 "So creepy!"

     Alright, here we go!
The Theme of this contest is "Creepy Crawly".   The goal is write, draw or photograph the creepy, dark, mysterious or eerie.  You may write a short story, sketch an eerie image, or take a really good creepy photo!   Please don't submit a novel (please 1,000 word max!)  and no borrowed images allowed!

And the BIG prize is going to be appropriate to the "dark" aspect of this contest and it consists of 3 things

1.  Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight #162 signed by Jerry Robinson (Robinson is the co-creator of THE JOKER and the creator of Robin!)
2.  Detective Comics # 660 signed by the creator of Bane, Chuck Dixon!   (he drew Robin saying "UH OH." in case that pic is too small to read)
3.  Batman # 496 (signed on July 2nd, 2011 in Miami, FL at the Florida Super Con) I put in $10.00 of my own money to get this issue signed by the co-creator of Poison Ivy, Mr. Sheldon "Shelly" Moldoff (He also created the original Batgirl, Batwoman, Matt Hagen (Clayface), Bat-Mite, Ace the Bat Hound (he's in Batman Beyond too!)...the list goes on! )

And in case you are sad that you did not win 1st there will also be  a  2nd and 3rd prize for the runners up

2nd prize:  Batman #546 (Joker app.)signed by Jerry Robinson
3rd prize:   Detective Comics # 617 (" ")  signed by Jerry Robinson

I will also include the flyers for you from each of the events I attended to obtain these signatures.   I have worked rather hard at obtaining these signatures and I can personally vouch that all are 100% AUTHENTIC!
I just wanted to spread a little love by giving out a few from my rather large collection!   Enjoy.

Sheldon Moldoff Signing a stack of my comics at Florida Super Con

The Funny thing is he asked "Where do you want it signed!?"  and I said "across the bottom is fine"----so he signed across Poison Ivy's "Bottom"!   Haha---I love it!

The Rules

This is great! Very generous of you as well. I hope you receive a large number of entries. My only "problem" is for you. There are users on Comic Vine with multiple accounts who do things in other Forums that are less than honest. So I hope people will be honest here. Not trying to be a jerk or rain on your parade, but saying this to anyone who may enter. I support this 100%. Good luck and great idea!

@Decept-O: Thanks for the kind words--and I trust that everyone will be honest---the moderators seem to keep a good eye on everything ! :)

Agreed very cool of you to do this. I already have a pretty good idea of what I'm going to enter for the contest.

I was gonna say xerox-kitty can help you with that, she's an eagle eye. I see she got here faster than me though to let you know :)

Great theme, this'll take some thinking time to come up with something just right.

@Jotham: Please enter! I wanna see more.

@Decept-O: Looks awesome. I hav'nt pencil drawn in so long Ive forgotten how kinda.

#17 Posted by nszerdy (439 posts) - - Show Bio
@Jotham:  yeah, definitely don't give up---I'd look for examples---see what pop's up under images on google for "creepy" "dark" or "spooky"  ---use these to get inspired--or to use as reference for your own piece.  Or watch Coraline, Nightmare Before Christmas, Beetlejuice, or something darker like a zombie movie or The Grudge--!   Or even go to a graveyard, an abandoned or old house and take Black and White photos-----always creepy----Even grandmother's can be creepy sometimes if they're not quite asleep--but not quite awake---you can get a great photo--hahaha!  -hope that helps!
#18 Posted by gravitypress (2069 posts) - - Show Bio

Mine is off The Grudge TV movie from Japan. Holy crap that was scary. I highly recommend it. Its WAAAYYY scarier than the movie.

#22 Posted by tonis (6202 posts) - - Show Bio

@DomDom: GOOD GOD!! I'm gonna have nightmares over that. Everything that is possibly creepy from crawling bugs to hands grabbing you out of nowhere and bats nipping at your head.

You may not do horror a lot, but damn if your not a natural when you give it a shot speedy :)

#23 Posted by DomDom (1013 posts) - - Show Bio
@tonis: Hahaha!  I'm gonna have nightmares!  Sometimes i creep myself out...

Sure it does. Your picture has a whole lot going for it. The level of detail, the composition, and the background is cool.

@gravitypress: Thanks!  I am sorry I didn't reply sooner but your reply didn't show up in my Inbox.  Having problems with Viners' replies not showing up and its really annoying me.  Please don't think I was being rude, I truly truly appreciate any feedback anyone gives me.  Thanks.

@DomDom: Thanks, and like I told gravitypress, I didn't get your reply in my Inbox.  Thanks so much.

#33 Posted by gravitypress (2069 posts) - - Show Bio
@payno: Awesome pic!
#34 Posted by tonis (6202 posts) - - Show Bio

@payno: another example that shows your not just a great comic artist but also a great horror designer. VERY creepy :)

This would make a great B&W entry in the showcase. (would also kill in the horror category)

bump

#42 Edited by tonis (6202 posts) - - Show Bio

@nszerdy: hey if everything goes smooth I may actually have my entry ready before the end of today :)

I don't know how 'creepy' it's gonna seem, but it definitely is 'freaky' XD

#43 Posted by nszerdy (439 posts) - - Show Bio

Cool, I'm looking forward to it!

#44 Posted by tonis (6202 posts) - - Show Bio

@nszerdy: woo hoo, everything cooperated and I managed to get this done before the end of the month :)

After a monstrously long rendering time (it took 22 hours just for the computer to draw it) this goes down as the second longest render I've ever made.

I wanted to try something different for me, which is to make some 'cute' horror. Something along the lines of Coraline or The Nightmare Before Christmas but I also wanted to use a character who I find very creepy, Medusa.

She despises these little pink monsters but her baby needs to eat and she insists on playing with her food

While drawing I fed myself a constant diet of Dir en Grey and Tool to keep myself in the mood.  Hopefully it payed off and you're just as disturbed as I am. x.x

 My Plague
A tiny apprentice without self-control
Bit the hand that feeds and payed the toll
Judgement fell on his guilty soul
To eternally feast from his master's bowl
#46 Posted by tonis (6202 posts) - - Show Bio

@M.S. Feather: oh man, how you manage to be so cute and still make it so creepy is pure magic :)

That reminds me of stuff I used to see back in the old PLOP! magazines. Very Very twistedly cool.

Woah!  I love how the art in that series is grotesque in a cartoonish way.  I'll have to look those up next time I'm at the comic shop. :D

I love it.. and it really oddly reminds me of a children's TV show...

@.Mistress Redhead.: Thanks.  I guess I could kind of picture it as a stop-motion animation with a British guy reciting the poem over it...I'm pretty sure it'd be banned from PBS though. :P
