@no_one777: They're super hero comics......when have they not relied on nostalgia and gimmicks? This isn't anything out of the ordinary.
It's odd how Doom appears to have to remind everyone on a near constant basis of his power, so what are the chances that he is actually far less than omnipotent?
@outside_85: Doom's greatest power is his ability to overcompensate.
@outside_85: Doom's greatest power is his ability to overcompensate.
And speaking in 3rd person
@tensor: Pretty sure that was covered in New Avengers.
@sprior93: I want to give you examples but the best superhero comics use past continuity masterfully which may count as nostalgia.
@neon_jackal: Did not read that at all.What issue?
Unlike Convergence, there is at least a plot here that was built up over the last three years, and threaded throughout all the Avengers and New Avengers storylines. Many of the side books are fillers. They're short mini-series, and utterly inconsequential. I won't buy any of them until Secret Wars is over and I know which ones are important to the new ongoing Marvel Universe (once Earth and everything is restored, because you know that THAT is going to happen).
@tensor: Issue 33
So if i remember correctly, during the first secret wars, Doom became somewhat of a God like he is now. Except it didn't last this long or go to this extent. He got it from absorbing the power of the Beyonder, whose power was (maybe IS, if he is still around in comics i haven't seen or heard of anything with him in it) technically Beyond that of the likes anyone has ever seen (i think i also read that behind the beyonder someone guy by the name of the Particle Man or something was the second most powerful being behind the beyonder. Again i haven't heard of the Particle Man being in any comics since back then. Just a Fun Fact i guess ^~^.) The Heroes and possibly also the villains teamed up to topple Doom. And give the power back to the beyonder. So what I'm wondering is how did Doom get his God-like powers this time and what role did Dr. Strange play in it.
Edit: I'm 16 so no, i haven't read the old Secret Wars so please excuse me if i got my info wrong. I've gotten all my Comic book knowledge from Comicvine.com and the occasional trip to the local comic book store i know that this site is very trustworthy but my memory is not. Ever since i found this site bout 2.5yrs ago i have been coming to this site and reading character bios is how i got all of my info on comics and story arcs. I am a proud Comic Viner.
@neon_jackal: ty
@no_one777: you haven't read any of them at all, have you? They've all been really good (tbh, already better than Convergence was ), though some are better than others.
It's actually Molecule Man (Owen Reece) not Particle man, how Doom aka Rabum Ala obtained his powers was discussed in New Avengers 33 thou something happened after his failed attack on the Beyonders which has yet to be explained.
@earthsmightiest: Thanks for the correction! Who's Rabum Ala? Are you talking this secret wars or old Secret Wars?
Rabum Ala is the name Doctor Doom took after he and Owen went back in time to begin their campaign against the Beyonders.
Current 2015 Secret Wars
@earthsmightiest: By Owen you mean the molecule man? I thought that guy taking with Doom in this preview was Dr. Strange
The statue is of Owen Reece aka Molecule Man:
To better understand SW (2015) I would advise reading Hickman's Avengers/New Avengers run, besides being awesome it makes it simpler to understand what's going on
@earthsmightiest: Alright thanks for the recommendation I'll be sure to read it next time I'm art the comic book store. Also i had no clue that was Molecule Man, but more that i look Again it seems very obvious that it is him... since he's holding a... thing that looks moleculey
@bigman1227: Yes I've read some of the side books. They are terrible.
The Tie-in money grabs are hit and miss. They are unnecessary, as we know that only events in the actual Secret Wars book will shape the MU. However, AFTER the new MU emerges from Doom's LEGOLAND, you can go back and read the re-written origins of whatever characters crossover into the new MU.
@outside_85: Doom's greatest power is his ability to overcompensate.
And speaking in 3rd person
This made my day
