The announcement was made last summer for a new JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA series by Geoff Johns and David Finch. It's not surprising that we'd get another JL series since we have the main book, JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK and recently JUSTICE LEAGUE INTERNATIONAL. What made this odd was the team roster that was announced.

Some of these characters have never been League members. We have thieves, killers and some young and inexperienced heroes. It's just not your typical JLA roster.

Geoff Johns talked to USA Today about the book.

It's not Batman and Superman and the big, big characters, and we can do a lot of pretty crazy stuff with these guys. People are going to be pretty surprised. It gets a little bit more wild than what you'd see in Justice League proper.

That's what seems appealing. This isn't necessarily just another Justice League book. The first issue is on sale tomorrow.

Here's a preview:

In the second page of the preview, Superman has a yellow belt instead of red. I think I like this color choice better.

I go back and forth a lot on whether or not I like Finch's art. It's very Jim Lee-ish, but not as clean...

Looks really interesting. Also on the topic of interesting: the preview style.

On the last panel, Finch wanted to show what Catwoman' role will be.

#6 Posted by LordXorn (34 posts) - - Show Bio

Could Catwoman be any bustier in the last pic?

Honestly the only reason I'm buying this book is for Martian Manhunter. Vibe looks lame as hell.

Except for the Vibe part, couldn't agree more.

I can't wait to get this, but I feel kind of bad. Because DC has so many good comics out now. And they rebooted first, so they kind of got priority. (I don't like to jump in the middle of series) If Marvel had rebooted first, then I would probably have way more Marvel series than DC. Add another DC to the list, while taking a Marvel off because I have to keep my comic budget under 40 dollars. :(

I just bought the New 52 Superman action figure and after this picture, I'm kind of pondering if I want to paint his belt yellow or not. I've been excited for this since I first saw the preview, like many said, mainly for Martian Manhunter. I am definitely picking it up and I agree about Catwoman on page 5, she needs to zip that thing up a bit, those are about to fall out.

Catwoman in the Justice League is a pleasant surprise. :D

#13 Posted by G_Money_Christmas (884 posts) - - Show Bio

@Nightw BR: Do you mean Catwoman or her sweater kittens?

#14 Posted by Trodorne (2498 posts) - - Show Bio

Im guessing this is just suicide squad but with super heroes. Waller will have all of them under her control at all times. she does not care for super heroes as long as they do as their told. If anything this series will pick up many of the suicide squad readers. maybe those who read thunderbolts/dark avengers. beyond that, I am not sure how many actual new readers this would pick up.

To me the only two biggest selling points are amanda waller and Simon Baz. and its great Green arrow is given a chance with the league again.

Very nice interiors! Finch is quite the penciller, but I think I agree with others...did Catwoman suddenly get a silicone injection to her chest?! O_o GO JLA!

#16 Posted by ccraft (5573 posts) - - Show Bio

Can't wait to read this, JLA team should have dangerous characters. I can't wait to see what goes on in this book.

I heart David Finch. I don't care 'bout the haters, I heart Hawkman and Martian Manhunter. Is that Katana? If so, I really dig that new costume design. Pretty wild having Catwoman on board.

#24 Posted by spinningbirdcake (1430 posts) - - Show Bio

I hope Baz keeps getting featured in G.L. because he's the only one I'm interested in. Never been a huge MM fan and he's the big draw.

What I find funny about this book is, they do not have one super strong person on the team. Then I look at the Justice league and... wonder woman, aquaman, superman, captain marvel... they took all of them... Still, I like the cast and want to give this a shot.

i think Hawkman might also have at least enhanced strength.

Is this supposed to be the Avengers movie version of the JL? They got a big strong green guy, an archer, someone who fights in American patriotic garb,.. Hawkman would be the Thor.. Katana and Catwoman would be Black Widow. They even got Waller to be the Nick Fury.

This just leaves Vibe and GL to fill out Iron Man. Its a stretch but I think I've cracked it.

#41 Posted by Dud317 (298 posts) - - Show Bio

Really torn on this book. I'm interested in Baz, but is his main feature in GL ending when Johns leaves (leaving room for Hal and Sinestro to return)? Most of these characters are on my b-team or even lower. Found it funny in the preview by Trevor saying "That's why a Justice League of America will never work." Think it's Johns poking fun at fans expectations of is book? Johns name alone will slingshot the series a couple of arcs, but I just don't have a great feeling about this. Am I the only one?

#42 Posted by nappystr8 (1155 posts) - - Show Bio

Although I've been waiting for this book eagerly since it was announced, and was always going to pick up the fist issue, I must say Johns's work on the regular Justice League book left me so cold that I was worried JLA might suffer from a similar straightforwardness. But from what I can make out from the preview, this book will be everything I was hoping it would be. Seems like this will easily be the standout Justice League book.

It's funny, between this, and the quality gap between Jonathan Hickman's stellar New Avengers and only soso Avengers, it seems like periphery books are outshining high profile titles across the board.

@BigBDawg: Really well known to who? To regular comic readers all of them are well known except maybe Vibe. To new readers? I'd say Catwoman, GA, and maaaaaybe MM are well known. The latter is so only because of the JL show, though that was several years ago.
