Preview: SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN #9

Whoa, whoa, whoa there, Dan Slott! Marvel has sent us info on #9 and it's called "SUPERIOR NO MORE." Apparently, this issue will deliver a change to the Spider-Man mythos just as big as ASM #700 and determine who will be left as the "true" Spider-Man. Does this mean Ock's getting kicked out... or will he fully take over and remain as Spider-Man -- you know, at least until they probably need Peter back to help promote The Amazing Spider-Man 2. And next week they announce Amazing Spider-man 701.

Here's hoping post One More Day Peter dies this Doc Ock thing end's and either Miguel O'Hara,

Ben Reilly or Miles Morales replaces him.

I hope Peter wins in the end, although this doc ock as spiderman has been kind of interesting.

I think it's going to end with two minds becoming one. The Superior Spider-Man will have a split personality.

Im glad Stegman is staying on the book. I thought he was gonna pull a Tony More on Deadpool

But wasn't Ock spider man in age of ultron? And isn't AU the future? So maybe dock just wipes peter's ghost out of his conscience. real peter wasn't in the AU issue.

I have no faith in marvel and I don't think this will end the way anyone wants it to.

@teerack: I know what everyone wants, and so does Marvel, but you're right, it will probably go the other way.

At this point as long as Peter is Peter and doesn't have his mind permanently changed by merging with Ocks or something equally awful. I could care less if Peter gets to die a hero or just flat out quits. I just hate the idea of his identity and character being stolen and twisted. Hell I wouldn't mind Peter losing his powers and letting Ben Riley, Miles Morales, Kane Parker, or Anya Sofía Corazón take over as the new Spider-man. Hell I wouldn't mind if there was no Spider-man and they came out with a book called The Amazing Alpha.

Ock was Spidey in the Superior Spider-Man Age of Ultron tie in. Peter was Spidey in Bendis's actual Age of Ultron comic. Yes, it makes no sense.

And Age of Ultron happens now, not in the future.

Ben Reilly prob wont happen, but id love to see it. I was hoping ock spidey would run into kaine.

Regardless of what happens with Superior Spider-Man, Pete will ultimately be Spidey again. Might take a while, though.

Marvel's solicitations for this particular ish ("it will make you so angry!") don't fill me with much optimism for the short term.

They explained it as Spock pretending to be Peter.

Yeah, unconvincingly. He changes costume between the issues (in AoU he has Pete's paler blue, without the split toes of SSM), and why would he drop this pretense in his own book but not Bendis's?

My theory? Ock gets a new body and becomes a new Spider-clone ala Ben Reilly in the 90s. lol

Seriously now, what is so great about Ben Reilly? He was okay back when he was spider-man, but it would be a waste to use him as the the new spidey when he's just blonde Peter Parker. If when he does come back I think it would far more interesting to see him trying to break away from that identity as the perfect clone, become his own man.

From what I hear certain writers didn't even want to use Spock but they have no choice. I'm guessing this is the result.

im rooting for doc ock for now. i want this to be a long term change that lasts for a couple of years. so kick peter parkers a$# doc ock and keep him trapped for a little longer!

If anything this might lead to yet another costume change (judging by that Ramos art on the Spider-Week promo released last friday).

I've really enjoyed Superior Spiderman - Tbh, I've treated it as a story arc, the last battle between Peter & Ock and it becomes the highlight of my week each time I pick a new issue up! :D

That cover is beautiful. Marcos should just do every superior cover. Ramos last cover was horribly unattractive.

Maybe this will be the one issue I buy of SSM! And maybe it'll be the last one if ock takes over! Find out next ladies and gentlemen!

Maybe Mephisto just says the whole SpOck thing didn't happen and Ock is once again alive, healthy and youthful. All they have to do is find someone, fall in love, and be willing to dump her, and they can get anything they want!! muhahahahaha

The way Slott's been pissing all over Peter's good name and legacy, I wouldn't be surprised if Otto fully purges Peter's consciousness, then celebrates by doing a line of coke off a hooker's ass.

It's such a sad thing to see a good writer like Slott bring Peter down and ruin his excellent writing streak. Yet even good writers can fall that much is certain. What makes it worse is that even if Slott does get rid of Peter and keep SpOck completely, it'll be meaningless since Peter will be back a month or 2 before Amazing Spider-Man 2 to promote it or maybe even sooner. On the other hand, if Peter returns now, this'll demean the whole concept and point of Superior Spider-Man. Either way, it's a lose lose situation in my eyes.
