As Johanna Crane walked home, she heard the blaring sirens of an ambulance as it raced past her, nearly hitting her. As Johanna saw her house, she sprinted across the street. As she reached the middle of a street, a crash happened. A car had come in contact with Johanna's fragile and small body. The car hit Johanna, then sped off. As Johanna's limp body lie in the street dying, she remembered her father's tight grip on her as she was taken inside her house. Her father, Jeffery Crane, knew exactly what to do, a small scarecrow suit was put on her body, spraying gases that would help Johanna survive her multiple broken bones, and deflated lung.
Johanna grew up, never went to school, but was home-schooled by her mother, who was then shot by a robber when she was at an ATM getting cash. Johanna was left with her father, who soon became alcoholic and a drug addict. CPS was called, and Johanna was taken from her father. The suit was once tried to be taken off, which led Johanna into a fit of rage. The suit was immediately put back on when Johanna started having troubles in breathing and constant pains everywhere. Once Johanna turned 21, she dawned herself with the name Scarecrow. She was out to find her mother's killer. Johanna was taught well by her mother in science, and biochemistry. Both of her parents were biochemists, so Johanna lived up to the standard.
Johanna never was called Johanna again, she was called Scarecrow, and she forced the civilians of Gotham to call her that. She had an on and off relationship with Bruce Wayne, but was put in Arkham by Batman, once she confessed her devious plans to cause everyone of Gotham to have to live like she does, a suit, constantly pumping in gases so she could survive. Once in jail, Johanna swore revenge on Batman and Bruce Wayne. She knew Bruce was Batman, but she was afraid she'd be put in a mental institute if she confessed. Johanna escaped for her petty crimes, turned a cop into a cloud of poisonous gases and hid in Metropolis for three months. She was then found by Supergirl and put in Arkham once again.
