Just wondering.. but is the word "Damn" considered Profanity? I've always wondered, but no one ever said anything about it :P

#10 Posted by Mercy_ (92605 posts) - - Show Bio
@xxCellPhoneGirlxx: I've seen people use damn and hell (myself and mods included) and staff hasn't, to the best of my knowledge, had a problem with it. I think it's the more hardcore swears and derogatory terms that are the issue.

#11 Posted by CellphoneGirl (18826 posts) - - Show Bio
@The Dark Huntress: Thank god! Because i use to word Damn in like every other post :P
#12 Posted by Mercy_ (92605 posts) - - Show Bio
@xxCellPhoneGirlxx: I continuously use hell and my favorite derivative of it, hellz. So unless told otherwise by mod or staff member, I don't really see a problem with it. ^_^

#13 Posted by aztek_the_lost (28224 posts) - - Show Bio
@xxCellPhoneGirlxx: I don't see anything wrong with it myself, it's not a word that's offensive in that its directed at other people...unless your damning them to THE FIERY INFERNO OF HELL!!!!

 I love you Ennis!!

But if you feel it's profanity or just want to be cool you could instead say:

can we PLEEEEAAASE add that no information from unpublished books should be added to the Wiki....what I mean is that I hate it when people update a character's page with information from a book that isn't released for another 2 months....there's no possible way for anyone on the site to know if that information is accurate or not and all that's being added is speculation and rumors

I have a question regarding wiki edits. Are you guys ok with users making grammatical and spelling errors even if they are just really small errors?

#18 Posted by Mercy_ (92605 posts) - - Show Bio
@Augustus Freeman VI: It happens from time to time. If you notice that you've made an error, you can always go back and fix it. If you see that somebody else has made an error, then feel free to correct it.

I am just wondering if Novels based on Comic Books should be included in the wiki? Such as the Novelization of Death of Superman. or The .40 Caliber Mouse series of Books by Stephen Pytak, published by Mazz Press (Uses characters and illustrations by Norm Breyfogle).  According to the info in this post I would think they would. I just want to make sure. And if they are allowed, what should they be added as?

No we do not have a section for novels.   We only index comic book issues (and unofficially we allow trades).

I'm sure I know the answer but I'll ask anyway.
Are you okay with swearing if it comes from twitter? I swear a whole bunch on there.

I think as long as it's not on the forums you should be all set.

No swearing in ANY public areas of Comic Vine.  That includes blogs, reviews & wiki pages (although characters with swearing in their name is the obvious exception).  You think kids wont look on your profile?  Do you want to be the one to apologise to G-Man if Li'l G-Girl looks at your profile & sees you F-ing & Blinding?

That's why I don't have my Twitter account synched with Comic Vine... so I CAN swear on Twitter.

You should make a sequel to this post and write instructions for following these instructions, and *if up to it*, make a trilogy about how to follow the instructions for following instructions, instruction guide! ... Then pretty soon, we'll be like DUDE LOOK AT ALL THESE INSTRUCTIONS!

so this is probably not the right place for this but maybe? Why does this guy have so many points on diffferent wiki pages but no wiki pts. on his page?

@Iron Apollo: That happens when somebody has their points reset to zero, which occurs when they've been found guilty of plagiarism multiple times.

@The Dark Huntress: a ha!

and it would be too time consuming to delete that persons points from each page? i assume.

That would have to be something a staff member would do, a mod caught the user and reset the points but mod powers don't go up high enough to remove stuff like that.

@pikahyper: obviously.

I wasn't implying a mod should do it.

Yeah...the thing with that is that there's no revision history, so there's no telling what they wrote and what somebody else wrote. Also, there are people who just copy the page, then delete the copied info, rinse and repeat. So technically, they didn't even put any info on the page. Unfortunately, there's no way (that I'm aware of) for them to completely rollback the page (and if there is, I'm fairly certain that it's a pretty arduous process), or else they would have done it recently when somebody did the copy and delete thing.

Just a question - shouldnt there be some mention in the FAQ about violencein the forums?  I mean it is ok to talk about violence but when it is personally related (like a recent thread about if anyone had ever punched a child) shouldnt there be some guidelines on that?
Moderator
#34 Posted by Mercy_ (92605 posts) - - Show Bio
@RazzaTazz: That could actually fall under this.

@The Dark Huntress:  I'm still pretty confused about why it is ok to swear on other whiskey sites but not here o.o?
Moderator
#36 Posted by Mercy_ (92605 posts) - - Show Bio
@pikahyper: I'm assuming it has to do with the fact that we have the youngest fanbase. I don't necessarily agree with the policy (there are a lot worse things posted on here than swearing, just check some of the threads in off-topic), but I do understand it. G-Man's daugher has an account here, Lil G-Girl (she's actually done a good amount of reviews, they were adorable) and I'm sure he wouldn't be pleased if she encountered the f-word somewhere (as XK pointed out) and that holds true with most parents and their children.

How does one become a moderator @ comicvine? What does it take?

#46 Posted by pikahyper (11507 posts) - - Show Bio

@thanosrules: Basically be awesome at whatever you are here for (wiki, forum, battles, rpg), make lots of friends, get noticed/well known and if you are lucky when a spot opens up you might get considered.
