...Meh... We shall see.
First Look: SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN #1
@TheMess1428: First I believe I said out of respect, second people change there names all the time, third I don't want to have to call him Peter or Peter Ock or Doc Ock or Otto he is to some extent a new character and I would like him to have a new name.
@Trevel8182: He will eventually have a nickname among the fans but as far as in the comics, it won't change.
The preview has done nothing to persuade me into spending $3.99 on this. We still have a guy, the main character no less, celebrating murder (that occurred in a poorly-paced, poorly-executed comic book). I'll spend my money on books that deserve it.
I can understand all who are up in arms about the most recent change--I wasn't too keen on it either, but after giving it a shot, I really don't see it as being as bad as I presumed it might be. Having Doc Ock adding his way of thinking to the entire ordeal (Peter being capable of SO much more --inventions, gadgets, etc.,--and Ock getting to fulfill that role and STILL be a "good guy) puts an interesting "spin" on it, which was rather surprising. I'm anxious to see where this is going! I'm CERTAIN that they'll bring Peter back, but until then, I can roll with this!
This storyline makes the Marvel universe a depressing place . The whole thing stinks of a "The End" story.
I am reading Comics for more than 50 years. Gives you an idea? Like most of you I've NEVER seen this kind of double-trouble on the scene. BUT! As always in the wonderful world of Comics Creators, there is always a big big big surprise to come! So, let's seat and watch the show... I have the feeling of many strange things coming up! Very STRANGE things... Patience...
I've moved past my rage over this, but I'm still angry at HOW this happened and it happened in general. Do you wanna know what my FIRST reaction to this was?
"AAAAAAAH!!!! IT BURNS!!!! IT BURNS!!!! NO!! NO MARVEL PLEASE NO!!! JUST NO!!!!
Is Marvel TRYING to make me hate Spider-Man? Is that it? First One More Day now THIS?!?!?! I feel sick, I actually feel sick. This is literally causing me PHYSICAL PAIN!!!!"
My first reaction to it.
As for the topic at hand, I've calmed down a lot since the news. And after actually reading Spider-Man 700, the first Spider-Man comic I've bought myself since One More Day(Just borrowed from my friends for everything else just on principle of OMD), and I gotta say this was very well done. Am I still mad that the world at large doesn't know Peter Parker is dead? Yes and I rage to no end about that. Do I think Ock will be bearable as Spider-Man? I've decided to give it a shot against my better judgement to find out, but I'm prepared to drop it at a moments notice.
OMD was bad, but I've enjoyed Brand New Day. This is awful though. This makes the Clone Saga and OMD look like Watchmen and Dark Knight Returns. At least when Cap died, Bucky stepped in. Spidey dies and the man that killed him has taken over his body. I want to pound my head against a wall. I figure this will go away by the time the next movie comes out, but this is frustrating.
Its an interesting concept, but not worthy of its own title where peter parker (the real parker) is basically mia/dead/on hiatus.
I wish someday marvel decides to do a reboot and that way they can put this idiotic title as a bad memory for all the true fans of spider-man
I have posted this before peter parker will come back as BEN REILLY, then kick the hell out of ocktoe spider!...let it be so!
"Moriarty is Sherlock's head. Prince John in Robin Hood.'s The biggest villains in the body of the greatest of heroes, wanting to do good," Slott compared to the newspaper. "I want to make a stylish Spiderman Batman - a little scarier, darker," added the editor Stephen Wacker.
They just want to sell more! Instead they are improving their stories, looking for good writers writing things that please both the older generations of fans as they currently appear. They choose to do something flashy, not respecting the chronology of the hero. okay that they need a lot of new readers with time fans will abandon the magazines, after all our life is race: work, school, appointments and duties. They're just appealing, easiest way to sell. Gaga become a life pursued the fashion of the moment, without having a tendency content simply stupid.
The worst that history is going to be bad-ass, but still will have bought this stupid shit just to give a bad job!
You know how shitty formulated this idea?! Ai vai theory ...
since the spider is no longer being as profitable as before in magazines, we turn it into a Batman, most know that if we do get violent face of nowhere staff will not like. ideas? - Question the chief editor.
Lord?! - Speak the intern. - And if, you know, we did a clean chronology filing unnecessary things, shaping it again? It worked with Batmam and fans did not complain much.
Batmam bright, violent as Batmam is the following had a brilliant idea do it switch bodies with a villain. It's perfect! - Tell the Boss
