Regarding public domain characters, are those pages allowed to be copied? I've seen it done and didn't know if I should change it or not.

Copied in what way? Plagiarism isn't allowed.

Looks like copied from Wikipedia.

Also, is the format the same for public domain characters?

You should report about that to a mod then.

Yeah.

Well, a part of Zorro's page is directly from Wikipedia, the Character Evolution.

@Xanni15: I will look into it.

Does Comic Vine allow manga magazines? I was sent here to add the Weekly Shonen Sunday here to serve as a backup for Anime Vice's page in case things happen...

Since I can't read Japanese, I'll probably mess up dates and issue number since the dates on the covers don't match the release date for some odd reason.

Posted by pikahyper

@takashichea: they got manga chapters in them so they are fine

@Anna1610: you again? we have no clue what you are on about, creating an alt account to do the same thing isn't going to help any, you need to explain why you keep posting this video.

For foreign comics, do we add the company description in that language or do we translate it?

Everything in English.

Well it would be pretty redundant to add the same solicit for the same issue.
But the rule is pretty stupid when it comes to foreign solicits. People would be looking for a foreign description in foreign issues but oh well...
Btw, get an adblock :p

Posted by pikahyper

@guttridgeb: you can't add foreign solicits unless your English is very good and you translate it yourself, the original language description is not allowed nor is using a description translated with any kind of translation tool like a web site or dictionary.

Also we call that a solicit, if it is included it must be official from the publisher and added in italics to signify that it is an official text blurb.

Okay. My first language is English but I speak some French and I bought the TPB to help so I won't translate it just yet. Thanks for providing the word, I couldn't remember it and its been bugging me for ages :)

Posted by pikahyper

@guttridgeb: you bought the trade in English or in French?

Moderator
Posted by guttridgeb

@pikahyper: French

Posted by pikahyper

@guttridgeb: then you wouldn't add it to the American volume, foreign comics get their own volume with the foreign cover and foreign publisher added who I'm guessing is Panini. Also what you are referring to is the back blurb, very similar to a solicit and it is allowed to be used here but it gets its own header, here is an example, top part is the official solicit and the bottom is the back blurb, both in italics. Also if the title isn't in English you would use its native language for the volume title and story titles if you decided to add them, for foreign comics the original language is only allowed for volume/story/chapter titles, everything else must be in English.

@guttridgeb: Make sure you name it correctly too, most foreign trades are not released stand alone and instead are part of a series of collections, in France from Panini it could be part of 100% Marvel, Marvel Graphic Novel, Marvel Deluxe, Marvel Premium or any other series of collections, check out the indicia for confirmation, look up the ISBN or just ask.

@pikahyper: Yeah, I already created one and I'm confident the name is correct. I'll double check that.

@guttridgeb: ah I was expecting a Hulk one. Is the thumbnail on the left sidebar showing up for you? you might need to upload the image again to recreate it.

Moderator
Posted by guttridgeb

@pikahyper: Yeah, I only chose that Hulk screenshot because I already had the page up :)

Do you mean the bit where the other comics in the volume usually show? If so then yes, it is showing.

Posted by pikahyper

@guttridgeb: ok, sometimes images don't load properly, it is showing for me now.

Suggestion:

Can we come up with some standard format for how galleries should be laid out? I've come across some real dumb galleries in my time.

Posted by RazzaTazz

@X35: Sure, suggest away.

Moderator
Posted by X35

@RazzaTazz: Oh i don't really have any specific suggestions... just I think a unified format is needed. Some galleries are a mess with stuff like "RED AND BLUE COSTUME", "RED AND BLUE AND GREEN COSTUME", "RED AND BLUE COSTUME ALT" and then others have just a single gallery called Gallery.

Posted by RazzaTazz

@X35: So your concern is just over the different costumes? Or there are other sub galleries which are bothersome?

Moderator
Posted by X35

@RazzaTazz: Well, I think it's just the case that we need to put our foot down and commit to one specific style of layout. I don't think anyone is really too bothered by the galleries though, it's just one of those things... I notice some galleries are just... well not consistent with others. I'm not particularly bothered enough to say something MUST BE DONE though.

Posted by RazzaTazz

@X35: I dont go into galleries so much. so give it some thought and let me know

What about:

  • Alternate Realities
  • Animated Version
  • Fan Art & Cosplay
  • General Images
  • (Insert Major Story Arc Here) If you really want to break it down.
  • Movies
  • Merchandise
  • Video Games

Only those that are applicable, of course. Obviously not all characters appear in movies or video games, etc.

Edited by guttridgeb

Should I change the Quintronic Man to an object page? Its listed as a character despite the fact it needs driving by five different people to function.

Posted by pikahyper

@guttridgeb: nah, makes sense as a character page, Voltron is similar it has a character page as do its pilots.

Moderator

@pikahyper: I'm doing general grammar edits on some pages, and I'm not sure if Major Story Arcs are supposed to be in past or present tense. I thought present tense, but I wanted to make sure before I did anything, Can you clear that up for me? Thanks a lot!

Posted by pikahyper

@Esquire: present

A pet peeve of mine, and I am sure many others who read/edit articles of late is one very persistent editor going around changing Major Story Arcs to Mayor Story Arcs on every other page, if anyone knows who that is, please refer them to this thread so they can see with their own two eyes the word is major not mayor, as the story arc does not hold political office ina city or township.

Posted by RazzaTazz

@EganTheVile1: Any idea of the pages where that is happening?

Should character plot summaries for TV shows, films and games go in the Other Media or the Alternate Versions section? I was just wondering because putting it in the Other Media results in an inability to use headers to divide stories for TV shows.

Posted by pikahyper

@guttridgeb: if this is information that is not comic related it needs to be in the Other Media section and none of the Other Media sub-sections should be so detailed that they need headers for anything, what are these plot summaries you are looking to add?

Moderator
Posted by wmwadeii

@guttridgeb: check out what I've done for the Transformers characters I've edited. I just list the series with a small synopsis of the differences if any from the comics and then an episode list. Short sweet and to the point as Pikahyper mentioned the site is more about their comic appearances.

Posted by guttridgeb

@pikahyper: I was thinking about putting in some stuff about Smallville and the Incredible Hulk TV shows. How about when a show/game/film has tie-in comics? Would I only put in the comic stuff?

@wmwadeii: Thanks, that looks pretty good. I'll use it as a rough template if you don't mind :)

Posted by pikahyper

@guttridgeb: well you should be ok with mixing most of that stuff into the regular sections of the character pages as long as it doesn't contradict the comics and the tie-in comics are about the same, if they change things like some shows do then that tie-in comic info can be added in an alternate versions section but only if it happened in the comics, anything that hasn't happened in the comics should be in Other Media.
