@Squalleon: above should answer your question (was busy looking through the list's order for stuff I wanted to change...advangates of being a host I know if my votes would really count (ex: my vote for For the Man... is fairly useless since it doesn't change anything but I thought I would vote for it anyway...)

@Xanni15: counted!

and now my votes to finish this step up:

  1. Superman Annual #11 (For the Man who has everything)
  2. Action Comics (1938) #1 ("Superman! Champion of the Oppressed...")
  3. Superman Vs. Muhammad Ali (1978)
  4. Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?
  5. Superman (1939) #247 ("Must there be a Superman?")

Most of mine are strategic votes rather than preference votes. I do like other titles more, but the placement of these could be better (or in some cases some stories should be lower so I vote for their competitors).

So that's 57 votes. I'll leave this open for a little while longer while I fix a few things in the spreadsheet and in the wiki (have done most of the stuff I need, but I need to make wiki arc pages for a few...). For those who are interested: the results will be released sunday by the looks of it. Saturday will be devoted to tie breaking. I'll post a thread later on tonight where people break some ties present in the list (biggest example is 96-147 are all tied). I figure I want 25% of the voters to fix this (so 15 or so users to vote for this and I'll explain then) though I wouldn't mind a minumum of 10 users, so I want 10-15 or more users to break the ties.

These could be very helpful and also more like recommended lists for all comic viners! I will request for this but not sure if he will even be able to read this comment :)

@The Poet: My 5 votes go like this good sir: 4pts to Hitman #34 and 1pt to Death of Superman

Online
Posted by Z3RO180

My first 3 votes are for Superman for tomorrow , brainiac and death of superman - my reason for these three are the same because I own these three books and they are awesome. My last two votes are for Action comics 1 (1938) because this was the comic that started it all if it wasn't for this book we would never have had the man of steel or superheroes in general. My last vote is for Kingdom come - even though I have never read the full thing from what I have read is that this book shows superman at his most heroic and it gives us the readers a great story and a few kickass moments

@Squalleon: oh, now I see the edit...

See, this is what I was thinking would happen. I would have to explain the idea for a system suggested by with help from

So, before each of the 5 Final Order Votes were worth 5 pts each (with 25 pts in total). However, there was some confusion on what I meant by "you can use your 5 votes however you want" (I meant you meant you could use them HOWEVER you wanted so you could add 5 to one title or 1 to five or however it worked) which I guess I didn't explain to our list participant newcomers. They thought it was unfair and said we should regulate that everyone votes 1 pt per title (which would isolate users who voted for only one title). Fast forward...E. Tragedy suggested the system we are now using (absolutely no change in votes, just the way we/I count the votes)

We still count all the FOVs together, but then we multiply it by the number of voters. the forula would be FOV total x 1.0(number of voters). take your example there:

7 Cosign(s) + ( 5 FOVs x 1.05 ) = 12.25@

we start with 5 FOVs. Now, it was voted upon by 5 people, so we multiply that by 1.05 and then add that to the 7 cosigns, thus resulting in 12.25 pts in total.

So, this system depends on not only the number of votes, but the number of voters because I could use my 5 FOVs on that same title but the result would be different: 7 Cosign(s) + ( 5 FOVs x 1.01 ) = 12.05. It's only a slight difference, but in some cases it makes a title higher than another. We'll see if this system works. Still has ties though I haven't compared this spreadsheet to others from the past to see it effects that any. The only complaint thus far is that I don't have a simple explanation for this system, but I'd bet once I type it a few times I'll think of something...

@The Poet Thanks :-)

as promised...the current top 10:

  • Superman: Red Son
  • Kingdom Come
  • Death of Superman
  • Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?
  • Superman for All Seasons
  • Superman: Birthright
  • Infinite Crisis
  • Brainiac
  • Action Comics (1938) #1 ("Superman! Champion of the Oppressed...")

here is their stats:

All-Star Superman : 13 Cosign(s) + ( 24 FOVs x 1.19 ) = 41.56

Superman Annual #11 (For the Man who has everything) : 12 Cosign(s) + ( 21 FOVs x 1.13 ) = 35.73

Superman: Red Son : 12 Cosign(s) + ( 16 FOVs x 1.11 ) = 29.76

Kingdom Come : 11 Cosign(s) + ( 15 FOVs x 1.1 ) = 27.5

Death of Superman : 7 Cosign(s) + ( 11 FOVs x 1.19 ) = 20.09

Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow? : 9 Cosign(s) + ( 9 FOVs x 1.09 ) = 18.81

Superman for All Seasons : 8 Cosign(s) + ( 8 FOVs x 1.08 ) = 16.64

Superman: Birthright : 6 Cosign(s) + ( 8 FOVs x 1.04 ) = 14.32

Infinite Crisis : 5 Cosign(s) + ( 8 FOVs x 1.04 ) = 13.32

Brainiac : 8 Cosign(s) + ( 5 FOVs x 1.05 ) = 13.25

Action Comics (1938) #1 ("Superman! Champion of the Oppressed...") : 7 Cosign(s) + ( 5 FOVs x 1.05 ) = 12.25

It's less complicated than what we had for like the villain list of 2011 (that was a mess). we'll see if this system works. by the looks of it, we'll have to do tie breaking on saturday. I figure what I'll do is create a thread with all the ties and 10 or more people can tie break. There are not as much higher on the list, but 94 onward to 147 we have a tie which will decide what the last 6 titles will be (I may reopen cosigning for them or I may just do .01 voting. Not sure...)

Sorry for the delay in saying this...It's been a busy week[end] plus I just finished reformating the voting system (so instead of each vote counting as 5 pts all the FOVs are totaled and multipled by 1.nv -- one point number of voters). We'll see if this works better. Don't ever say I don't listen to the community...

I'll give one vote to cosign Death of Superman, but the rest are going to Action Comics issue 719: Hazard's Choice. This issue is my favorite single issue that DC has ever produced and next to Amazing Spiderman 500, it is my favorite single comic book issue of all time. I love how it illustrates the dynamic between Superman, Batman and The Joker and I love how The Joker pushes The Man of Steel to his very limit without laying a finger on him. I did a full review of it that can be found at the end of this link.

I'm sorry, I just have never seen why people like Superman: Red Son. I thought it was horrible.

Now, an Elseworlds where Superman was the Russian and the other American heroes were still American...that would be something. I hated the Russian Batman. Made no sense to me.

But just the fate of Superman colliding either into Kansas or the middle of USSR simply on what side of the planet was facing the rocket, now that would be worthy of exploration by a top notch writer. Mark Waid would be my pick for that story. Or has this been done??
