Sentry #2: the Void in All of Us
NOTE: The Sentry in this series is slightly younger than his previous appearances; his Rebirth in Issue 1 has returned him to a slimmer physique and shorter haircut, as seen in his first series, and has de-aged him to around 28 years old.
Page 13:
Panel 1/
Close up of Emma Frost’s face as she is seated in Cerebra. Her eyes are closed, and she has a strained expression on her face.
Panel 2/
Close up of Emma again, only she has a shocked expression of her face. Her eyes are wide open.
EMMA: Oh, for the love of Chanel, no.
Panel 3/
Back view of Cyclops, he is staring at a large computer screen, in the standard right-hand on chin, left arm crossed underneath right, “thinking pose”.
Panel 4/
Emma barges in, mid-stride, with a concerned look on her face. Don’t overdo it though, as Emma should never look too worried.
EMMA: Darling, we have an issue. I was scanning for any new mutants with Cerebra when I encountered a huge psychic presence. And before you ask, no, it’s not the bloody redhead.-
SCOTT: Emma, please. You know I love you.-
EMMA: -Yes, I’m beautiful and wonderful and the only woman for you blah, blah, blah. Focus, love.
Panel 5/
Side view of Emma leaning closely towards Scott.
EMMA: The Sentry is alive. Or something that feels like him.
Panel 6/
Close up on Scott. He has a stern look.
SCOTT: I have to make a call.
Page 14:
Panel 1/
Scott, Betsy and Emma are in the conference room. Betsy is leaning against a table. Scott has his arms crossed, and Emma is looking at her shoes.
SCOTT: So that’s the situation. According to Richards, who’s at Avengers Tower, the Sentry is back and he’s not evil anymore. Betsy, I’m going to need you to check that out. You’ve got his co-ordinates. Scan his mind, whatever; just find out if the Void is still there.
Panel 2/
Same frame, only Emma is looking up toward Scott.
BETSY: Alright, should I take a team with me in case things get ugly?
SCOTT: No, go alone. Just get the information and get out. If the Void does still exist, the last thing you want is to get on its bad side.
Panel 3/
Side shot of Scott approaching Betsy.
SCOTT: And one more thing. If it turns out the Sentry is free of the Void and a hero again, offer him a home in Utopia. We are a place for outcasts after all. Being a Mutant or not shouldn’t change that.
Panel 4/
Same image as earlier, only Emma is once again looking at her shoes.
BETSY: Very well. I’ll be on the next flight out of Utopia. And Scott, if I get the chance, and he’s still evil, I’m lobotomising him.
EMMA: And Betsy, darling, while you’re there, could you pick me up the new Satin Wedge Sandals from Louis Vuitton, and the Spring Collection bag from Dolce and Gabbana; if you’ve any taste, you’ll know which one.
Panel 5/
Close up on Psylocke’s face, she has an “are you kidding?” expression.
SCOTT (OP): Good luck, Betsy.
Panel 6/
Front shot of Psylocke leaving the room, with Scott and Emma in the background.
EMMA: For whatever reason, companies refuse to ship to made up nations for genetic outcasts.
SCOTT: I thought Gabbana was a kind of meat.
Panel 7/
Emma is face-palming, and Psylocke is no longer visible in the shot.
EMMA: You are so lucky you’re pretty.
Page 15:
Panel 1/
Front- shot of Robert sitting in a small, cramped apartment. He is sitting atop his bed, focusing intently. He is bent over slightly, and has his fingers on his temples. He is in the same clothing as earlier.
SFX: Boom
Panel 2/
Close up on Robert; his eyes are open, he looks intense.
Panel 3/
The Wrecker is lifting a police car above his head, trademark crowbar in hand. Several police are firing at him, as the bullets harmlessly bounce off.
WRECKER: Come on, give me something worth hitting!
Panel 4/
A blurred Robert is standing in front of the Wrecker, the Wrecker looming over him.
ROBERT: OK, hit me.
WRECKER: And who are you little man?
Panel 5/
The Wrecker slams the car down on top of Robert. There is an appropriately sized explosion.
WRECKER: Never mind. Gone now.
Panel 6/
Wrecker walks away in the background, as we see Robert’s shoes, once again, in the foreground.
ROBERT: So, that was fun. What else you got?
Page 16:
Panel 1/
The Wrecker turns around and swings his crowbar at Robert. Robert catches it with one hand.
WRECKER: Who the $%@& are you!?
Panel 2/
Robert pulls the Wrecker forward with his crowbar, smashing his face against Robert’s open palm.
Panel 3/
Robert, still holding the Wrecker’s face, then slams him into the ground, ala choke-slam.
ROBERT: Stay down.
Panel 4/
Behind-shot of Psylocke; she is crouching on a building. Her head is emitting that purple butterfly that shows up when she uses her telepathy.
