Why DC failed.

I want to take a moment to talk about a big failure of DC. I know we all remember those old cartoons that use to come on CN JL JLU static shock the batman series the superman series. But what i want to talk about is DCs failure to take advantage of the unknown characters who became popular.

For example MY PRECIOUS HAWK GIRL!!! she should have been pushed harder DC should have made sure she stayed relevant. Hwak girl was an interesting character. She was unquie. but as usual if a character does not make enough money super quick they throw him/her aside. Now all we have is an earth 2 knock of of this. Its not fair. If they had handled her right gave her good character development she could have been at least a b Lister.

They should have made sure she stayed relevant. If DC had of done its job hawk might have her own solo new 52

Next we cant talk about her without talking about john stewart. He has proof. When they made the GL movie tons of people were asking why the green lantern was white instead of black. This lets you know that even after all those years john still had people who remembered him. even today some people want him to be the GL in the JL movie. But NOOOOOOO he had to be pushed aside for hal jordan who no one but hardcore comic readers knew at the time. They knew that he would out shine jordan they knew this and it BURNED THEIR SOULS!!!!!. John is the perfect lantern. he had military experience. he's a god dammed architect for petes sakes. But dc just hade to F him over for hal jordan. If DC really wanted to make money they should have made sure these character had the fanbase to hold their own series. But if its not superlame fatman and blunder woman DC does not give a rats ass.

and static OOOOHHHH poor static. not only did they fu*ked him they shi**ed on him as well. they made sure Dwayne most popular character died ass well. they brought him back in the new 52 but fail to push him hard enough before the reboot. so when the new 52 started he did not have a solid fanbase. not only that they gave him the most stupid costume in history. Static was suppose to be their spider-man but dc is so ************* they did not see what they were loosing. Not he is literally gone!!! he might nor ever come back. I even though i was cause he was black which i now see that was just me trying to find some kind of logical explanation for DCs stupidity. like peter Parker he supposed to look like a teenager but in the new 52 he looks like an adult.

I agree with Hawkgirl and Static, I really think that DC could have done a little more with those characters in the new 52.

John Stewart IMO is one of the most overrated characters in DC, the only reason why most people care at all for the character is because he just happened to be in the JL series. He has very little personality, often comes across as cold and uncaring, a completely bland origin, he has very little to no notable villains, no great stories, and he has no dynamic relationships on the level that Hal Jordan or Kyle Rayner have, and he's been around for decades. If anything his presence in the DCU needs to be shrinking because reading a panel with him in it is like watching a wall. If he was such a great and popular character, why is his book Green Lantern Corps. selling just above Kyle Rayner's Green Lantern: New Guardians and Kyle Rayner is pretty much unknown to casuals as he is barely in the DCAU.

Deal with it.

Meh I prefer Hal to John any day of the week. Also this is basically another "my character got screwed over by the New 52" thread which is getting tiring now. Cry me a river, lots of characters have been rubbishly presented by DC or put out of existence but you don't see many specific threads of these anymore because people have moved on, accepted it or ignored it. At the end of the day, The New 52 is the reality the DCU is now and fans have to deal with it for now.

There are a lot more reasons than those that are contributing to DC's failure. Namely, poor editorial. Whoever's in charge of editorial at DC needs the sense slapped into them. And after that, they need to be fired and never touch another comic book again.

Im happy about the new 52 because if gives new comic readers like me a chance to start over with some characters. it is only after reading did i find out about this. IMO, after the JL cartoon I'd take John over Hal any day, and in some regards he is more popular, I think DC force Hal onto too many people IMO.

John Stewart is the most boring human GL eva. So, nope, not a failure.

Hawkgirl was only really popular on the JL/JLU show anyway and honestly John Stewart isn't even my second favorite Green Lantern. I prefer Hal and Kyle over him, and it's not like DC forgot about him, he's still here and in fact he has his own comic book (Green Lantern Corp)

They also tried pushing Static with his own series (one which I supported) but apparently no one else bought it so they scrapped him. Why would DC support something that clearly wasn't working?

@frozen: i think john is just a better character he is a true leader. but i do agree they should add some more pep in his personality. also the injustice comic is the best depiction of him ever

comics in general are dying but DC did have an opportunity in the reboot. make the world smaller/quality over quantity/push new faces and heels/sale to their demographic.

