Immortality: Tales of the Undead- Elixir

Dr. Robert Jones had been doing some research in his entire life. This research which could unlock medical possibilities, even a fraction of life could be saved at the highest point as possible. It took three years to develop his own drug, the so-called elixir which could grant immortality, if the results were successful. He wanted to test the drug on his animal subjects, but felt that it wasn’t the right thing to do at first, because he wondered if there were any side-effects, due to the fact that these animals that he had brought into his laboratory, had been tried to be avoided by animal lovers. There were numerous tests being done on the drug itself and still nothing had come up, even his female assistant, Sandra couldn't find anything.

The scientist sat down on the chair, staring at his favorite computer. He entered the password, by typing his fingers out like a long stretch. He became excited after the drug was done in time, and being asked by his top superiors for positive results. They wanted to know if the drug was ready for testing. But Dr. Jones had assured them that he needed more time and to see if he could test his new drug on an animal subject. Every expectation from his superiors had to be met, and this he knew from the fact that they were the ones who funded his research in the first place.

Every single cell of the human body could be repaired by using the drug, which according to Dr. Jones by learning the results from his own computer. No sickness, disease, or injury, whatsoever to be noted. This was Dr. Jones’ dream that finally came true. Sandra looked at the drug, wondering when it could be used at the right time. She had that red hair and lips which made her look pretty all the way, except she hated to wear glasses though. She had several eye doctor appointments in fixing her blurry vision. But the expenses were too much, yet Sandra still couldn't afford it, despite working for the one of the top scientists of the American government. She even asked Dr. Jones to test on animals like rats, monkeys, or even chipmunks. Still, Dr. Jones hadn’t decided whether he wanted to do it.

Sandra came closer toward the drug, which got encased itself in a vial along with the other sets. She took out a single one, hoping that she could drink it, alone. But she felt it wasn’t necessary to perform it on a test subject like herself, a human which may not be considered as a good idea in terms of what Dr. Jones had planned to do. She couldn’t help looking at the green liquid though. It was an obsessive thirst.

Dr. Jones interrupted her by asking to stack up the files, while he had to perform some more drug tests, to make sure everything went fine according to plan. Sandra frowned as she put the vial back into the set. She clearly walked away from the laboratory, and looked back at Dr. Jones, the one who created the elixir of life. Sandra thought to herself, Why did I ever take this job in the first place? Not only can’t I afford to fix my vision, I also didn’t get the credit for helping Dr. Jones in his work.

Sandra was right. She did help him to create the drug, in a sort of way. But the superiors had given the smart Jones, a large amount of credit for doing the work. The other half was shared to Sandra, but it wasn’t enough. Not enough to fix my damn vision, Sandra thought furiously.

While she was on her way to the file room, an incredible thought came to her mind. A thought that not even Dr. Jones could ever think of. Sandra smiled and ran back to the laboratory, telling her wild ideas to the scientist. However, Dr. Jones didn’t seem to like it.

“I can’t do that, Sandra. What you’re doing is out of the picture.”

“Why not?” Sandra asked. “How else can we prove that the drug works?”

Dr. Jones stared at Sandra’s pretty face for a while. He always wondered how it would feel like to f**k her in bed. But her looks didn’t attract him at all. Besides, he was far too busy in his own work, much he less cared about women like her. Yet, the sexiest women had turned him down at certain times when he felt that he needed some company, which his mother had often told him that he should settle down with a big house and kids. He pondered his thoughts about Sandra’s wild idea.

“I hate to say this but... I can see where this is going.”

“Really?” Sandra asked amazingly at the fact that Dr. Jones had finally listened to her. But there was a sinister smile on her face. She didn’t want to tell the other half part of the plan in her mind; a vicious scheme in fact.

“We’ll have to hire a thug to do our dirty work,” Dr. Jones said. He felt that this was something wrong to do, and his superiors had no idea what was about to take place in his laboratory. It was the only way to prove that the drug worked. If he did test the drug on an animal, would it really matter? This could turn out something big, even bigger than Bill Gates had founded Microsoft.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The next day, Sandra called a man on the phone and said he could get his money by doing a single job. The man behind the phone, agreed with Sandra’s conversation. She knew her plan was working at the moment, but at the same time, wondered if Dr. Jones would find out. She put the phone down and then went to tell him, the good news.

