Last month we saw a glimpse of what's to come in the SUPERMAN title now that Scott Lobdell and Kenneth Rocafort are on board as the new creative team. The zero issue gave us a look at Krypton before Superman was even born and the planet was destroyed. The issue also ended with an odd cliffhanger we'll have to wait to find out more about.

Today, DC Comics has released a first look at SUPERMAN #13, which has the Man of Steel testing just how strong he is. It appears Superman also has a new person to confide in.

Ah man if I knew you were gonna post these scans I wouldn't have made a similar thread. Ah well these are still awesome scans all the same. Lobdell is earning my trust on Superman, as it should be after his poor Teen Titans, Superboy and RHATO run.

Rocafort's works looks good, but I can't stand Lobdell's writing. So wordy.

I like how they had to put the S and only the S on his chest because otherwise we'd forget who he was because we're all that stupid.

God, Lobdell. Overly wordy, overtly sexual, etc. Not to mention Superman sounds like a goddamn 13 year old. Screw this, I'll wait for Man of Steel.

@xtremekidx: No, the only thing you need to know is that Helspont, a very powerful Daemonite alien came to earth, had a fight with Superman, beat Superman pretty soundly and left, hence why Superman wants to test the limits of his abilities.

Well, it's cool for Supes to have someone to just talk to and things, But why couldn't it be Professor Hamilton? That was one of the things I liked a lot from the 90's cartoon. Hamilton helps Superman out on figuring out his power levels and Superman helps Hamilton with occasional science missions. It was cool.

Ok, this doesn't necessarily look bad, but the line "dollar on the nightstand"? Really? Do we REALLY need this in a Superman book, at least when sent toward Superman? He isn't Roy or even Dick Grayson, and won't just sleep with anything that opens its legs. This is why I was hesitant of such a writer taking over Superman.

Aside from that, awesome. Love it when Supes does science-y stuff like this.

@Jonny_Anonymous: Nope not really. Though with hindsight I admit it's not as bad as Lobdell's run on Teen Titans or Superboy. But it's still below sub par IMO.

Looks pretty awesome... Can't wait. Even though the first issues were pretty awful, Superman and Supergirl are the only 2 books I have every issue of and I can't wait to see how Lobdell does on this run. Hopefully he can keep this up, but I agree on it being overly wordy.

@Jonny_Anonymous: I never even wanted to pick it up nor did I ever. The way the characters were written in the first few issues put me off it completely and I haven't paid any attention to what's been going on in the series.

Such as? Besides I only read 8 comics a month and follow a few more online. Even if this series were a bit better I still wouldn't pick it up.

To those people who think it's too wordy, really? I mean it's not really THAT bad and I like it as it is. If you think it's too wordy, then have you guys read X-Men: Mutant Genesis? Now that's TOO wordy for me. Don't get me wrong, the writers are excellent and they're awesome story-tellers, however it was TOO wordy for me, far more worse than Superman #13.

...What? Literally just no. No. Are you kidding me? All Star Superman is a masterpiece.

I don't know what "All Star Superman" you read, but it is NOTHING like these scans up here. I don't think the All Star Superman I read had Clark acting like a dumb jock saying "Seriously?! That's awesome!" or "Man, I have to fly" or having awkward sexual interactions with some random lady. The dialogue here is excessive and childish. All Star Superman uses about half the dialogue and still pumps more heart and passion into it's panels.

Edit: I'm not saying that you can't like Lobdell's work. Not my personal cup of tea, but if you like, that's more than fine. But it's nothing like All Star Superman. That's just blasphemy.

@darth_jones: I didn't say it was good looks like a pile of you know what. But the scene is just like when Leo Quintum was giving Superman his diagnosis. Displaying Superman's strength, the female character touching his forehead like the sensitive Agatha. Even the the line They will Join you in the Sun. Like All Star Superman none of the skill in fact it makes me not want to read.

I think that mostly the point, but Lobdell is always kinda tricky, when you think he's getting good at a book he will surprise you and make it even more awesome (but familiar to other books the character has been like you just mentioned A.S.S.) or will blow it completely like Teen Titans went after issue 11

I love the more casual lovable Superman the way Lobdell writes him. In Justice League he just feels so somber. And damn that's an intense feat.
