My screenplay version of BATMAN: HUSH
The screen is completely black. A ringing sound can be heard, faintly. As it progresses and gets louder and transforms into a scream. We then see a close up of the side of a man's face, staring wide eyed at...something.
EXT. WAYNE TOWER
Pull back, we see the man is being held by his (long) hair off the ledge of the roof of Wayne tower. THE BATMAN'S face is close to his.
THE BATMAN
LISTEN, MAGGOT! YOU KNOW WHO I AM, YOU KNOW WHAT I DO!
MAN
I know man...I KNOW!
THE BATMAN
Then you should KNOW I don't CARE if you FALL! WHERE IS THOMAS ELLIOT?!
MAN
(In pain) I don't know...I don't know..I swear!
THE BATMAN
WRONG ANSWER!
The Batman drops the man, who subsequently falls a few stories before being saved by a rope.
MAN
AAAAAAAAAAH! ah. ah. ah.
THE BATMAN
I'm going to ask once more....WHERE IS THOMAS ELLIOT?!
The scene shifts to
INT. GOTHAM SEWERS
The Batman is shown trudging through the sewers. His boots are covered in some sort of disgusting slime he doesn't even want to think about. A flashlight is the only thing penetrating the darkness.
MAN (NARRATING)
I...I was told there was some sort of...creature that had him....I-I heard he lived in the sewers...some kind of Killing Croc.
The Batman stops, to see a large pair of LIZARD EYES. It talks in a raspy voice that might remind someone of a car running over gravel.
KILLER CROC
You shouldn't have come here...
Batman stares, unflinching, at the creature. He means business.
THE BATMAN
Where it Thomas Elliot?
KILLER CROC
Leave now...while you still can...
The Batman's voice grows louder, as he repeats himself.
THE BATMAN
WHERE is Thomas Elliot?
The creature leaps from the shadows, growling at him. The Batman gets into a ready stance, preparing for a fight.
KILLER CROC
RRRAAAGH!
CUT TO
INT. WAYNE MANOR
Light shines in BRUCE WAYNE'S face as Alfred draws the blinds, letting the sun in. He wipes the sleep from his eyes, slowly.
BRUCE WAYNE
Jeeze, Alfred, can't you let me sleep a little later? What time is it?
ALFRED PENNYWORTH
It's Three O'clock in the afternoon. You've slept for almost the entire day. Just be careful out there. Don't want to tear your stitches, would we?
BRUCE WAYNE
Stitches?
ALFRED PENNYWORTH
Or do you not remember last night, sir?
QUICK CUT
INT. GOTHAM CITY SEWERS
Flashes of Batman fighting Killer Croc go through his mind. One where he throws a kick to Croc's reptilian jaw. Another where he was slashed across the arm by Killer Croc
CUT BACK TO
INT. WAYNE MANOR
Alfred puts a tray with breakfast on Bruce's lap, who is hesitant to eat it.
BRUCE WAYNE
I don't suppose I do....
ALFRED PENNYWORTH
It's not important. You beat a man the press dubbed KILLER CROC, and you saved local other billionaire, Thomas Elliot.
The two pause, neither saying a word. After about ten or twelve seconds of silence, Alfred speaks up.
ALFRED PENNYWORTH
Well go on then, eat. I don't want you wasting my food like you do every night, eat it.
Without saying a word, Bruce picks up his utensils and starts eating.
CUT TO
STREETS OF GOTHAM
Close up on Batman punching a street thug. pull backs slowly and reveal he's fighting a gang. His moves blend together. Everything is one motion to the next. We eventually pull back to a rooftop, where a man in bandages and a trenchcoat watches him.
BANDAGE-MAN
Bruce, Bruce, Bruce...you made the biggest mistake of your life last night....but it's not like you're going to live to regret it...
