Welcome to another Mashed Up Origins! This is an ongoing experiment of mine that I was going to make into a group, but with the chaos that a group can bring I decided to go it alone. It’s shortish, sweet and basically a quick origin, potentially an ongoing just something to make you go (hopefully) “I’d like to see that!” This links in partially with my M.U.O Thor. Supreme Court, Trial Part 80
“All rise!” The courtroom stood as Judge Jennifer Walters took her seat in the packed courtroom. “Be seated”
Judge Walters looked around her court then turned to the jury “Have you reached an agreement?”
“We have your honour”
“Well…?”
“In the indictment of the State Vs Simon Williams on the charge of grand larceny, we find the defendant…guilty! On the charge of fraud; we find the defendant also guilty!”
Simon Williams hung his head in shame. His lawyer, Foggy Nelson, shook his head in disgust as the gallery erupted in murmurs. Judge Walters banged her gavel, restoring order to the room. “Simon Williams,” she looked down at the shamed man “You are one of the worst kind of criminals. You stole from your own company and put hundreds of people out of work and stole their life savings. I sentence you to seven years in prison!” Foggy Nelson began to interject but the judge dismissed him with a smack of the gavel. “I also order Williams Innovations to undergo liquidation to pay back the monies. Bailiffs place Mr Williams in custody!”
“We’ll appeal” said Foggy as two officers began handcuffing his client.
“Don’t” said Simon “I did the wrong thing and got caught”
“We’re ruined!” yelled Eric Williams trying to fight his way through the crowd to his brother “You stupid, greedy bastard!”
“I’m sorry” wept Simon as the hauled him away.
Seagate Maximum Security Prison, off the coast of Georgia
Simon Williams sat in the yard watching the other inmates. He’d been transferred here a year ago, supposedly for his own protection, but that turned out to be a joke. Senior guard Billy Bob Rackham had targeted him the moment he stepped off the bus, because his brother lost everything when Williams Innovations folded. So everyday Simon had to watch his back; from disgruntled inmates, prison predators and from Rackham, who liked nothing better than to get in a few cheap shots with his baton to remind Simon of “his debt to society”.
When Dr. Noah Burstein scouted the prison looking for inmates who wanted to commute parts of their sentence for participating in an experimental cell regeneration study, Simon jumped at the chance. Anything to get him out of this hell hole quicker.
“Are you comfortable?” asked Dr Burstein as he did the final checks on the equipment as Simon floated in a tube of organic chemical compound.
Simon shrugged “I guess so”
“This may sti…” Dr Burstein’s words were cut short by a crack as Rackham’s baton knocked him unconscious. Simon panicked and tried to get out of the tube but it was too slippery.
Rackham smiled and turned up all the dials “You should’ve got the chair for what you did Williams. Maybe you’ll feel some of the pain and misery you’ve caused” Rackham threw the switch and Williams screamed like an animal as electricity hit the water.
Simon came to, lying handcuffed on the cold stone floor. Dr Burstein stood over him, rubbing his aching head “How do you feel Simon?”
“Tired…sore” muttered Simon as he raised his arms, the handcuffs snapping like they were made of paper.
“Remarkable! The treatment has accelerated past its intended limits” said the doctor
“Where’s Rackham?”
“Right here thief” Simon turned and looked at the guard pointing a shotgun at him
“You tried to kill me”
“Don’t move Williams!” warned Rackham, pumping the weapon. “Or I’ll do more than try”
“I’ve had just about enough of this” Simon sat up. Rackham unloaded a shot at point blank which did nothing more than make a loud noise, the pellets flattening against his bare chest. “I know I did wrong! I’m doing my time, but you, YOU, you’re like a sick kid pulling wings off a fly” Simon grabbed the shotgun and crushed it into a ball with his hands “How does it feel to be powerless? Huh?”
Simon grabbed the shocked guard by the collar and tossed him into the wall with a sick thud. He turned to the doctor, who had his hands up in submission.
“I’m not going to hurt you doc” said Simon “But you better start making up a good story, because I’m outta here!”
Hero For Hire, Harlem, Six months later
A bald Simon Williams, stood in the doorway of his business, dressed like a cross between a professional wrestler and a disco king. He glanced over at the large board where he’d written the figure $28,876,480.23; all the money HE owed from his thievery.
“You Lucas Cage?” asked a beautiful black woman as she got off a motorcycle.
“Am now” he said with a smile
