Mashed Up Origin: Nova

Welcome to yet another Mashed Up Origins! This is an ongoing experiment of mine. It’s shortish, sweet and basically a quick origin, potentially an ongoing just something to make you go (hopefully) “I’d like to see that!” Please have a read, drop a comment, tell me what you liked/didn't like etc, have a read of the other Mashed Up Origins (see links below) Rated MA to be sure. Mid-Town High School

Peter Parker sat in class trying to take notes, despite the constant tap-tap-tap of Flash Thompson’s foot on the back of his chair. Peter turned, his face full of frustration.

“Would you stop?!” Peter hissed through his teeth.

Flash pulled the back of Peter’s chair causing him to fall onto the floor with a crash. The whole room turned and laughed.

“When you’ve finished making a scene Mr Parker” said Mr Lee.

Peter stood up, fists clenched in rage. Flash smiled a nasty smile at him.

“Are you blind?!” roared Peter at Mr Lee “Seriously, do you think I did this ON PURPOSE?”

Mr Lee pointed to the door “Out!”

The bell rang and Flash came charging out of class looking for his favourite punching bag. He spotted Peter angrily loading books into his bag from his locker. Flash built up speed and shoulder barged the unsuspecting Parker into his locker with a thud.

“TOUCHDOWN!” roared Flash; arms raised in triumph “Take that puny Parker!”

Peter looked up at his tormentor, his rage bubbling beneath the surface. Slowly he stood.

“Why can’t you just leave me alone?”

Flash grabbed Peter by the throat and slammed him into the locker “Why can’t you just leave me alone? Boo hoo”

“What’s big, dumb and blocking the hallway?” Flash turned to see a young man wearing denim.

“It’s you!” The young man smashed Flash in the mouth, knocking him out cold. He helped Peter to his feet. “You okay?”

“Y-yeah” stammered Peter “Thanks”

“Us nerds gotta stick together” he smiled and held out his hand “Richard Rider”

“Peter Parker”

“WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE?” yelled Mr Lee as he entered the scene.

Peter and Richard looked at each other and in unison said “He fell”

Space, Lunar Orbit

Rhomann Dey's ship shuddered to a halt. Instruments sparked, the cabin filled with acrid electrical smoke, alerts flashed. He glanced down at the fatal wound in his side where Zorr's attack on the ship had nearly killed him...nearly. A tear began to form in his eye. To come SO close to capturing that monster for his crimes, and yet to fail and die here in the middle of...well nowhere. The killer of his family, the destroyer of his planet Xandar, had taken refuge on the blue ball below him. Rhomann shakily tapped away on the keyboard.

-SCANNING- Stated the computer. He coughed, blood hitting the keyboard. He winced as a wave of pain rippled through his body. He didn't have much time.

-CANDIDATE SELECTED-

Forest Hills, New York

Peter walked home, thinking of the day's events. He'd asserted himself, he'd made a friend, his 'nemesis' got some comeuppance and tomorrow was the science fair where the Big Three were putting on displays: Pym, Connors and Octavius. Today had been the best d...

A green beam smashed into Peter from above. He screamed. A voice drove into his mind. His body felt like it was simultaneously being peeled, twisted and burned.

"Peter Parker!" the voice echoed in his head, making his eyeballs ache "I am Rhomann Dey. The fugitive Zorr has taken refuge upon your planet. You MUST stop him! Welcome to the Nova Corps!"

Loving these. Hey, maybe when they're all done you can put them to a vote and see which one people want turned into an ongoing. Would be great to see more done with some of these.

It's interesting, but I think Flash here comes across as less of a person and more a stereotype of a Jock!Bully. I like the inclusion of the Mr Lee character. I also got the distinct impression that Peter's reaching breaking point with regards to Flash's bullying. He doesn't just feebly protest that it was Flash, he erupts. I thought that was good, but again Flash just comes across as more of a stereotype to me :/ obviously he wasn't the focus though and development of his character isn't crucial.

@darth_brendroid: Flash was merely used to be the catalyst in this piece. During Peter's early years Flash tormented him mercilessly (and was basically written as jerk then later as friend). Maybe Flash get as Mashed Up Origin :) Hmmmmm

I understand Flash's role was more as a catalyst and didn't need much development and that he did tend to be merciless in Peter's early years, but it still doesn't sit 100% with me. Maybe it's just me. *shrug*

What about a vote for a sequel? I for one still want to read beyond the end of FF MUO. Oh yeah, good story.

@tmacximas: The more of these I do, the more I think sequels are in order :) I have about five more Mash Ups in my head, writing Professor X at the moment, I might do a Mashed Up Universe...but we'll see, I do like the Fantastic Hulks too
