"Turn that stuff off would you Jack?" John Jones asked as he poured another bottle of scotch for himself.
"Sure thing John. You need anything else?" Jack the barkeep asked.
John held his empty bottle up. "Need a new bottle..."

"BROTHER! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!" J'onn J'onzz screamed.
"Ah. J'onn. I wasn't expecting you here." Ma'alefa'ak said coldly.
"WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO THESE PEOPLE?!"
"The whites? They were caught roaming around the city. For that crime they must be put to death."
"No! This isn't right! Our father would ne-"
"Our father made me king when he died J'onn! As king I've declared that any White Martian causing a crime shall be executed."
"This... this is racist. This isn't right. Father would never have wanted this."
"Father was killed by these people. Just like our mother was. For their crimes against my family they shall ALL pay!"
"Brother. Deep down you have to know this isn't right. Ever since that ambassador arrived you haven't been the same."
"Ever since Desaad arrived I have been enlightened! NOW GUARDS! ESCORT MY BROTHER TO HIS CHAMBERS!"

"Brother... please forgive me for what I've done..." J'onn said as he sat above his brother's corpse.
"you... you've... killed me?"
"I'm sorry. It had to be done."
"it's... too... late..."

"the... war... has... started..."
Ma'alefa'ak's eyes closed and his chest collapsed. The war had started. Something had happened. Outside J'onn heard cries as explosions started to ring. The White Martians were invading...

J'onn stood in the middle of his planet's ashes. The bones of millions of green and white Martians lay all around him. This was all that was left of his world. His culture. Everything he knew was gone. He looked up into the sky and remembered the strange objects that had sometimes appeared monitoring the planet. Luckily the cities cloaking mechanism had hidden the planet from view. Now J'onn was going to need a new home. That planet seemed the best place to start.

2013 (Again)
"Do you ever get tired of it all Flask?" John Jones asked as he and his partner walked down the streets of Gotham City.
"Tired? Tired of what?"
"Tired of all the crap in the world. All the war. Everything. Have you ever wanted to stop it?"
"Well... of course I have. Why John?"
John walked into an alleyway with his partner out of sight of everyone, Quietly John took off his hat and shifted into his Martian form.
"Because I'm not like anyone else who lives here. The reason why I'm trying to stop it is because this is what destroyed my last home too."
Flask's eyes widened as he realized what he was seeing. He opened his mouth to call for help but J'onn's eyes flashed red as he activated his telepathy erasing the last few seconds from Flask's mind. John shifted back to his human form and patted Flask on the shoulder.
"Sorry about that Flask." John said as they walked out of the alley.
Flask rubbed his head in confusion. "Sorry about what John?"
John smiled as he put his hat back on his head. "Sometimes I just need a friend to talk too..."
