@Mercy_: just in time before the movie comes out. does not mean these events will actually get new subscribers to comics.
Marvel's INFINITY is Coming - First Contact at FCBD 2013

@V_Scarlotte_Rose: I think the 3rd one that I'm thinking of was the Thanos Origin story. And since the Infinity Promo shows the Avengers I assume this is separate.
I think that might be seperate.

Wow. We haven't even gotten to Age of Ultron yet....Edit: I am glad to see MARVEL is bring back actual villians instead the "Heroes vs Heroes: Who's side ya on" crap.
What are the chances we'll see Thanos vs Ultron later in the year?
Right on the heels of Age of Ultron, I'm tempted to say
"Marvel. What are you doing? You were toning it down so well. Stahp."
And yet..... Hickman!
As much as I like the annual events, they really should stop with the clichés when describing them. They use the same kind of phrase every time.

@mikeclark1982: By the way, this issue is FREE.
I have to admit I'm torn about this. On the one hand, I am with Mr. Clark in that Marvel is a ceaseless pool of writing drivel whence drooling hulks that are crossovers come from. In that regard Tony - you are correct insofar as that the first issue is free. The remaining 1039310981390 (give or take one) will not be.
Yet I am also a sucker for Thanos. I am genuinely interested anytime he pops up and with Hickman's hand at the tiller I am cautiously optimistic that this event (if it doesn't grow tooooo out of proportion and for reference see how Infinity Gauntlet was done and done well) could be what Marvel needs since bombing everything that happened after Annihilation.
and almost every other character that is mentioned/shown isn't@Jonny_Anonymous:
Thanos is a cosmic character, and so are the Guardians.
GUY PITCHING IDEA TO MARVEL: So, how does this sound... "Infinity Gauntlet II"
MARVEL: Too long, let's just put Infinity.
GUY PITCHING IDEA: But... it's not called----
MARVEL: It's called INFINITY now! Now hit the road, hobo!
GUY PITCHING IDEA: I'm not a hobo.
MARVEL: You are now!

why marvel... WHY? WHY? i swear, you can not look a day online without seeing marvel pump out a new event to try to get more money. STOP IT! can we have one year where we just have self contained storylines?!?! heck, AvX was boring and did not warrant a 75 DOLLAR hardcover which is now being split into two different trade paperbacks which will be horrifically overpriced!
Agreed! I'm still waiting for the fake promise that if the movies were successful we could expect to see lower cost comics.
:
I wonder what made them do this event? a desire to make a good story or desire for disney to cash in on the avengers 2,
you can really see disney exerting control over marvel now.
Hickman and Cheung could doing a TURD event starring Mr Hankey and I'd be excited. The fact is good stories overcome all. I'm tired of events too but a good story is a good story and this has a really good chance to be one of those.
Marvel, seriously we need a break. We need a chance to catch our breaths. Big crossovers used to be special, but now that that's all we get, all the joy and charm and epicness of them all is gone. Age of Ultron promises to kill off half the heroes in the Marvel Universe, and it hasn't even begun yet, and we're already getting a preview for the next event, which promises to be even bigger, and is coming out in the same year. And I'm not coming out here and saying "Oh this is going to suck, this looks stupid," I'm not, I'm not saying that at all. This could truly be the greatest and best written story in Marvel's history, but we've had so many events that even if it is great it won't feel like it is.
And the saddest part is that Marvel not only has said, but flat out brags, about how they don't look at opinions online. They brag about how they never read message boards or the comments on sites because they say that's bad business. They say the best way to tell what people want is to look at sales, but they don't understand that when it comes to big events that's kind of like holding their universe hostage. "Oh you like Thor? Well Thor may die in Fear Itself, so if you want to know what happens then you need to pick it up." "In Age of Ultron half the heroes on Earth are going to die, so if you want to know if your favorite characters live then you'll have to read the story. Sure you could choose not to buy it, but then you won't know."
Well folks, I say if that's how they want to play it then let's give them what they want. To all of you who are tired of these big crossovers, just don't buy them. Even if they say "Hey this changes everything," or "You won't believe who dies," or "This is bigger than all the others ones we promise." If you're just flat out tired of these big events and crossovers, then just don't buy it.

