The Comic Vine winter contest is on. We're giving away one Eric So, limited edition Hellboy figurine (valued at $150 dollars) to the user who can create the single best character or Team page by midnight January 2nd as voted on by the Comic Vine staff.

  1. The "best page" is the one the comic vine staff (myself, Red LAMP & G-Man) decide is the best. It will be judged on completeness of all pages for that character or team (meaning, friends, enemies, trivia...etc). It will not be judged on any info at the volume or issue level attached to those characters (though added info at that level won't hurt). Submissions will also be judged on grammer and formatting.

  2. To enter in the contest, simply reply to this thread and call out the character or team you'd like to attempt to take on and enter in the contest. You can claim up to 3 pages (which can be a mix of chars and teams, or all teams or all chars). First come, first serve.

  3. You can only claim a character or team you either have the highest point total for currently, or a page that currently has less then 30 points attached to its highest contributor. This means that your previous work done before this post will count as long as you meet this rule.

  4. While others can still contribute to the pages you've taken on, priority will be given to your submissions and if the staff notices any sabotage, that user will be instantly disqualified from the contest.

  5. If any descriptive textual content on your pages is found to be plagerized (marvel, wikipedia) you're instantly disqualified.

  6. You must list all 3 of your page choices in your first post. You can not change your choices later or trade with other users.

This is a pretty rare figurine (only 999 were made) and stands a full 10 inches in height! It comes fully boxed and with a certificate of authentication.

Just a heads up, we're planning on trying to get at least one new contest going every two weeks as soon as the new year begins. The prizes will almost always be figurines and/or comic minis.

Let me just say this Hellboy really kicks asssss! RedL.A.M.P. was so kind to give me one for Christmas one year. It looks awesome in my display case. Definitely one of the better, funner Hellboy products I've seen. Good luck to all.

G-Man says:

"And let me say again, please please please do not copy off of wiki or marvel.com or somewhere. Make it your own description. Own it...and you could win Hellboy."

Can we use it for reference, and reword it to our own? Just to cover periods we may have missed, in order to make it complete? I'm a whiz at rewording.

A whiz I tell you!

Yeah half my Wiccan entry was rewrite and half was from me so I am starting over now that I have more time,So no rewriting.

I am going to do my best but I think I might get beat cus I am going to have less to do with the profile because he is a new hero compred some of these people that were taken.

With years and years of history, but I got sidetracked.

So if you want to see what not to do for this contest look at Wiccans current proile and compare it to the Wiki sites out there. I am waiting to compleate my 100% orginal profile till I have it all complete.

Yeah, there's a really thin line between "research" and "plagiarism". I'm talking about using the mentioned sites as source material, as the only other way to get the information is to remember every major facet from every comic they've been in.

There's only so many ways to say: "Bruce Wayne's parents were killed during a mugging." You're just finding new ways to say that.

But I hadn't planned on getting THAT close to the other sites entries. Just using them to remind myself of some of the more important moments of the character's lives I might have forgotten.

im in 8th and learning about that now.

#25 Posted by G-Man (32252 posts) - - Show Bio

Ya know, there's a ton of creators without anything written. A lot less competition.

Staff
#26 Posted by Tonelada (3 posts) - - Show Bio

I believe I'll claim Parallax. Maybe more after today.

#27 Posted by G-Man (32252 posts) - - Show Bio

Again, I'll mention the creators. I think a good one would be Kevin Smith. Daredevil? Bluntman and Chronic? Or Joss Whedon. They'd be easy ones.

Staff
#28 Posted by ScoodleDaddle (646 posts) - - Show Bio

I think Parallax might actually have to be combined with Hal Jordan/GL

#29 Posted by G-Man (32252 posts) - - Show Bio

Yeah, I'm pretty sure there's a mention and some pics in his gallery. Not sure if it needs it's own entry, in my opinion.

Staff
#30 Posted by ScoodleDaddle (646 posts) - - Show Bio

Agreed. Although, I did volunteer to re-organize all the GL stuff after the contest, if somebody decides they want to do Hal/Parallax/whatever for their entry, then someone needs to unspecify the "Green Lantern" page from Hal, and just make it a concept or something before that happens, as to avoid confusion.

Dibs on Marvel Zombies (love that arc baby).

I'm lucky, I can sit down with the 5 comics and the few precursor comics on my lap, so I don't have to worry about plagiarism, because it's all me.

/copies off of Wikipedia because he's still lazy

Edit:

Just read that Events/Arcs weren't explicitly included. This an over-sight or a purposeful exclusion?

K, just 10 more minutes left, then I'm gonna close subs for pages in contention till noon tomorrow when we'll announce the winner. It's gonna be really close I think.

#40 Posted by Captain Cascader (1284 posts) - - Show Bio

Drumroll please....

And the winner is... well actually the winners are... ScoodleDaddle for Booster Gold and Buckshot for Mr. Majestic. Both enteries were amazing and it was simply too hard for us to pick between Scoodle and Buckshot's awesome pages. Not only that, both continued to contribute to other parts of the site filling in chunks of the site while the contest was up.

This turned out better then we could have hoped and so we figured it wouldn't be a big deal to just send out two hellboy's instead of one! Scoodle and Buckshot, please PM me with a mailing address and we'll get the prizes out to you as quickly as possible.

Other great pages included valinorbob for Beta Ray Bill and Raif for Wiccan. Valinorbob should get a special note for introducing the image box styles early on that everyone else seems to have adopted.

In any case, congrats to the winners. For everyone else we'll be announcing a new contest by next week so that everyone else gets a shot. If you have any ideas for one, please post below. Thanks for everyone who entered.

Unfortunately my comics are half-way across the country right now, so I couldn't really fill in lots of information on my pages. Ah well, I tried. Congrats to the winners. I can take some pride in the fact that my magic image code is used everywhere now. Stage one of my master plan complete. MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

#43 Posted by ScoodleDaddle (646 posts) - - Show Bio

Haha, yeah dude. That thing saved me, and is probably going to be instrumental in making pages look better and more cohesive.

Congratulations to the winners. The pages are awesome! I didn't even get round to editing my entry... Too many alcopops over the Christmas period left me inebriated :P

#47 Posted by Raif (360 posts) - - Show Bio

I got kinda lost cus the holidays also and when I lost four hours work that made me mad and I never really got back into the grove. I hope you guys like your figures! You did great jobs.
