Batwoman's name is Kate Kane and The Question's name is Renee Montoya. They decided to take their two-week vacation in France this year. They are hoping to strengthen their relationship. For their first week they decided to go to the French Atlantic coast. They rented a small house near the beach. They were looking for some quiet time. They arrived at their house and found it to be perfect.
The first full day there they went to the beach. Since Kate is a redhead she is vulnerable to sunburn so she set up a beach umbrella to hide under in a small secluded cove. Renee has no issues with the sun and was wading in the water. She found that there wasn't really a surf in the cove and that the sea got deeper gently. Kate was resting on her beach blanket as Renee explored the cove. She waded in up to her waist and was enjoying herself.
Suddenly, in the blink of an eye, Renee was grasped by strong tentacles around her body. She cried out in alarm. "Help me Kate!" Kate quickly went into action. By this time Renee was struggling toward the shore and the squid's head was becoming visible. Kate threw her batarang unerringly and hit the squid in the head with enough force to make it let Renee go. Renee staggered the rest of the way to the beach and collapsed in Kate's arms. She was laid down on her beach blanket to rest.
Kate observed the squid lurking menacingly offshore and kept it under watch. Suddenly there was a great commotion in the water and she saw tentacles and human arms flailing about for several minutes. Then there was calm. Aquaman walked out of the water and told Kate that they were trailing this wayward squid for some time and had it under arrest. Aquaman returned Kate's batarang and she told him it was Renee who was attacked.
They walked over to where Renee was recuperating and Aquaman apologized for the attack. He said the squid was a troublemaker and would be punished sternly. He noticed tentacle marks on her body and said that some of those may have broken the skin and should be treated with antiseptic. He asked the girls if there was anything else he could do for them. Renee said that Kate and Aquaman were her heroes. She said she was feeling better but was still sore where tentacles grabbed her. Mostly she said she was feeling angry at being caught off guard and that no one will believe her story. Kate and Aquaman said they will corroborate her story. Aquaman left the beach with his assistants towing the squid in a metal net.
Kate told Renee "let's go back to the house so those injuries can be treated." Kate helped Renee limp back to the house. A few tentacle marks needed to be bandaged. Renee spent the rest of the morning in bed. In the afternoon they had lunch and that she felt up to sitting on the shady porch. Renee said "what I would really like to do is eat squid sushi." They had a good laugh. "Maybe for dinner we can check out a local restaurant and see if they serve squid" said Kate. Which is what they did.
The next morning Renee was visibly better and the two of them went back to the beach and set up their beach blankets and an umbrella. Occasionally they would venture into the sun. Kate tried swimming with no drama. This is how they spent the rest of the week. By the week's end Renee had healed up enough to not need any bandages. She had a nice tan and even Kate had a slight tan.
They took the train to Paris and went to the place they had reserved. In was a nice little place, but crowded. They were told they would have to share a room with a young lady. Their roommate's name is Ewa and she came from Gdansk, Poland and was 18 years old. They met her and introduced themselves and found out that Ewa was working as an intern at the Paris Police Headquarters. Renee was tired and went to bed early. Kate and Ewa continued talking. Ewa asked "are there a lot of superheroes in the U.S.?" Kate said there were and that she knew some and that she might be able to get an autographed picture of Batman, Batwoman, Batgirl, Robin, Nightwing and Oracle for her.
The remainder of their visit to Paris included tours of the Louvre, Eiffel Tower, the national police headquarters and other places of interest. Kate wanted to climb the Eiffel Tower but thought it better not to. They would meet up with Ewa at their room each night and kept her updated about their activities.
When it came time to leave they had a tearful farewell with Ewa. After hugs Renee told Ewa if she came to the U.S. to let them know. After a long flight home the girls were more tanned, a little heavier from all of the good food. Their relationship was made stronger. Kate got the Bat family and The Question to pose for a group photo. She sent an autographed copy to Ewa.
