Marvel NOW hasn't even begun yet and we just saw some of the covers to the new #1 issues. That won't stop Marvel from putting out some information. With the news that Jason Aaron and Esad Ribic are taking over Thor's monthly title, we'll be getting a different sort of Thor comic. With the information they released along with the cover, Thor is going to have his hands full.

Someone is murdering the gods of the Marvel Universe and with his own life at stake, Thor must step in to put an end to the mysterious God Butcher! From the blockbuster team of Jason Aaron & Esad Ribic, the Mighty Avenger will not only have to stop this destructive force in his own time, but in the past and future as well! This November in Thor: God Of Thunder #2, the Odinson – with the help of his younger and older self – follow a trail of blood to save these ravaged worlds.

Each issue of Thor: God Of Thunder includes a code for a free digital copy on the Marvel Comics app for iOS and Android devices. Additionally, each issue of Thor: God Of Thunder features special augmented reality content available exclusive through the Marvel AR app – including cover recaps, behind the scenes features and more that add value to your reading experience at no additional cost.

An all-new direction! All-new threats! All-new weapons! This is Thor NOW!

This is a cool cover. Is Thor Bi-Monthly?? If it is I'm not getting it.

haaha, they have triple numbers already as if it is going to survive. to 100... i give it 20 before there is another marvel revamp.

This looks amazing. Dean White can really bring the art to life.

Thor looks like he's excited for a new challenge. I'm picking up this book. I like Jason Arron's writing, and Thor so this book should be interesting.

So it'll open with a god being killed. Which minor God that no one cares about but showed up a few times before will be killed do you think?

God Butcher? Lame.

#12 Posted by Lvenger (19237 posts) - - Show Bio

If Aaron messes Thor up like he did with his Hulk series at the end, I'll be angry.

#13 Posted by Backflip (2262 posts) - - Show Bio

Sounds identical to Death of the New Gods. Yay for unoriginality

Not liking the outfit. At all.

#17 Posted by spiderman20991992 (126 posts) - - Show Bio

he looks more like thor the barbarian than the god of thunder.

#18 Posted by MrArrogant (149 posts) - - Show Bio

would've preferred another wave of new title info rather than issue 2 listings (this is marvel, we KNOW this'll happen for every book they did last week) but this is still pretty cool. I'm actually getting really excited for Marvel NOW as I dropped most of their books but the creative teams sound amazing.

I like this design!

Double shipping a 3.99 book. Jeez, Marvel...you can at least make it seem like your not just money grabbers.

Excited

@xAnimosity: Agreed. Cannot wait to see what he does with Esad Ribic's work (as I recall I don't think he coloured Ribic's Deathlok Nation arc in Uncanny X-Force).

Part of the book is set in the viking era when Thor was young, that's why he looks like that, the other parts are modern Thor and King Thor when he is old and rules Asgard

I'm digging this, even coming around the the classic font.

Has anyone else noticed that the right side of the #2 cover looks like it joins up at the left side of the #1 cover?

Yup. And the right side will join up with the third cover.

I don't like this cover actually..

#31 Posted by kuma_far (510 posts) - - Show Bio

Thor looks so frickin' ripped

#32 Posted by Phandemic (32 posts) - - Show Bio

Man what a great cover! I was iffy if I would be getting into Thor from the first cover revealed, but now I will most likely be giving it a shot

#33 Posted by bigsoto74 (216 posts) - - Show Bio

That is a tattoo worthy art work... I love it

Esad Ribic

ALL MY WANT!!!

#35 Posted by RedheadedAtrocitus (6885 posts) - - Show Bio

Wow, that looks certainly like God of War had no influence at all whatsoever now, doesn't it? Hmm, the outfit I'm not wild about because it makes Thor seem too much like the mythological Thor of Aesir myth and not the more Asgardian look we've come to love within Marvel. Just my opinion.

#36 Posted by Misanthrop (13 posts) - - Show Bio

I love Jason Aaron's work...will buy it.

Actualy that is young Thor from the Viking era before he earned the right to use Mjolnir, which is why he is wielding an axe.

Yay, another stupid idea full of originality...

Remember how Aaron finished off his Hulk series? It doesn't instill much confidence in readers for his non X-Men work. Plus modern Thor hasn't had a good series since JMS and Gilleon were writers.

He has done other work as well. His PunisherMAX, Ghost Rider and if you don't count Wolverine as an X-book were all great. Not to mention his creator-owned work has been spectacular. His Scalped is currently the best creator-owned series out there.

Remember Aaron's Ghost Rider and how ridiculously amazing it was?

No?

Then go read it.

You'd be doing yourself a favor.

Wait, he's still got the cape and... an axe?

That cover looks fantastic. Loved Aaron's work on Wolverine and Ghost Rider even if he had a rough run on Hulk. Surprisingly, I'm tempted to see more of this.
