Marvel Genesis: Cable- Prologue

Year- 4000 A.D.

Location- United States of America.

His name was Christopher Summers. He has been through tough times lately. After all these years, he never thought he would come to this day and find out his true identity, the identity which led him to think of so many questions. Where he has come from? What’s the reason behind it? These questions kept lingering in his mind, wondering when the time that he could stop an evil, immortal mutant named Apocalypse.

Apocalypse ruled this timeline with vast resources and technology. There had been questions among the Askani, asking whether Apocalypse had found something useful for his own gain and power. But none of the information came out from the mightiest ruler himself. He also had his own agents, the Agents of Apocalypse, working under his wing, working to destroy man and mutant kind itself to the brink of destruction. There was also Stryfe, Christopher’s twin brother whom he thought he was to be. But he was wrong. He turned out to be a clone, created from Christopher Summers. Like a lab rat, who was being watched under the watchful eye of several scientists. People have thought that they were twins born on Earth, this timeline, this dark future. The future, which was supposed to be peaceful as everyone thought it would be. The future has not been set free. Until, Christopher found something that could help him and fix things in the past.

Christopher was hiding in a secret Askani base with Blaquesmith, his mentor who thought him how to control his vast mutant powers. At the age of puberty, Christopher was able to lift objects with his mind, break them with his thoughts, projected an astral form outside of his body, everything which he did the impossible. He was special just like his twin brother. He had the same abilities but there was a slight difference about him. He didn’t need to refuel his psychic energy in order to use his mutant powers. Christopher had to do it in several occasions where he was warned by Blaquesmith not to use these powers too much. Otherwise, these potential and useful powers might be gone for good. That’s the reason why Christopher had to rely on his military strategies to overcome his enemies. Whether, these enemies were human, mutant, or alien. It doesn’t even matter. He was trained as a young kid, and got recruited into the Askani Order after he succeeded several missions. The Psi-Ops program also helped him to control his mutant abilities, and being overseen by Blaquesmith. He was also a mutant, who can control every thought of another person much like the famous professor of the 21st century. Blaquesmith also has the telekinetic ability to lift any object just like Christopher’s mother.

There was a certain flaw that hit Christopher like a wave of negative force. Christopher had this disease called the Techno-Organic Virus, which infected through his veins, his blood, and nearly his entire body. It was painful at first, but then the virus slowed the pain down and he was able to get back on his feet as always. Sometimes, he wondered who did this to him, may have something up in their sleeves, but it did came in handy.

Blaquesmith came towards the slightly old man, who stood in front of the computer screen. He waited, waited to find the source of the exact timeline where he was about to go far back in time and deal with the situation at hand. This kind of situation may come with a price. But time is very short and time is not enough to waste in this once and peaceful future until it was taken over by Apocalypse. He tried ways to find the d@mn mutant, who killed everyone in his path, the famous pharaoh, who used to rule Egypt and force his slaves to build pyramids and offer them with his dangerous service. It sometimes sickens Christopher with the thought that the former name, En Sabah Nur would do such a thing.

“Chris…Chris…” Blaquesmith said, who stared at Christopher with his eyes slightly closed and his hunchback seemed to be slowing him down.

“What is it?” Christopher asked.

“Are you sure about this? There are other ways to cure the Legacy Virus.”

Legacy Virus, Christopher thought. The virus that’s been killing off humans one by one on this precious planet and caused by none other than Apocalypse. Christopher knew that Apocalypse planned this out, so that he can show the world of the plague, which was unleashed upon Earth. He tried not to think about the people, whom he knew they died at the hands of the Legacy Virus. Christopher looked back at Blaquesmith, trying to block his bad thoughts and focus on the real mission here.

“Blaquesmith, there’s no possible way that this virus could be cured. The Askani scientists have tried it so many times. You know that.”

“I know what you mean, Chris. But don’t you think this…next step…next step of time travel would bring drastic consequences to our timeline?”

“Who knows? Christopher said. “Maybe, I might affect the future for a good cause. But it’s a risk that I have to take. You understand that, right?”

Blaquesmith looked down upon him, thinking Christopher might be crazy enough to do the mission. But he was right. Blaquesmith read his thoughts at one moment. Like a second or fraction of time, which Christopher needed to focus upon refuelling his psychic energy around his body.

“Ok, Chris. I hope this works.”

“Don’t worry about it,” Christopher said with patience. Everything will be fine.”

“Have you found the exact location, which you’re looking for?”

Christopher looked at the screen, and watched a yellow signal pinpointing at some map from a different time. It turned out to be the 1940s.

“The 1940s?” Blaquesmith read Christopher’s mind. “You don’t mean…”

“That’s right. I’m about to save a famous scientist, who is about to die soon. Is the device ready?”

“Yes, I’ve managed to repair it. But it took longer than I thought.”

“Okay. Then it’s time…”

Christopher stepped towards the large device, which Blaquesmith took the time to repair it. The device was originally built by the Askani scientists a few years back. But now the device has been dismantled due to the fact that the ripple effects of the time stream could alter the future with negative results. Without thinking of that bad thought, Christopher waited for Blaquesmith to turn on the device. The hunchback mutant used his telekinetic powers to turn on the switch while he sat on his hovering, small chair. The device made a rumbling sound, and then it stopped. A few seconds later, a black doorway opened in front of the device and them. There were slight electric sparks emanating around the doorway. They looked at it like some kind of amazement, but Christopher and Blaquesmith had always done this before. The black doorway turned out to be a time window, which can only allow one person to travel backwards or forwards in time. Blaquesmith held out his hand towards Christopher’s left shoulder, sensing whether he was ready to jump back.

“Chris…” Blaquesmith paused for a moment. “Good luck.”

“Thanks,” Christopher replied in a slow tone. Without looking back at his mentor, Christopher stepped into the black void of the time window. It was darkness at first and then came a flash of white light, which reflected upon his eyes. As Christopher travelled through the time window, the memories were flowing through his mind. These were his memories when he became the man that he is right now. In a time when he was cared by his loving, foster parents, the time he was trained to become a tough soldier of the future, the time before he became Cable.

To be continued in Marvel Genesis: Cable, Chapter 1- A New Hope.

WTF? A famous scientist in the 1940s? Which scientist would that be? You’ll find out in the future chapters of Cable. But now, sit back, relax and enjoy Cable’s origin.

Thanks! Yes, it's related to the DD series. Cable also appeared in Wolverine and Heroes for Hire.
