I know dialogue is a weakness on my part. I tend to say the things I NEED to say. Not just have a chat. So, maybe that and a few other will help.

Thanks. Here is something I've written and getting many ideas now. Any feedback would be great. I always strive to be better. Maybe there was something I kept doing that's not that good.

@acer51 Yes anyone can write it,but this guide is to teach you how to improve things you might be lacking in writing so you can make an excellent story instead of just an okay one.

If I can't find anyone I'll probably just write it myself though, I just realized for someone who made this thread I've yet to write on a topic myself :P.

There should be a "How NOT to write Mary Sues" thread, your master commands it!

I can't count the times I have seen Sues with "fake defects", like anger management issues that only serve to let the sue get away with even more retarded stuff, if you are actually going to add defects to a character and if by chapter 3 no one has been injured or killed thanks to that defect you are either doing it wrong or writing a comedy , its like Chekhov's gun but with character attributes.

Adding good attributes to a character is not bad, you can add as many as you want, AS LONG AS IT FITS THE PLOT. Example:

Lucas is a small kid who wants to win the local spelling contest to pay for the surgery his agonizing and orphaned sister needs.

Now we add the attributes;

Lucas is very clever but he has a bad memory.

Lucas is very clever and can take down apache helicopters with an excellent precision.

Now, which one of this is the odd one out?