PSYLOCKE: OK, goldilocks, let’s have a peek around inside that juicy brain of yours.
Panel 5/
Close up of Robert, who’s looking toward Psylocke.
ROBERT: What the Hell?
Page 17:
Panel 1/
The Wrecker smashes a distracted Robert with his Crowbar. Robert is knocked backwards, but still keeps his footing.
WRECKER: FALL, YOU @#$%$#@!
Panel 2/
The Wrecker swings his Crowbar again, only it stops as it collides with Robert’s face.
ROBERT: Sorry about that. I was distracted by someone using the focused totality of their psychic powers.
Panel 3/
Robert grabs the Wrecker by the throat.
ROBERT: It won’t happen again.
Panel 4/
Blurred shot of Robert flying directly up, still holding the Wrecker by the throat.
Panel 5/
Robert is holding the Wrecker in the air, dangling him in the clouds.
ROBERT: Now the old me would have torn you in half. The new me, well he’s a bit more mellow.
Panel 6/
Blurred image of Robert flying directly downward.
Page 18:
Panel 1/ SPLASH
Splash page of Robert zooming down and slamming the Wrecker into the ground.
ROBERT: The new me will just knock you the Hell out.
Page 19:
Panel 1/
Back shot of Psylocke.
BETSY: Heh, not bad.
Panel 2/
Psylocke turns around only to bump into Robert, with a gleeful expression on his face.
ROBERT: So what’s up, Miss Braddock? Get what you need?
Panel 3/
Psylocke looks directly at him, matching his gaze; she is not intimidated.
BETSY: No actually, you blocked me before I could.
ROBERT: Oh, I’m sorry about that. What’s on your mind? Or would you rather me read it?
Panel 4/
Psylocke has raised her arms into a defensive position, though she’s still quite near Robert.
BETSY: Scott wanted me to read your mind, see if there were any traces of the Void. Will you let me? Or would you rather me read it...roughly?
Panel 5/
Close up on Robert; he still has a calm expression, though not as smiley as he was earlier.
ROBERT: Go nuts. Well not literally nuts, been there, done that; not fun. But read away.
Panel 6/
Psylocke leans in and touches his temples.
Page 20/
Panel 1/ SPLASH
Betsy and Robert are standing amongst a flood of Robert’s memories. His wife’s death, the Void attacking the heroes, all of the most traumatic events, and flashes to his recent conquest and expelling of the Void.
Page 21/
Side on view of Betsy and Robert, he is looking at her eyes. She has a small tear forming down her visible cheek.
ROBERT: Elizabeth...
BETSY: Yes...
Panel 2/
Robert’s eye shift down as it’s clear he’s staring at Psylocke’s figure.
ROBERT: Aren’t you cold?
Panel 3/
Betsy steps back and wipes her eye with her arm.
BETSY: I’m fine. And so are you. No Void left.
Panel 4/
Side on view as Robert takes her hand; she has a sceptical look on her face.
ROBERT: Thanks for not trying to kill me. I know you would’ve if you felt there was any reason to. But if anyone knows the trouble of sharing a body, it’s you.
Panel 5/
Betsy nods in gentle agreement. She has a half-smile.
BETSY: You’re certainly right about that. By the way, Scott wanted me to extend an invitation to you to live on Utopia. Some mutants might be wary of you, but once I give them my diagnosis, they ought to shut it.
Panel 6/
Side on view of Robert and Betsy looking at each other, he is still holding her hand.
ROBERT: That’s very kind of you and Mr Summers. But I’m afraid I can’t. There are some wounds that are a little too raw. I’m sorry.
BETSY: That’s fine. I’ll be on my way then.
Page 22:
Panel 1/
Betsy is turning away, but Robert is still holding her hand.
ROBERT: One more thing, and I’m afraid it’s an odd request, but it would mean a lot to me if you’d acquiesce. Elizabeth Braddock, do you waltz?
BETSY: I’m a psychic ninja, Robert, there’s not a dance on this Earth I can’t do.
Panel 2/
Robert bows before Betsy, still holding her hand.
ROBERT: Then would you care to dance with me? It’s been such a long time since I’ve been able. Lindy...she was...scared...in the end.
Panel 3/
Close up on a smugly smiling Betsy.
BETSY: Very well. One dance.
Panel 4/
Close up on an elated Robert.
ROBERT: Terrific. One last question though; how do you feel about heights?
Page 23:
Panel 1/ SPLASH
Robert is in waltz position with Betsy high above the skyline. They are both flying as Robert is supporting her. There is a yellow aura surrounding them both, emanating from Robert. This explains why Betsy can breathe in altitudes that high; Robert is cleansing and strengthening the air around them.
Page 24
Panel 1/
Diagonal below view of Robert and Betsy dancing.
Panel 2/
Shadow Reed’s eyeballs are extended out his head.
REED: Why, hello there.