But why would the villain's powers for good spider? you know ... I do not know .... - Intern afraid
Bullshit! - The young editor ribbon with indifference. - Any explanation and good, and only enfiarem down his throat. Now excuse me I will count my thousands of dollars.
Hahahahahhaha ... I (suits the marvel) love nerds bill upon idiots who buy it without seeing how bad and this garbage! Hahahahaha ....
I've always considered "body swap" to be one of the laziest, most uninspired plot devices in all of fiction, let alone comics, so the fact that Marvel used a body swap to kill Peter Parker completely at random, and then somehow justified the randomness by basically having Doc Ock say "I'm not going to tell you how any of this makes sense because hahahaha u mad bro?" has made me lose a whole lot of respect for the writers involved. I've been using ASM #698 to troll my more dedicated Marvel-reading friends because I thought it was a hilarious idea for a joke that wouldn't last more than a couple of issues. Now that I see this is the next big step for the Spider-Man franchise... it's kind of surreal in a "you could have written literally anything in the world and you came up with this?" kind of way.
At the same time, I think it would be cool if they used this allude to some really creepy continuity stuff. Like what if the future Peter Parker was Doc Ock all a long? As in Spider-Girl's father. OH! What if the secret method Doc Ock mentioned was something he'd always had, and thus has used it before, probably to the original Doc Ock. Whatever is currently in Peter Parker's body might be some other worldly entity that sustains itself by jumping from host to host and completely replacing the original consciousness and is compelled to carry on life the way the original consciousness did, so when the entity took over Doc, he was compelled to do mad science, and now that it's in Peter Parker, it's compelled to fight crime...
I'm just saying, they have ways to make this cool. I just don't trust their ability to utilize any of them.
Just finished #700 and couldn't be any more disgusted. What a stupid, stupid story line. Spidey's GREATEST villain is now Spidey?? Marvel you really screwed the pooch this time. I've been with you a lot of years and even stuck with you through the travesty known as the Clone Saga, but now Make Mine ANYTHING BUT Marvel!! I am now officially cancelling all Marvel from my pull list. MAYBE with the exception of Hulk. THAT has potential. Superior Spider-Man?? F#CK this.
DC I've only hopped aboard with the new 52 so it looks like you and me baby...
@HERO_XXL: Spider-Man isn't about "inventions, gadgets, etc". He's always been about conflict and responsibility and doing his thing with only what he's been given. That's why the whole Horizon Labs thing was such crap. Did you SEE the 'armor' he invented to fight the Six?? Pure garbage. He has beat them before. This is just a sad, sad excuse to try and shock us into buying another rag from Marvel at an exorbitant price. Do they have ANY good writers left?? Maybe Garth Ennis has spoiled me...
It doesn't sound like it, but like your opinion!
When Superman died, we got the reign of the Supermen until the real Superman came back. When Batman got his back broken he too got a temporary replacement. When Captain America died his formerly dead sidekick got the mantle until rogers returned. Similar thing happened with the Flash too, except the hiatus there lasted for more than 20 years...
But when Spider-Man dies, the guy who killed him gets to take his place? WTF. Sure, the real Peter Parker may come back eventually, but how the hell can I possibly cheer for the villain who mind-raped him and stole his body in the interim? To make matters worse Doc Ock is promising to be a better or "superior" Spider-Man than Parker ever was now that he stole his identity, only adding insult to injury. That is seriously twisted and disgusting.
Maybe Dan Slott has no shame, fine. He's just a really creepy guy I can ignore, but it baffles me that the powers that be would allow their one time flagship character to be raped like this.
Not a fan of the direction this is taking, but since I torrent all of my comics and don't have to pay for them, I might as well check it out.
Is it wrong that I hated Amazing Spider-Man #700 in a good way? I am very interested in Superior Spider-Man though.
I just wonder how the Daily Bugle might spin the stories, I really don't like the lenses and claws, but I'll check it out without a doubt.
Let me get this straight. A Doc Ock-bot is not the body of Peter Parker with the brain imprints of Doc Ock and Peter Parker?!
I just do not see this lasting long.
Boomerang has been a part of the Marvel Universe for years now.Deal with it.Rip off Captain Boomerang does not bode well for the start of this new series.
@Meteorite: I actually hadn't, my mistake. I still find the character a little silly. I find captain boomerang silly too. Any boomerang throwing villain actually.....