This will not end well
Since when do any of the big stories they are trying to throw out in the past few years end well?

lol couldn't stop laughing because your profile pic made it funnier
Has my patience FINALLY been rewarded? An event book written by JOHNATHAN HICKMAN, one of the few writers @ Marvel I still have faith in?
Oh please, please, please, please, pleeeaase let this one be good, let it be EPIC. : P
Side note: What's the point of designing a cool helmet for Captain Marvel's costume if no other artist is going to draw it?

Well, I think that at the moment in which "it" started was pretty cool, before the Civil War the team already had problems, the the Secret Invasion started and the brought up new problems between them, then they united together against Osborn in Siege, then Fear Itself and they finished with Avengers vs X-men, now they all are friends again, except Scott Summers, but that was all, actually now that I think about it we didn't had a lot of "hero vs hero events" (just two I think), which is a good thing.
Don't understand the hate on this. Trying to make money off of events!? Blasphemous! Not really. The comic market is barely staying afloat. Isn't it obvious people? Not to mention that this is Hickman doing this. Holy %$#*! Hard to imagine this NOT being good. Marvel doesn't read the boards because it is mainly overreacting fanboys complaining about any little thing you can imagine, while the logical fanboys usually wait and see when the comic actually comes out, instead of shooting it down by a simple cover.
This has great potential. They are trying to tie this into the latest phase of the Marvel movieverse. Good for them. Reading this might show us where the movies may go. Plus, Age of Ultron is a self contained event. Stop whining. You wanted events that didn't interrupt the flow of the individual stories. You got it, then you whine about it. You want new original stories for your heroes, then you whine when they do just that. Whine, whine, whine. All I've seen here for years now. Many of you seem to have a good head on your shoulders. Don't take offense to this. Some others, whine, complain, hate events (then you buy all of the events),not buying this (then you buy it), not buying Marvel anymore(still buy Marvel), then you have the nerve to tell Marvel, "STOP MAKING MONEY! LET YOUR COMPANY DIE!"....
I wonder why they don't listen to you? Pfftt. Grow up kiddies.
A paragraph of ranting? Took me 3 minutes to write it. Big deal. I'm not mad either. I just think it's pretty hilarious hearing the same thing over and over for years and years. Like I said, that's why Marvel doesn't listen to everything the fans say. Some just can't be pleased. I mean, you have one of the best writers available at Marvel writing a big event with one of the most popular villains around, and people complain about it? I'm up for suggestions on what would be better. I'd like to hear them actually.
No big deal either way. Marvel's like "Screw you I do what I want." anyway. Heh.
I am just getting sick of Marvel being amazingly unoriginal with their own work.
Go back and look for Avengers Annual #7, it was written in 1977. It features Thanos and, guess what, yeah the Infinity Gems. Fast forward to now, over 35 years later (and numerous 'infinity something' related works) and it would seem they are still milking the same cow.
@Deadcool: Loved your post. You left out World War Hulk. Several heroes who thought they were better than everybody else and that they could secretly betray another hero. Then he comes back and tries to kill them and everyone finds out.
Didn't Marvel essentially just do this with Avengers Assemble? which according to Marvel is IN CONTINUITY and again lets just not explain how Thanos got out of the cancerverse,
at first when i saw this i thought oh great another thanos story that really doesnt help me understand or even care about this character. then i saw jonathon hickman was writing it and now i want to buy every issue of it! way to pick a good writer on a story that will help people understand the character before the next avengers movie comes out, marvel!
Who wants to bet that Thanos finds the ultimate Infinity Gems that can control and alter the entire multiverse, creating the most powerful Infinity Gauntlet, the most powerful weapon in all existence. Six Infinity Gems to rule them all. And all of them within the grasp of the Mad Titan.
