Valkyrie and War Machine Return To Secret Avengers #17 in a 6-Page Preview

Has anyone else noticed the push from Marvel to bring more attention to Valkyrie in many of their current ongoing titles? Last week we saw the teaser for Marvel's upcoming Fear Itself: The Fearless which showed Valkyrie center stage, and early this week we caught another glimpse of her in an upcoming appearance in Secret Avengers.

If you've been following Warren Ellis' story in the current Secret Avengers then you may already be familiar with what has been going on. In the series' upcoming issue the British government seems to have received some important information, but they are doing nothing about it. Queue the Secret Avengers. MI:13 had received intelligence information regarding abductions that had taken place in Yugoslavia, but unfortunately, the British government doesn't seem to be preventing the situation.

The story begins to unravel when the Secret Avengers look into the situation and quickly realize that they may possibly be dealing with bio-terrorists -- even with the help of Valkyrie and War Machine, the team might be in a really tight spot. But...Valkyrie and War Machine have always been in the Secret Avengers?

Wait wut? weren't they already part of the Secret Avengers?

Secret Avengers on a possible upswing? Not bad. Although I love Kev Walker on Thunderbolts, not to sure about his interiors here, but hopefully his work turns out nicely.

so im confused......is he called Iron Man 2.0 or is he still War Machine?

True, but they haven't been for a while! I switched the title. Better?

I totally forgot WM was in Secret Avengers. When was the last time he appeared? Sheesh. Also, with all his weaponry, he doesn't seem like the type for 'secret' missions. But regardless, last issue was superb.

Is that American Ace's enemy - the devil truck thingy?  I  recall they gave that villain a big upgrade in Ghost Rider, and he's done some stuff since... but this is just absurd. 
 
I wish Secret Avengers would just go away.  I don't have enough Deadpool or X-men titles, nowhere near enough Punisher, and I sort of want Marry Jane to get her own series with spiderpowers... at least over this junk.

Love Brad Walker's art. Is this going to be a series of one-shot stories though? This seems unconnected to Ellis' first issue of Secret Avengers.

Is that American Ace's enemy - the devil truck thingy?  I  recall they gave that villain a big upgrade in Ghost Rider, and he's done some stuff since... but this is just absurd.  I wish Secret Avengers would just go away.  I don't have enough Deadpool or X-men titles, nowhere near enough Punisher, and I sort of want Marry Jane to get her own series with spiderpowers... at least over this junk.

I hate the art... never been a fan of  Kev Walker... and on top of that they always put him in books where Mike Deodato worked and seriously... he just cant compete...

Being chased by a woman on a winged horse is weird, but what purpose does it serve to have an emoticon meter for a right eye? Like I need to know that you hate me with a lowered brow when you're shooting energy blasts at me, lol.
 
I think the last Secret Avengers book I read was the team coming back from their mission involving that crown that possessed Nova. This issue looks like a okay pick-up point.

Such a huge Ellis Fan, but can't afford to pick this book up. May have to peep this in trade. Love Kev Walker. Really wish he'd return full time to T-Bolts

Interesting stuff, but hardly a secret mission with such overt shows of display. Love the artwork, though!

Haven't picked up SA #16 yet, but I am looking forwards to it. Warren Ellis is an awesome writer!

The initial drawing of War Machine's "Iron Man 2.0" armour looked pretty cool. But here it looks pretty generic, and not War Machine-esque at all.

Warren Ellis was made for Secret Avengers. Not that I had a problem with Ed or Nick writing it. Ed said on word ballon that he is not good at writing group books and Nick Spencer was just writing it until Warren Ellis was ready.

There has never really been anything "secret" about the Secret Avengers.

I've enjoyed Secret Avengers but I have to admit it did kinda just plod along and went downhill when it became unnecessarily involved in Fear Itself but the last issue really did bring it to a better level.

you're being sarcastic right?  cause saying that there isn't enough X-men titles is just absurd....X-men, Uncanny X-men, Wolverine and the X-men, Generation Hope, New Mutants, X-Factor, Uncanny X-Force, Wolverine, and X-23 and I may even be missing some....that's 9 titles...meanwhile there's Avengers, New Avengers, Secret Avengers, and Avengers Academy...only 4
