When Ultimate Peter Parker died and we saw Miles take over, if someone would have mentioned the possibility of Miles no longer being Spider-Man, people probably wouldn't have much to say. With this teaser Marvel released today, it's a different story. Could we be seeing the end of Miles' career as Spider-Man?

Chances are, this won't be the end of his career. Too many people love Miles now. And if he's not Spider-Man, who would be? We've seen Peter 'quit' many times in the 616 universe. The question is, why does Miles feel the need to quit now?

The story behind this image will leave readers in tears! What could possibly drive Miles Morales to abandon his role as Ultimate Comics Spider-Man? Find out this May, in Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #23!

This is a requirement to be Spider-Man.

Miles looks kinda taller. Bendis says hes going to do a time jump. i think Miles mother dies and he quits til hes 18. There are lots of lil powered spiders (atleast 42 of em) to empower someone else but i really like Miles and i hope they stick with him

Isn't the whole point of the Ultimate Universe to tell original stories?

#16 Posted by Drewyetti (67 posts) - - Show Bio

Where did bendis mention that there's gonna be a time skip? does it effect the whole ultimate universe or just spiderman? Can't wait for that to happen

#17 Posted by AWeekInGeekdom (229 posts) - - Show Bio

If Pichelli's absent for the arc, will she be working on another project for a bit? Like Spider-Men? Either way Miles won't stay Spider-less for too long but I hope it's a really emotionally driven story.

This whole classic cover thing with Spider-an is getting a little bit old...

The cover is a rehash of a scene in Spider-Man 2.

#21 Posted by Dernman (15251 posts) - - Show Bio

This is dumb. I hear there is going to be a time jump. That the story continues but he will be older. So what it will be in the future while the rest of the universe in in normal time? Maybe instead they just age him and forfet to age everyone else like it's normal. Both are dumb IMO with the later being worse.

Ehh, that's what they all say.

And by that, I mean both versions of Peter Ultimate and Mainstream. Ultimate Peter said he would quit how many times? 2 or 3? Still, can't wait.

@LeaderVladimir: Actually, it's a mirror image of The Amazing Spider-Man #50 cover.

It's probably going to be a story arc leading up to issue #25.

Actually, the scene in Spider-Man 2 is a rehash of a page in The Amazing Spider-Man #50.

This would be surprising taking into consideration that it took Bendis 10 years for Peter to get one birthday. I liked the 1 comic book year equals ten years for us idea.

Who said this will be like the 616 story? The story will probably be completly different. Considering this isn't even Peter Parker... This should only be taken as an homage.

Which was (not surprisingly) from a comic:

Wanting to quit is practically in the Spiderman job description.

#34 Posted by fabo_puertorican (19 posts) - - Show Bio

@LeaderVladimir: No, the scene in Spider-Man 2 is a rehash of a panel in The Amazing Spider-Man # 50. Making the cover a tribute to this issue.

sometimes... sometimes it does modern twists on classic stories, a bit like the movies

Oh I'm sure the story won't be identical to the original. But if Marvel wanted to emphasize the originality of the Ultimate Universe (which, as I stated, was my understanding for its existence: to tell stories with classic characters that couldn't be told in 616 universe), making an blatant reference to ASM 50 isn't the best way to go about it.

Been reading this since the beginning, and I still feel like Bendis hasn't fleshed out Miles a whole heck of a lot - and now he's "quitting"? Sounds pretty dumb to me, kinda early in Miles' story for him to "quit."

#38 Posted by Drewyetti (67 posts) - - Show Bio

@sho3s22: Or i think that Ganke dies which also emotional to the point that it would make him quit being spiderman and leaves the readers in tears

#39 Posted by JamDamage (1118 posts) - - Show Bio

he just go into the Ultimates. He's not quitting.

#40 Posted by nappystr8 (1126 posts) - - Show Bio

I think this is an interesting storyline to revisit through the lens of Miles, but I wish they would wait a little longer, after he's had a few more adventures.

Fury is going to be like, " You threw out the suit? Do you know how much that thing cost! You little......"

So how many times has marvel used this cover now?

#46 Posted by egudino (12 posts) - - Show Bio

If Miles quiets being spider man i give up hope on marvel. It seems that the ultimate comics is the only good thing marvel is putting out at the moment.
