Derrick Spinner is a superhero known as the Spider, he is a master of martial arts as well as psychology. While he has now special powers of his own, he is quite adept in his two disciplines as has studied multiple forms in each. He is also a gadgeteer with spider themed gadgets, plus his most noticeable feature his Spider's Web, a network of individuals who have earned his secret identity. Although Derrick is very trusting and eager to trust, and while it is hard for his friends to break his trust, he only shares his identity with those who have proven themselves 'worthy'.

Since he is adept in psychology, I thought of making him a psychologist, but I thought it might be kind of obvious since psychology is one of his two skills, so instead He's going to be a stage magician.

@princemarvel: This sounds very much like a pulp hero, of which there is already one named The Spider. However, being that old, it should be public domain, so go for it. This shares elements of a few different pulp and early comic heroes though, including The Spider, The Shadow, and Mandrake the Magician.

Derrick Spinner is a genuine generous man, he respects everyone, even those who do not deserve it. When he was in high school. Derrick decided to take martial arts classes, he loved the idea of being able to use his skills to avoid getting into fights. But, he had no real direction in his life, he has no idea what he wanted to do after high school, he thought abut it often, but could never find what he really wanted it.

Throughout high school, his friends often came to him for advice, and he tried his best to give them the right advice, even in subjects that he knew nothing about. After high school, this inspires him to study psychology, and he studies multiples forms of psychology, eventually earning a PhD as a psychologist.

Still, he has no real direction in his life, he enjoys the help he gives his clients, but secretly he's unhappy. Until one day on his way home he witnesses a mugging and decides to use his skills to prevent the mugging, successfully talking the mugger out of his intended prize.

The victim ended up being a reporter, and decides to write an article on him. When the reporter learns of Derrick's network of friends he has gained throughout the years, he compares es it to a relational spider's web. This finally prompts Derrick of what he really wanted out of life.

With the help of a small cadre of friends who he has known the longest, he decides to become a superhero, inspired by the reporter's comparison of his friends to a spider's web, he adopts the name Spider. One of his friends even invents a costume that includes four elastic arms that he is able to control. Even though Spider has no superpowers, although his ability to make lasting friendships could be considered a power, and over time his web will continue to grow as he gains more allies. But, not all of his allies know of his double identity, only those who have proven themselves worthy.

Derrick does not like to hurt people, and prefers to talk his enemies out of the crimes they commit first, but often ends up having to fight them anyways. He also does not believe in killing, and will do everything he can to prevent his enemies from dying (although I do plan on having an eventual story line where he does accidentally kill one of his enemies, becomes devastated by it and almost gives up being a hero).

As a way to split his costumed identity from is civilian one, he decides to quit his job as a psychiatrist, finishing out whatever sessions he has already committed to, and become a stage magician. (Also, with his knowledge of almost every form of psychiatry, he does have some investigative skill). He's also going to have a friendship with the reporter who originally inspired him, and he's going to ask the reporter to write negative stuff about him, he figures hat those who need to know that is a hero will anyways. He will also eventually become a part of a team called Arachnid, a team of eight heroes with arachnid themed idetnties
