Open on an unmarked white van, parked in a grassy field at sunset.

Cut to inside the van, lit by a red lightbulb, as four men in all black put on gloves and ski masks. There are several bizarrely shaped pulp sci-fi guns crammed in around them.

View from the bottom of a grassy dune as the masked men stand at the top of it, each holding some of the strange guns. The sky behind them is mostly dark.

The men gather around the front door of the house. One of them splashes a tube of acid onto the handle, which already begins melting.

Burglar 1 in a hallway, with two doors, one open and one closed. He approaches the open door, gun raised. There’s a railing in the foreground, leading to the stairs & foyer.

Burglar 1 stands in a master bedroom, looking at an empty, unmade king size bed. The room is lit by the sun setting outside of two large windows.

Burglar 1’s eyes widen in sudden surprise.

Burglar 1 turns to face a closed bathroom door inside the bedroom. There’s light coming out through the cracks.

Burglar 1 kicks the bathroom door open.

Burglar 1 waves his gun around the bathroom, but it’s empty.

Burglar 1 turns and sees there’s a second door in the bathroom. Presumably the same closed door he passed in the hallway.

Burglar 1 looks up at the bathroom mirror. One can just make out a male silhouette behind him.

A hairy, shirtless arm punches Burglar 1 in the back of the head, smashing his face into the mirror.

Fury, now cleanshaven and in a black turtleneck and slacks, stands in some cramped personal quarters, with little more than a bed and a mirror. He’s clearly frustrated.
FURY: What’d the boys put together?

Nick Fury Jr. stands across from his father, holding a knock-off iPad. He’s looking at that pad instead of Fury.
FURY JR.: Four assailants, all known Hydra agents at one time or another, all previously presumed deceased.
FURY JR.: They were all carrying non-lethal weapons, outdated HYDRA designs. Stun beam, automatic dart gun, temporal displacer…
FURY JR.: …shrink ray?

Fury glares at Fury Jr., who still avoids eye contact.
FURY: One of ‘em used some new suicide tactic. Cleaner than cyanide. Faster.
FURY JR.: Actually, it says here he died of complications from a prior heart condition, most likely due to stress.
FURY: You’re saying I scared him to death?
11.2
Fury Jr. finally looks up.
FURY JR.: I’m saying these were idiots.
FURY JR.: In decent shape for their ages, but not good enough for a job like this.

Fury rubs his temples with his thumb and index finger.
FURY JR.: The working assumption is they went in hiding years ago. Took a few pretty guns with ‘em. Now for whatever reason they wanted back in, and figured you’d make an easy bargaining chip.

Fury Jr. glares back at Fury.
FURY: So either HYDRA’s had that location…
FURY: …Or there’s a third party sending out tips.
FURY JR.: Any way they’d know you were in a German safehouse?
FURY JR.: No, strike that, any reason WE should know why you were in a German safehouse?

Fury looks at the ceiling.
FURY: Hell, ‘smore of a vacation house. Started fixing up the place back in the Berlin Wall days.
FURY: Never got to see the islands my first time over there. Always seemed like a nice place if the day ever came.

Fury Jr. looks skeptical.
FURY JR.: That’s what you’re doing now? Retiring on the beach?

Fury grins slightly.
FURY: Had to do it somewhere.
FURY: How ‘bout you? You sign up to handle these debriefings?

Fury Jr. turns and heads for the door.
FURY JR.: Look, Hill said you’d only talk to me or Diretor Johnson.
FURY JR: She’s coordinating damage control on the Goldbug massacre, I needed to log a few non-combat hours, and here we are.

Fury Jr. starts out the door, but Fury’s left hand pats him on the left rib, just under his holster. There are two guards visible outside the door.
FURY JR.: Catch more of those retirement Zs. We’ll tell you if--
FURY: Wait.
FURY: You sure this is where you wanna be?

Fury Jr.’s face, curious.
FURY JR.: …What?

Fury stands alone in the room, switching the lights off with his right hand. His left hand is out of view.

Fury sits upright on his bed, clearly exhausted. His face is obscured by the darkness.

Back to Juniper in Fury’s room.
JUNIPER: Most of the deities on Hell’s side are just willing to sit back and take any souls they get in the crossfire. The guys with Heaven don’t like it, but they don’t have a lot of power over whatever turned the universe this way.
JUNIPER: I’m working with a group of humans up there, trying to do our part where they can’t.

Fury’s face, still in shadows.
JUNIPER: They send sleeper agents here, we send a few of our own, and to the locals it all just looks like the super-person-shenanigans of the week.
FURY: Get to the part where I give a damn.

Juniper sighing.
JUNIPER: …Look.
JUNIPER: We’ve been putting out small fires for a while now, and the budget involved…
FURY: Saint Peter takin’ cash these days?
JUNIPER: The point is, we’ve let a lot get by us. Like those HYDRA agents that attacked you.

Back to Fury, but his gun is lowered. He’s rubbing his forehead.
FURY: That-- Ngggh…
FURY: That was what exactly?

Juniper.
JUNIPER: They were resurrected to try and keep you alive for as long as possible while forcing S.H.I.E.L.D. to focus on HYDRA.
JUNIPER: Because someone in Limbo is about to try something big, and they predicted what I’m about to ask you to do.

JUNIPER: I’m going to have to ask you to be our man in Hell.
JUNIPER: I’m going to have to ask you to kill yourself.

Fury, pointing his gun at Juniper again, stands up, walking towards the light switch.
FURY: HA!
FURY: So that’s what this is all about?
FURY: You boys couldn’t pop an old man, so you had to dress up like his old pal and talk ‘im into pulling the trigger for you?
18.3
Fury stands next to the door & light switch.
JUNIPER: Sarge, I know it’s a hard pill to swallow…
FURY: Nah, just your everyday Dr. Strange bullls**t.

Fury’s hand switching the lights on.
JUNIPER: …BUT, I also know you don’t have much to lose here.

JUNIPER: I know you went to that beach house to end it all in peace while you still could.

Fury’s face. It’s suddenly far more wrinkled.
JUNIPER: I know your Infinity Formula runs out today.

Fury looks into the mirror. In the reflection, Juniper is standing behind him.
JUNIPER: Either you spend your last hours with a bedpan and a catheter, while this whole boat watches you shrivel up.
JUNIPER: Or the mission keeps on going.

Fury sits on the bed again.
FURY: And if this is all just me going senile?

JUNIPER: Well.
JUNIPER: Then I guess this as close as you could get to ending it on your terms.

Same shot, but Fury examines the magazine on the gun.

The door outside of Fury’s room. The guards both turn towards it in shock.