A few hours later, a white van came outside the laboratory. From the back of the van, he brought in a homeless man who was old and a little skinny. He had the white beard which covered his chin. The clothes were ragged enough that nobody could recognize him, and the stink that came out of his breath could make anyone puke. It looked like he hadn't eaten anything for years. Dr. Jones gave the money to the thug and off he went into the dark night. Sandra saw what just happened, knowing her plan was going well.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Back in the laboratory, the old man didn’t say anything and looked confused at his strange surroundings. Dr. Jones came closer toward him and said that everything would be alright. The old man finally spoke.

“Can you spare me a change?”

“Not to worry, old man,” Sandra said out of the blue. “Dr. Jones here will give you a big change.”

The scientist looked at her as if it were some kind of joke. He never had the chance to prove things which could work and make his superiors happy. But now that his assistant had brought upon the idea, he would very well test the drug on this homeless man.

Dr. Jones took out the vial of green liquid by using a needle. He then injected the drug into the old man’s right arm. A few seconds later, the old man himself moaned, and wondering if this was the same, addictive drug which he had taken on the streets for all these years. Dr. Jones took out the needle and then placed it on the nearby table. The mad scientist watched patiently to see what happens next. Sandra did the same and hoped the elixir of life would work at any time soon.

Then a strange thing happened. The old man's beard started to grow smaller. The wrinkles from his own body gradually disappeared and his bad teeth was restored to that of the younger years. He was now in the age of 20s. The old man felt a big change in himself alright, according to Sandra's pun. Astonished by the result, Dr. Jones asked Sandra to search for the mirror immediately. She also felt the excitement in her bones and was shocked to see that it actually worked.

She found the mirror from some random desk drawer. She took it out, and then handed to the once and old man. The young-looking man stared at his own face. He was still confused and yet, amazed of what had just happened. It was like a dream.

“What... What the hell did you do to me?”

Dr. Jones didn't even reply, nor could say any more words. He carefully examined the young man’s face and body.

“This is amazing," Dr. Jones said happily. "I’ve done it!” When Sandra heard this, she gave a quick furious glance and then smiled at the same time.

You’ll have all the fun you need, Dr. Jones, Sandra thought. Now’s my chance.

But there was a problem to all of this. The young man now felt something strange inside his body. He felt suddenly hungry, saying that he needed blood.

Sandra and Dr. Jones were horrified to hear this, and thought the young man could be mad. But it was a fact, a side effect which Dr. Jones had not been able to identify beforehand.

And what came next was more terrifying that Dr. Jones could not bear himself. The young man pounced upon him like a wild animal. The scientist fell back toward the table while Sandra watched in horror. She took out a lamp from the side of a nearby table. But the light had shone through the youngster’s face. The young man screamed like hell. A puff of smoke came all over his body. He was truly burning like fire. He ran and ran, and then finally dropped himself into a tank of fish water. The body of the former old and the now young man was gone. His body had been burned into a crisp of ash.

Dr. Jones didn’t know what to say. He had never seen it coming to his senses. He also didn’t know that his drug would bring disastrous results. Sandra saw this small event too. But she had to take the risk, even though there were side-effects to the reverse-aging process. She quickly took out the vial and drank the whole thing.

Dr. Jones was shocked to see what his assistant had done, and knew that this was her plan all along. Sandra felt a sudden change in her body, realizing that she didn't need her eye-glasses anymore. She took them off and threw them on the floor. Her vision was fixed, just as she had expected it to happen. But she also knew the risk of the side-effects. Before Dr. Jones could do anything to prevent Sandra from becoming a monster, the once and nerdy-looking assistant carefully took the lamp, switched off the light and then threw it on the scientist’s head. Dr. Jones fell on the floor like a hard rock. Sandra came closer toward the half-unconscious scientist. She looked down at him, and smirked.

“You’re really are amazing, Dr. Jones. You have done your work very well, thanks to me. Now, it’s time to pay.”

Sandra heard the heartbeat, coming from the scientist’s chest. Not only that, she could see his veins flowing throughout his body. The hunger was there, and that she couldn't help it. She lowered herself down toward his neck and bit it. The scientist screamed as he stared at his own drug, the creation of a monster.
