December 2014 Character of the Month: Robin (Damian Wayne)

Wonder Woman, you were an awesome Character of the Month, but November's over, so it's time to step aside and let another hero receive some extra focus! As you can tell by the title of this article, the voters have selected Damian Wayne, a.k.a. Robin, to receive a ton of praise and attention throughout December! It seems fitting since -- SPOILER ALERT! -- we know he's coming back to the pages of BATMAN AND ROBIN as well. We all knew he wouldn't stay dead forever, right? He's just too darn lovable and Peter Tomasi does such a terrific job writing Bruce Wayne's son! Now, we realize Damian's a pretty polarizing character, so if you're really not a fan of the little dude, do yourself a favor and just don't click on the articles about his history. For everyone else, prepare for a lot of fun!

Damian becoming the Character of the Month means he's about to get a lot of love, but we're also going to put his abilities as a combatant to the test! We're going to put the kid in our Battle of the Week segment. There, he'll face challengers he's never met before in a totally random encounter. Will he overcome and earn the support of the voters or do they think he'll get knocked out? Guess we'll just have to wait and see! If there's someone not from DC that you want to see Damian fight, let us know in the comments!

When Damian isn't duking it out with someone else, we're going to take an extensive look at his history. We'll highlight some of his best covers, discuss one of his most memorable brawls, recommend some important stories, and maybe even write a few editorials about him. If you don't know all that much about the character, we hope you'll learn a lot this month. If you already know and love the hero, we hope this will be a nice trip down memory lane!

We placed five options on the poll. While three of them remained neck and neck throughout the week, Damian managed to hold a firm lead over all of his competition. Sadly, the Guardians of the Galaxy remained in last place pretty much the entire time. That's kind of surprising given the popularity of the recent movie! Anyway, check out the results below.

Seems like every other month or every 3 months is a Bat-character. I predict Dick Grayson will be the character of the month in February (Black History Month) or March (Women's History Month).

Adolescent character to battle first?

Maybe a younger Avenger (Patriot/Miss America) or younger member of the x-men.

Can't remember who I voted for but I'm cool with Damian winning.

It wouldn't surprise me if we have a theme for Avengers: Age of Ultron characters at some point!

Also, if GotG won, we would have definitely found ways to give the different characters some extra love, so that would mean Gamora would be getting extra attention.

You know, you're more than welcome to suggest themes and options if you really want to. Seeing as this is the last month in 2014, I wanted to reflect on the characters from this year's comic book movies.

Given the options, I would have predicted Guardians of the Galaxy or Captain America to be way up there. Their movies were immensely popular and that gives people a way more positive impression of 'em. Also, to be fair, I wouldn't really call Deathstroke a Batman character, so the Damian's just the second Bat-character to become CotM (unless my memory is seriously failing me right now and I'm forgetting one?).

Who ever came out with idea to bring Ra's Al Ghul,Talia and League of Assasin in Batman comics in modern era is brilliant. For those who don't know the Denny O'neill Ra's Al Ghul-League of Assasin related stuff have been forgotten by many Batman writers for many years and all writers seem always focus on Batman story that takes place on Gotham until...one man name Grant Morrison remember the story where Batman have some fun with Talia and continue the story , and thanks to that we have Damien Wayne

Since it's the end of the year, the theme was 2014 comic book movies (Cap 2, Days of Future Past, TMNT, Son of Batman, GotG).

Damian was my second choice so I'm fairly happy with this.

Awesome. I hope you make a article about Damian changed from a dislikable brat to a lovable brat, to clear the misconceptions of some of users. Also Damian vs. Hit-girl or Damian vs. Emiko.

@k4tzm4n: Fair points. A Cap month or GotM would have been cool, but I don't think movies make characters that much more popular on the vine. People generally have their favorite characters decided, and comic interpretations don't always replicate the film interpretations. First battle: Miles Morales Vs Damian

Literally the last character I would have chosen from the bunch, especially since I barely consider a direct to dvd cartoon a movie in the same sense as the other choices. Basically I think all the DC votes got piled into one character and the rest got split between the four other choices. But enough sour grapes,this is after all a democracy lol. The people have spoken.

Well seems like December will be a Month to skip. Since I don't like Damian, and don't really want to read about how he's one of thee worst characters from DC, as well ruined the Bat-Family. Shame too. I usually like December :(

Animal based, being such as Cheetah, Tigra, etc.

Maybe not the best Robin, but certainly one of the most unique
