I'd like to get some kind of official ruling here, please.

When you create a new issue, which date should you put in the release date fields?

  1. The actual date the comic hit the newsstands? E.g., 07/23/2008
  2. The published date from the comic masthead and/or cover? E.g., 09//2008 (Which then translates to September 1, 2008)
Please let me know which is the right way to go, thanks.

It should be the comic/cover date (you're #2).  The day shouldn't show up but we need that for the weekly ones (like Trinity).  The actual released date should only be used by myself when I flag the issues for the NEW COMICS page.

Thanks.

Then can you please tell the morons screwing up the new entries to stop doing it wrong. There's a bunch of them and they're ticking me off. Cheers.

Bumping this to the top as no one seems to have paid the slightest bit of attention.

Next time I will name and shame the morons doing it wrong consistently.

Also it seems when you don't fill in the day, just year/month the day is automatically set as 1. Is it supposed to do that?

The day does seem to default to 1.  I'll have to look into the possibility of doing away with that.  We need it for the weekly comics (like Trinity, 52, etc) but it's annoying on the monthlies.  It's just not a HUGE priority I suppose when there are other things that need to be looked at.  But it is on my list to pass along.

Realistically there should be other options as well like Early Sept. and Late Sept. for the bimonthlies and Spring, Summer, etc. for the quarterlies (Green Lantern Corps Quarterly for example).

Sometime to keep the issues in the correct order I make up my own date

Early (Month) = 1st
Mid (Month)= 15th
Late (Month)= 20th

@aztek the lost: Well if they are all the 1st isn't that also incorrect? It was less than 10 issues I did this with, it's no problem for me to change them back to all be the 1st. What is your suggestion?

@aztek the lost: Well I really don't know how we could do it any other way, especially since I just realized they are released long before the cover dates. I definitely don't want to provide any false information but I also like things to have order. If you come up with anything let me know, they would be easy edits I could do the 9 hours a day I'm at work in front of this computer.
