February Contest: The ComicVine Community Is At War!

The ComicVine February contest is on. You and a partner of opposite or neutral alignment must join forces to create a classic battle of good versus evil that takes place at a specific location in any comic universe. Basically, pick 2 any unfilled character pages on ComicVine along with one location page, and fill them in before March to the best of your ability, then send a quick fictional account of the battle between those characters to info@comicvine.com. Then the staff will judge the quality of the ComicVine pages you filled in for your hero, villain and location, as well as your description of the battle. Whoever has the best looking and filled in pages as well as the most inventive battle wins!

The Deadline for submissions is February 28th. Battles will be posted on March 1st and the winner will be announced March 2nd.

1. You must partner up with another ComicVine user who is of opposite or nuetral alignment. Meaning, a good and evil user together, a good and neutral user together, an evil and neutral user together or two neutral users together.

2. You must select a comic hero, villain and location for your battle. If you really feel up to it, you may choose two teams (still good vs. evil), but beware you are likely looking at A LOT of work to fill out team pages since they are naturally larger. We're judging on quality, not quantity. You will not be judged on issues attached to the characters or teams, just on their core pages.

3. The pages you choose must either be new, or pages with little or no content currently on them. "Little" is defined as pages with less then 10 images and less then 2 paragraphs of text in them currently. Update Please check the rules update on page 2 of this topic to see special considerations for this rule.

4. Although submissions will continue as normal, if anyone is caught vandalising another teams selections or in any way attempting to rig the contest you will be immediately disqualified and likely banned from user submission completely. Remember, deletes and shorter pages go through moderation, so don't get too worried about stuff like this.

5. Battle Descriptions must be text only and must be emailed to info@comicvine.com by the deadline.

6. The winner and runner-up will be decided by the ComicVine staff.

Leave a post on this topic that states the pages you select and your partner. Once confirmed I'll post your team and pages in the post directly under this.

First Place:

1. You are allowed to pick one feature addition to ComicVine.com that the staff will build within 2 weeks of the contest ending. This must be within reason since we'll likely build it over the weekend. Just PM Captain Cascader before the contest ends if you're unsure if your proposal is too large. There's only so much we can do over a weekend, so be clever and realistic!

2. One $100 gift certificate to Amazon.com (or similar reputable online store) for each of the two teammates.

Oh, don't assume they aren't strategizing right now over PM! Right now they're prolly looking for cool characters that don't have much info on them cuz the rules knock out the majority of major chars since they are somehwat filled in at this point. hehe.

Well, looks like there are a couple peeps looking for partners... hankychief and you could duo since you're both neutral.

Maybe, although I was looking forward to trying to snag both 1st prizes. =P

I'm not sure I understand it, is it like a fanfic thing or is it elaborating on some conflict or event that hasn't been covered substantially yet?

Basically you just pick three pages. Fill them up as completely as possible, then write up a little fictional battle between the two characters at the location. We'll publish all the battle descriptions on the boards, then the staff will judge who did the best job with the character and location pages as well as who thought up the coolest battle scenario.

Yes. Though you only need to send the battle to info. Just edit the char/location pages directly to the site.

Guys, please announce who you are working on so I can keep watch over those pages just in case someone trys to delete content on them.

Just an update, but I've gotten quite a few questions about if you can use such and such character even though they have some content already in their pages. In general we just don't want people using pages that are already pretty solid (Booster Gold, Wiccan, Wildcats...etc) but if you feel that there's a lot more to add to a page, even though it has more then 2 paragraphs of text, then you're welcome to give it a go under the following conditions.

Basically if you have your heart set on a character, and they happen to have more then two paragraphs of text, just send me a PM and make the request before you announce. I'll likely allow it if you plan on really sprucing the page up, but be aware that the staff judgements will take what was previously on that page vs. what you added into heavy consideration. Remember the whole point of these contests is to show off your work while also filling out the site, but we totally understand people wanting to set up battles with their favorites. Just know that you'll have to really do something special if you're gonna pick up a major character that already has a decent comicvine page.

Also be aware that this isn't a popularity content. If you do end up picking a major character, it's not gonna help you out with our judgements. We're looking for completeless and quality of writing on the comicvine pages as well as inventiveness if your proposed battle.
