Teaser: Death of the Watcher?

Usually when we post the Marvel teasers, they first arrive in my inbox. Today, something a little different happen. As it's the weekend, and it's been busy, I finally got around to checking my mail and found a postcard from Marvel (how'd they get my home address?). The teaser, as we often see, says very little.

It may not say much the image actually says quite a bit. This doesn't look too good for Uatu. That would be really too bad considering the recent developments in the pages of FF.

May is a long way's off. It seems a little odd that Marvel would start teasing something this early. The only thing on the back was just this simple message:

Looks like we can count on another event in May. But of course there'd be an event in May. There's always an event going on somewhere.

What do you think this could be about?

I hope he does not stay dead too long. I just can't think of anyone who could or would want to kill him?

there is more than just one watcher so doesnt have to be uatu and also the image could be misleading like all marvel events

Wow, we haven't finished Infinity, didn't even start Inhumanity yet, and we're getting a teaser for the next next event. I wish Marvel would stop doing nonstop events, it kills my wallet :\

Man what did Uatu do to deserve that? Poor Uatu.

There's really nothing creatively objectionable about this decision, but I still don't approve. Uatu's my boy.

@allstarsuperman: It was posted in Newsarama.com too, I think they got the same postcard that Comic Vine got.

I just wish we could have six months without an event. BOTA is over, Infinity is almost over, and Inhumanity seems to be a short one that will continue in the Inhuman ongoing. So let's just not do anything from January until May. That would be nice.

Who will warn us of Galactus now?

The Watcher is such an amazing character. Always appearing right before things really hit the fan has always been fun.

With his death, I can only imagine the threat must be huge and will change the Marvel Universe forever.

Aw, man... What if they do a Uatu one shot where he's just going around Earth and the universe saying goodbye to those he's counted among his friends, Tenth Doctor style? Freed from his vow, to do as he pleases. Imagine Uatu and Reed Richards finally talking without Uatu's vow of noninterference standing in their way, or Uatu handing out a warning to Ock that he's seen Peter return, just because he now can. Stuff like that.

But... but... who would want to kill Uatu?

I think it's been established Uatu see's past, present, and future concurrently, hence why he always knows WHEN the s***'s about to hit the fan rather than it just being another Tuesday in Marvel. And it wouldn't be a warning to Ock. It'd be more like a threat: Ock think's he's invincible, superior in every way, that Peter is dead and gone and his return, impossible. He think's he's gotten away with it.

A vow released Uatu is a rare thing, because he's basically an in-universe us: He Watches, just like we do. So he can tell them anything WE could tell them. So him dropping by and telling Ock that Peter's going to return as one of his last acts? Oh, that'll really mess with Ock, because Ock's smart enough to know Uatu doesn't drop by to bulls*** you. Ock'll go scrambling to cover his tracks, he'll be hasty, maybe even careless.

Regardless, it was just a minor, admittedly biased, suggestion. There are other people Uatu could visit in his last moments.

Then again, an Uatu the Watcher oneshot where he's just sitting on some moon or on the Baxter Building talking about the life he's lead and discussing all his secrets with Reed Richards before heading off to his death? I would totally read that.

First Galactus, then the Living Tribunal and now Uatu the Watcher. What is it with Marvel killing off prominent cosmic characters recently? In any case, as long as it's done well (which is unlikely from Marvel) like in the style of the 10th Doctor's farewell or the Silver Surfer's Requiem mini series, I might appreciate this demise of Uatu. His son'll probably take over looking over Earth or his wife.

That would suck. Uatu's awesome. Maybe his baby will become the new watcher of Earth.

An alternate version of Galactus was found in a FF storyline with just his skeleton. And a future Living Tribunal's skeleton was found in New Avengers.

I guess as everyone else in Marvel he managed to came back somehow, but he died there.

I received one to my home address as well. I have to assume it is tied to the Marvel Unlimited (Plus) subscription billing address?

It is an interesting way to spend marketing funds. In fact, I was surprised to see something 1) this early for an event next year; 2) that costs that much money to mail out, when they could have just emailed about it (like all the other teasers).

Heck, at least this teaser was more than a black postcard with "Is He...?" written on it in red letters. ;)

"UGH! ANOTHER EVENT?!" Why are you acting surprised?

My issue is that it's good. That's all I care about. Everyone said the same about Infinity and that has turned out to be one of the best comic book events of all time.

I'm still wondering when we'll find out what happened to the Living Tribunal.