I CAN'T! EVERYTHING I KNOW IS A LIE! MY WORLD HAS SHATTERED! I'm sorry for not knowing every boomerang related villain in comics, though they're probably aren't many.
There's only 2 as far as I know. Unless Death-Defying Devil counts.I CAN'T! EVERYTHING I KNOW IS A LIE! MY WORLD HAS SHATTERED! I'm sorry for not knowing every boomerang related villain in comics, though they're probably aren't many.

I totally agree.
i'm still interested in the story can't wait to pick superior spider-man in tradepaperback. until then, i believe peter parker will be back until its time for him to come back.
This looks awesome.
I like writers who have the balls to make big changes effectively, and pull it off.
I also don't understand why people are so afraid of change? I know it's your beloved character, but getting the same thing every time gets boring... and Peter Packer has done just about everything.
Let Dan Slott do his thing, I'm sure he'll make a great Spider-Man book.
A silly concept and in no way makes the lead likeable. Even worse, didn't Doc fancy Aunt May!? That could get creepy.

This is exactly what I've been saying. Yeah it sucks that Peter Parker had to die in such a terrible way, but to be completely honest…I think this may have been for the best. It's so important as to how they play up to WHAT Spider-Man is supposed to be as opposed to WHO. With this said, anyone COULD be Spider-man. I just hope Peter Parker doesn’t come back in like a short amount of time and Superior Spider-Man gets dropped. The death will be pretty much pointless.

You gotta wonder why a boomerang. I mean bows and arrows kind of make sense if your not using a gun but a boomerang seems to be pushing it a bit. Death-Defying Devil sounds like a cool character. The closest thing I can think of for a boomerang is the batarang and Batman uses that because its non-lethal. So I guess a superhero would make more sense to use a boomerang than a villain. I've gone horribly off topic from the article.....I guess considering all this evidence now I will read Superior Spider-man #1 with cautious optimism now.
What do we even call him in this series? Calling him Peter is a lie, and calling him Otto just pisses me off.
I'm not buying this. I'm so p***ed of after just reading 700. I know it won't last forever but it's gonna last a while and i don't like this change!
I'll be honest, I didn't avoid spoilers for ASM #698 - 700 because I don't read it. That said, it's understandable why everyone is upset. I'm even a little upset because, while I haven't been reading the series, I've enjoyed Spidey's outings in other forms of media, and I have a few volumes of Marvel Masterworks, Spider-man: Blue, etc.
If you're really upset about this and want Marvel (and Slott) to really know it, don't come posting on Comicvine or other sites about it. Well, I mean you can, but Marvel won't care. The best thing you can do is not buy Superior Spider-man. Hitting their bank account is really the only way your voice will be heard. It's a harsh reality, but the best thing those of you that weren't fans can do is simply stop buying.
This is the dumbest thing to ever happen to Spider-Man period. good art and writing won't change that...body swapping (face palm)
You mean like mostly every death in comics in the last 10 years? The death will be pretty much pointless.

There's also Kaboomerang in the Invincible Universe. However, he's a good guy with boomerangs.
