Sinestro is basically Satan

Think about it.

Sinestro: "Fired" from the Green Lantern Corps because his ways were too violent and he was too power-hungry. Gets back at the Green Lantern Corps by forming his own Corps (Yellow Lanterns) and becoming enemies with them. Is evil.

Satan: "Fired" from Heaven because his ways were too violent and he was too power-hungry. Gets back at Heaven by forming his own agency (Demons) and becoming enemies with them. Is evil.

Also, both have reddish or purplish skin depending on the incarnation.

They have similar origins. That's where the comparison begins and ends though.

@jaken7 See, that's the point. They have shockingly similar origins. However, Sinestro is far less hellbent (get it?) on revenge and damage than Satan is. But depending on what incarnation of Satan we're looking at, Sinestro does kind of look like him physically.

A lot of characters in comics are based on other people, both fiction and non-fiction.

And I'm pretty sure when God and Satan split they did not have a separation as tear jerking as Hal and Thaal. Like this.....

Sinestro at least recently has shown remorse and guilt about some of his actions, he also seems to be less bent on power now.

@jphu8414 Thanks. It wasn't my idea, though. I'm trying to get my friend into comic books, so I was telling him Sinestro's origin. When I was done, he just looked at me and said, "So he's Satan?"

You can't spell Sinestro without "sin"

He reminds me more of Hitler. Both are ruthless but passionate leaders. Plus they look just alike.

I almost shed a tear when I read that. It instantly made Sinestro my favorite villain.

Um...No. There are plenty of villains to compare to Satan, especially in the DC Universe. Sinestro ain't one of them.

Well duh. That was kind of the point back when he was first created, I believe.

@patriotperson: same hair and same mustache plus I'm pretty sure it's been stated before that he was modeled after Hitler. Not exactly what Hitler did , but who he was

@knightfall225: Sinestro was modeled after David Niven, not Hitler. He wasn't even an ex-GL during his first appearance, so there wasn't even a fascist element to the character at first.

There are other characters in DC that are more "satan" like.
