “Look at me doctor the scars the cuts and listen.” Cyndrome sat up much to the doctors surprise. The nurse had undone his restrains thinking he was to weak to move “If you don’t help then I will be forced to do this in away that may result in a few deaths now im a good man. I don’t want that and I don’t want to hurt you but I cant stay here.”
The Doctor looked at him “You leave me no choice” he winked. “Nurse can you get me the sedative from the supply room take your time about it.” The doctor moved in close to help him of the bed “What do you have planned” finding his Barings Cnydrome looked close into the doctors old eyes “thanks doc . I need to lab coats and away onto the transport to Gotham central and Doc Im taking my firend with ” The doctor looked worried. “Then he is your way onto the transport.” Turning the doctor moved his mind running with the idea already. Cyndrome moved over to C0mplex’s bed “We are getting outta here” undoing the restraints he told him the plan.
