If you picked up the Free Comic Book Day issue from Marvel, you got a taste of the upcoming Infinity story. The Avengers are about to get involved and you know it's going to mean bad things for the team.

Marvel has released a teaser for AVENGERS #18 with the title, "Nothing Lasts Forever."

This August, superstar writer Jonathan Hickman is joined by fan-favorite artist Leinil Yu to show fans what an “Avengers Universe” looks like in Avengers #18! Tying into the blockbuster event of the summer, Infinity, Avengers #18 shows fans what new threats lie beyond the edges of the Marvel Universe!

A powerful and destructive race is on a collision course with Earth and the only thing in their path is the Avengers! But even Earth’s Mightiest Heroes realize the one hope of defeating this dire threat is to unite every great hero across the cosmos…because only with a united “Avengers Universe” is there any chance of survival! But in order to do so, Captain America and the Avengers must join the Council of Worlds as they declare war on their cosmic invaders. And when the key to their success lies within the rebirth of the Skrull Empire, there’s no telling what may happen next!

"Moreso than any other tie-ins, Jonathan's issues of Avengers and New Avengers are an integral core part of the Infinity story--absolutely essential to the reading experience,” explained Executive Editor, Tom Brevoort, Marvel Entertainment. “So these issues that Leinil is drawing are key to everything"

This August, the intensity of Infinity is turned up a notch as Hickman and Yu throw the first blows in Avengers #18!

Council of Worlds

What happened to the Charter? Is that going to be another thing Marvel is throwing out from the old Marvil Cosmic?

Only one man can save the marvel universe from Thanos.

and that one man is a Toy?

Thanos and Chitauri. I recall the Chitauri being mentioned in a prior news post.

@hermatt: Yep, that's why Disney bought Marvel, so they can have Buzz Lightyear join the Avengers.

Coming summer 2014 - Age Of Zurg.

So this is why Yu left Indestructible Hulk. Infinity sounds like the most interesting Marvel event for a while though the bar hasn't been set that high. Still, I like Hickman's plan so far. The event has a solid basis at least.

So glad Bendis won't! And yes, Hickman seems to be a good choice.

This story had better not feature Marvel's current portrayal of Thanos as a cosmic Jeffrey Dahmer.

Ahahahaha. A united “Avengers Universe”

It wasn't enough for every hero on Earth to be an Avenger. Now they have to make every character in the Universe an Avenger. XD

Sooooo happy to see a Avengers event without Bendis involved. The stuff in Avengers so far has been pretty large scale, so like to see how they turn it up a notch for a event.

This has potential to renew my faith in summer events

I really, really don't like cosmic events...and that's pretty much all the Avengers have been so far under Hickman's reign, this has me less than whelmed.

I can't wait for this Cosmic Marvel is awesome and this looks to be a good event at last and I can't wait for it !

Also that cover by Yu is awesome.

Just when I thought I was happy with marvel again for moving back to a 6 issue event rather than a 12 or 10 issue they go and reveal that there are outside books that don't improve the reading experience, but also are "absolutely essential". The infinity preview was terrible. Hickman's Avengers hasn't been much better. I'm avoiding this just like the plagues that are AVX and AU. I just hope I can still pick up New Avengers while the tie ins are occurring and still make any sense of that book. As much as I would hate to drop my favorite book for a couple of months, I will do it.

What if they drop Thanos off in witness protection at the end of Infinity and that's the beginning of Malcolm in the Middle?

Wait...wrong thread.

The thing that caught my attention was "the key to success lies within the rebirth of the Skrull Empire". Makes me wonder what kinda threat this is that Avengers across the cosmos need to help revive those dire warlike folk, and furthermore that this seems like a situation where one must 'use a killer to catch a killer' response. I'm definitely interested though!
