This May, the shocking truth about Deadpool’s family comes to light in DEADPOOL #29 – an Original Sin Tie-In! And everything you thought you knew about the Merc With the Mouth is about to change.

Nobody knows the full story of Deadpool’s origin, or what happened to his family – even Wade himself. Manipulated at the hands of Butler and the brutal Weapon Plus program, Wade Wilson was transformed into the indestructible killing machine known as Deadpool.

But there is more to the story. Before being fully indoctrinated by Butler’s offshoot of Weapon Plus once and for all, all ties to Wade’s past had to be severed. Now, thanks to the energies of The Watcher’s all-seeing eyes, S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents Adsit and Preston have uncovered the terrible secret of Deadpool’s family. And the shocking truth about their fate will shake you to your core!

“Gerry Duggan and Brian Posehn have struck a perfect balance in their run on Deadpool,” says editor, Jordan D. White. “They know how to bring the funny, but they’ve also been able to reveal the horrific trauma twinkie that lies just beneath Deadpool’s deep-fried batter exterior. To mix disgusting body metaphors in with that food metaphor, the particular scab that they’re peeling off with this story is covering a wound Wade doesn’t even know he suffered…and one that might just be too much for him to handle.”

What horrors lay in Deadpool’s past? And what will happen if they come to light? The earth-shattering truth about Deadpool’s family and their gruesome fate stand revealed this May in DEADPOOL #29!

I love every since one of Mark Brooks' covers.

They should have just called this story "Retcons: UNLEASHED!"

Are you saying this in a negative way?

So far they've been pretty good about changing things in a way that's presented as an advancement of the story rather than an out-and-out retcon. I like that, it's creative. Anyway, Wade's past has never really been that well established, for a time no one was even sure whether he was Canadian or American and I'm still not really sure whether a consensus was ever reached on that, they just kept changing it back and forth, along with everything else about his origin.

@chicken_chokergeist:

about 3 years ago i read a comic detailing Deadpool's origins. It seemed pretty legit at the time. As a boy his father walked out him and his mother, and stuck her with bills and debt that she couldn't afford to pay. Being 8 years old, Wade thought his father leaving and mom's depression was his fault. So he grew up believing that he was a burden to everyone in his life.

That was in Cable/Deadpool wasn't it? I remember that being pretty good.

Even if this is a retcon, it already has backing up to support it.

In The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly, Deadpool discovered that Butler had been implanting false memories into him. The reason behind his multiple origins has been revealed. Which was actually a bit of a genius move by both Posehn and Duggan, because now everything they write is "the real deal" because whatever is retconned will just be discarded as a false memory.

Except for the Cable and Deadpool origin, that one was already retconned when Deadpool shot butler and asked if he was born in Ohio, which Butler told him that he wasn't. Much to Deadpool's relief.

Deadpool is crazy...For all we know it could be all in his imagination lmao. His past is about as clear as the Joker's.

That was the funniest part in that story.

I was about to brush that off as extreme creepiness on your part but Deadpools been a lot more violent since North Korea so its actually possible. Or just an artist thing..

@thecheesestabber: Yeah! I had a conversation with a friend once where I asked him: "If you were in a comic book universe what role would you play there?" He answered: "I don't know but you'd be the most disturbing villain there... Maybe not the deadliest but a villain for sure."

I guess "extreme creepiness" fits the bill. :/

No, but he seems determined to keep him out of the Avengers (and Ultron's origin) for as long as possible.