Marvel got a boost in their comics with their movies everywhere but DC is coming strong so that won't stay.

How is dc gonna compete with just 2 movies. i whiling to bet most if not all the marvel movies i listed will be out before the justice league. i like dc better but they have lost to marvel when it comes to movies.

People get upset when any character is killed off, and yes, there are some JLU fans still clinging on to their nostalgic Stewart love, but, I for one, don't like him.

@the_stegman: i no u dont. but there are even people saying he should be in the new JL movie. he still has a powerful fanbase comic and non comic. this is rare being that he is a black character. so u know there is something about him that a large enough group likes

IDK, I like what DC has done with both Hawkman and Hawkgirl. Never found Hawkgirl very interesting, and I think putting her in Earth-2 was a good idea. I will agree I'm a little underwhelmed with Stewart, and I think DC should give him the same treatment as Kyle and Guy, by making him an Indigo Lantern.

@captainmarvel4ever: yeah thats a good idea that way he can get more shine. But he is already to calm and being an indigo what make him TOO calm. i wonder what kind of red lantern he would be.

I think they did try to push Hawkgirl in the comics, she was apart of the Justice League and featured in a lot of stories (not always Shayera though, sometimes it was Kendra)

And no I'm not saying Static is a bad character, quite the opposite actually as he is one of my favorite characters. I'm just saying his comic was not successful at all (not saying anything about the actual quality) thus his solo title was canceled. I was hoping it would be more successful to show to DC that he has a lot of fans and that he can be a successful character but that didn't work out.

@king1_icon: they aren't just going to make two movies. they're introducing a couple of characters in BvM that will likely get solo series. Marvel is well pass introducing their characters in film and ready for new ones as they started with Iron Man in 08. DC just finished the Batman series that re-birthed superhero movies in 05 with Begins. I doubt they do another short series like batman since they brought in Supes/WW but if they did i wouldn't mind if its as great as the last trilogy.

DC tried the assembly line approach with GL and failed. their characters can't do it. they have to make films for individual watching even when in a crowd. I never heard an explenation from anyone why MoS, Watchmen or even the league of extraordinary gentlemen were nothing but great films besides things you can copy and paste and find on google.

marvel movies are sunny. DC just dark.

@jphu8414: When DC wants a character to be known and stay well known they make sure that character gets the attention he/she needs. look how long aqua man has been the laughing stock of comics. but they made sure he stayed popular enough to get an ongoing in the new 52.

Actually, hawk girl isn't just on earth 2. She was on main earth too in the hawkman title.

As for John Stewart, he basically has his own solo series. Green lantern corps has been him as the main character for close to a year.

So what's all the crying about

Stewart had the potential to be the most iconic black hero ever!!!! DC will not let that happen,the thought of John being more liked than Hal scares them lol

I don't either but a lot of fans aside from the comics seem to want John Stewart included in more things than Hal these days.

@demonknights: i did not even no hawk man had his own series. Id only read it if it has the original hawk girl. for some reason i never hawk girl with hawk man even though they were made for each other...literally. i liked her with Stewart but i can accept that will never happen again. but what issue does she first appear in.

tldr but DC is full of fail most of the time, especially now.

@king1_icon: yea it gives a few new readers (mostly just people who read batman and think he is just a guy who punches people cause its fun and think he can beat supes) and at the same time gets rid of all those evil long time loyal fans. Cause this was a good idea.

@king1_icon: I don't think it would make him too calm, besides his military type personality would work really well with the Indigo Tribe.

Hawkgirl only made about 3 appearances in hawkman before it got cancelled after I think 17 months.

John Stewart is the main character in green lantern corps. I don understand what the whining is about. Seems like maybe you people want Hal erased from comics. They both have their own comic!

@demonknights: I know stewart is the main character in the GL corps. But with him that's not what i was talking about. Hal is still considered the premier lantern even john is more popular. The fact is that hal is only only popular with the comic readers. John is well known in and out side of comics because of the JLU show. that's why every1 was asking why GL was white in the movie. This showed they did not read comics but even after all those years still remembered john and likely preferred him over hal. they had never heard of hal. that movie did awful so people who dont read comic(and some that do) probably want to see Stewart. When people see that john was a military sniper and had AMERICAN military training their going to want to see him use those skill as a GL. not only that he was an architect. if you think about his movie potential is greater than hals.
