Ian Churchill Variant Cover for GREEN LANTERN #7 Revealed

Having variant covers isn't a new idea. They're starting to become more and more impressive each month. In many cases, it's a great way to see another hot artist's interpretation of the characters. In some cases, they can actually be a little more interesting than the regular cover.

Today, DC has revealed the variant cover to GREEN LANTERN #7 by Ian Churchill. It is pretty impressive.

Issue 7 kicks off the next arc, "The Secret of the Indigo Tribe." Hal and Sinestro have to work together (again) and travel to the Indigo homeworld to "uncover the truths behind a heinous crime."

Ian Churchill explains how he came up with this cover:

The GREEN LANTERN editor, Brian Cunningham, asked for a cover involving the character Indigo-1 and to have the two Green Lanterns completely defeated! I came up with a few thumbnails and Brian preferred this one because he said he liked the way it reversed the clichéd view of the male on the throne flanked by females.

If that wasn't enough, check out the penciled version as well.

GREEN LANTERN #7 is on sale March 14. It's written by Geoff Johns with art by Doug Mahnke and Christian Alamy. Here's the regular cover (by Mahnke) as well as the official solicit for the issue. This is going to be another great arc.

"The Secret of the Indigo Tribe," part 1! The GL team of Hal Jordan and Sinestro must investigate a crime that leads them to the Indigo homeworld in deep space. And what they find there will not only shock them, but also change the way you look at Lantern lore!

Why are most variant covers always better than the regular ones? Give me that variant!

I am hoping that this storyarc and it's tie in with Blue Beetle will really shine. I love the idea that the various Lantern Corps are not infallible.

Variant definitely looks rad, but my local comic shop always overcharges for them. May pick it up on Ebay though--that's where I usually pick up variants. What do you guys usually do?

Kinda reminds me of the issue where they introduced that male Star Sapphire.

Variant cover is awesome, Indigo hottie is win, but what I really want is to know how GLs are going to continue since the guardians have obviously gone evil overlord

Yeah, my shop charges for variants, too. But there's a convention coming up in Seattle, so maybe I can find a cheaper copy there.

That's not too shabby of a price actually.

I don't understand why the Indigo Tribe appear far more powerful than any other corps.
