There's a new Hulk series. While we could complain about the fact that INDESTRUCTIBLE HULK is ending so we can have an adjective-less HULK title (once again), I say let's focus on how crazy and exciting this new arc/direction sounds. As with the other All-New Marvel Now comics, we have a new beginning/jumping on point. Mark Waid is still writing Hulk (very cool) and joining him is Mark Bagley (this should be interesting).

It all begins with the question, "Who shot Bruce Banner?"

Who shot Bruce Banner? That’s the question on everyone’s mind this April when critically acclaimed creators Mark Waid and Mark Bagley smash into the epic, all-new HULK #1 – as part of the All-New Marvel NOW! initiative!

“As our series opens, Banner's at death's door”, says Waid. “…having learned something about himself that cuts him to the quick and calls into question everything he's been doing for what he believes is the public good. And things don't improve for him from there.”

“You'll see Bruce Banner in a whole new light,” Waid continued.

The victim of a near fatal gunshot wound – Bruce Banner lay inches from death. Did his unknown attacker want the Hulk dead? Or Banner? As Banner clings to life, he’ll realize he’s not quite as indestructible as he once thought. If he survives this, his darkest hour one thing is certain – he won’t ever be the same!

“With a list of enemies as long as the Hulk’s, almost anyone could be behind Banner’s assassination attempt,” says Senior Editor Mark Paniccia. “But the real mysteries are yet to be revealed. Mark Waid has mind-blowing revelations in store for the readers that will have them talking for years.”

“The answers will have Banner going down roads you’d never expect and wait till you see what’s in store for Hulk, continued Paniccia. “And just how does the Stark family play into all of this? Ha! Fans are going to dig!”

How will the Green Goliath solve the mystery of their enigmatic attacker. And the answers will shock Banner to his very core! Don’t miss a single moment of this bombastic new series when HULK #1 smashes its way into comic shops this April!

I really hope constant relaunches won't become the norm. Then again, I'm not a Hulk fan, so this doesn't affect me (I just worry it may happen to some of my beloved Marvel series).

I have been enjoying Indestructible Hulk but I am happy it's going back to the norm with adjectiveless HULK. Feels more fitting. GO HULK!!!

Interesting that this interview plays up the mystery aspect of what Waid plans to do in this new Hulk series whilst the CBR interview hinted at a greater role for Hulk and more action. Still, all these factors sound like a superb mix in this new Hulk series. I can't wait to see how Waid'll change Hulk's status quo even more!

I think looking at these as relaunches is wrong. I'm thinking about them as seasons of a TV show. Like, here's 12 months to tell this story that's with this character from this creator. And then they all turn over with new #1s to tell the next story. I like it. Makes it easy.

I agree about the relaunches. We need to stop worrying about them. I'm not a fan of them but we need to focus on the stories. If making it a new #1 makes it easier for someone to decide to try the book, great. As long as they don't neglect or ignore what happened before. Ideally they'd retain the original numbering somewhere for long time readers. I just think there's other things to worry about. This appears to be Marvel's way for the time being. As long as the stories kick-ass, I can accept it.

So any issue number above 10 is bad in the comic industry these days? When in reality Hulk is in the hundreds (? too lazy to Google). How can Banner be shot and at death's door if Banner can shoot himself in the mouth and Hulk-out fast enough to live without a SCRATCH.

Not sure about this just yet. I really started enjoying Hulk stories around the time Rulk came around, I believe there were 2 ongoings at the time (Incredible Hulk and Hulk) which were both enjoyable. I feel like after all the "Fall of the Hulk" stuff and related, Hulk's place in the greater Marvel U was kind of up in the air as well as whether he was intelligent or not. I really enjoyed The Incredible Hulk that Jason Aaron wrote where Bruce was kind of evil in the beginning and was leading Hulk along some mystery plan. I'm excited about the talent attached to this new book but really hope the address some of the Hulk issues.

Not defending, but I would think that Hulk knew that Banner was about to shoot. He also is his sense of self preservation. One of Banner's greates menaces has always been of not being able to see an attack until the very moment he is hit.

Maybe Marvel should start calling each volume by the story title if they are going to relaunch every year. That said, I for one am renewing my objection to the company as a whole due to this practice. And normally I'd jump all over a book with Waid and Bagley.

Can't stand these relaunches. In a few years you're gonna need a college degree to understand what order their series are to be read in.

Meh.

I'm taking everything said here with a very large grain of salt.

Besides, shouldn't they realize that shooting Banner would only cause him to transform into the Hulk? It's a survival technique! Self preservation, for crying out loud! Banner/Hulk have dealt with a lot worse than this.

And why is it that everything has to be connected with Stark? Am I the only one sick and tired of Marvel shoving their MCU inspired themes down our throats? It's getting F'ing ridiculous!

And it's quite obvious as to who is the most likely assassin. It either SHIELD or someone connected to them. No real big mystery there. And I'm willing to bet that I'm right.

Let's face facts here.

Waid's run has been lackluster and utterly pointless from the get-go.

Banner/Hulk have lacked direction ever since Greg Pak left the series.

@theacidskull: I liked it better than Waid's Hulk. If Silvestri had stayed on for the entire first arc it would have been a classic.

Since it seems like a yearly relaunch is trending at Marvel. Perhaps they could leave the titles alone and just add Vol. 1, Vol. 2, etc. every time it relaunces

Indestructible Hulk, Vol. 1, #1, 2, 3 . . .

Indestructible Hulk, Vol. 2, #1, 2, 3 . . .

They can still advertise the heck out of new writers and artists or a new direction or whatever, but what would really be nice is if they could actually have the same writer and artist on the book for the entirety of the specific volume's run. If they advertised properly, they could assure potential new readers that they don't need to read previous volumes to enjoy the current run. Every couple of years, they could put out some sort of "Marvel Universe" thing that would cover origins, powers, changes and so forth of those headlining comics titles. This could also make it easier for readers to drop a title at the end of a volume, but I'm sure Marvel doesn't want that!

BTW, they kind of did this thing over in Ultmate Marvel with the Ultimates and Ultimate Avengers having limited runs, a short pause, then a new creative team would take over with new numbering.

Okay guys, i have no idea what is going on with hulk, have not read him in well, years, and when I did I read only a few comics, is he separated from Bruce or what?
