How does Star Lord survive in space with just a mask?

#2 Edited by TommytheHitman (4147 posts) - - Show Bio

@jonny_anonymous: Because... it's a SPACE MASK! Logic! The real question is... how does the Venom Symbiote survive in space if it's naked from the waste down?

Marvel is REALLY pushing the Guardians for this movie, lol.

@tommythehitman: I thought they could survive in space anyway? I have a picture in my head of thousands of symbionts blanketing a planet from space. Not sure if that actually happened lol

This looks to be quite fun. I'm excited!

Your body would explode instantly if you weren't in a pressurized space suit. Kinda the opposite of what would happen at the bottom of the ocean (where you'd be crushed). See there's no air pressure in space but there is in your body. Anyways. Carry on.

@jonny_anonymous: Space survival is actually not how it is depicted in pop culture. Your skin easily has enough pressure on it to hold in the gases contained inside (though if you opened your mouth, your saliva would quickly evaporate). So too is the freezing cold not a huge issue, because although it is really cold in space, there is also almost no matter to conduct the cold. The one or two atoms that hit them per minute would cool the body, only very slowly. The main problem in space is from the radiation (which is basically everywhere, and enough to flash fry a person) as well as the lack of breathable air. His mask might help with the breathing, but the top of his head and his neck being exposed would lead to nearly instantaneous death, although he might have seen Silver Surfer's girlfriend and realized that she is ok with less and assumed that he too would be protected.

Yeah, that's why I said the second he his skin hit space he'd be dead. I presume Dawn is fine since she is on Surfer's board.

Why does this Silver Surfer look like a snowman?

Thems comics.

i wish marvel promoted the fantastic four even 5 percent as much as they do the guardians, I love the guardians but the writing on the series was so much better before bendis wrote the new series. and they started with number 1 again. the whole annhilation conquest with ultron and the phalanx was better than all the events since ...that was a cool space adventure ...now it feels like marvel is shoving the guardians down our throats, i got a feeling by the time the movie comes out comic fans will have guardians of the galaxy fatigue due to the over exposure. ...are there really any die hard gaurdians fans like x-men or avengers fans ? and if you remember groot used to speak in full sentences and he was very articulate ...now he just says i am groot how dumb is that?

Marvel is REALLY pushing the Guardians for this movie, lol.

It's bordering on obscene since they've made an appearance on Carol's new book (which I guess is why she's there).

I am struggling to stay interested in this book, unfortunately.

A: Alien technology.

B: isnt he still half alien? Maybe they can? Why apply "earth" physics to people who have been to other places besides earth?

Plus they've had Carol on three Guardians covers, and she's had one page with no dialogue. It's starting to feel like they're trying to trick Captain Marvel fans into reading Guardians Of The Galaxy, for whatever reason.

I'm wondering what the chances are of her appearing with them in her own series, and this one, before the actual Guardians series.

#28 Posted by Ms-Lola (8154 posts) - - Show Bio

@v_scarlotte_rose: I feel the same way (about Marvel trying to get Carol fans interested in the Guardians). All this shoe-horning can work against their plans, if that's what they are intending. I'm already picking up Guardians of the Galaxy but if I wasn't, I would pick it up just for having Carol show up. If there is a bigger spot for Captain Marvel in this particular book, then I'd hang on a while longer too so in my case, it would work, haha.

I need to check up on your sales blog for the past month. I don't know which book is doing better (Captain Marvel or Guardians of the Galaxy).

Hulk and Dr Strange as guest stars, cool! This book is so different to most others out there. Quite refreshing.

@hislolita: While I have started reading Guardians Of The Galaxy, for Carol, it's not got me any more interested in them so far. Marvel will get their money from me for the single issues, but I doubt my fandom will go much further.

It seems like they're including several different characters to try and draw in other fanbases, Iron Man, Angela, The X-Men, Agent Venom and now Captain Marvel. I wonder who'll be next.

Sadly, but not surprisingly, Guardians Of The Galaxy sold just over double the number of copies as Captain Marvel in May. :/ Maybe she'll get some higher sales, hyping and hard-pushing if they ever announce a film for her, which there's no solid evidence of. :/

#32 Posted by Ms-Lola (8154 posts) - - Show Bio

@v_scarlotte_rose:

One of the best moves Marvel/Disney could do is to announce a movie for Carol. There's no reason why both her and Black Widow can't get some noise in that department. Being the first to come out with a female solo (I don't count Fox's abysmal attempt with Elektra as one) would look really good on them. Captain Marvel is an all-American woman with military background to boot and think of the money to be made with marketing a line of action figures/toys. It could work with the proper financial backing and sustained hype all the other movies seem to get and would open the door to even more beloved female characters getting attention.

#33 Posted by V_Scarlotte_Rose (6721 posts) - - Show Bio

@hislolita: Yeah, it's looking more and more like DC are going to put out a Wonder Woman film before Marvel does any female films. Pretty unfortunate considering Marvels cinematic universe has been going much longer. :/

I'd love to be able to get Carol merchandise in mainstream shops. I often struggle to find female heroes represented in toy aisles, so this would be a great way to try and make things better. Depending on what was included in the story of a film, there'd be several costumes to do action figures of, like pilot, secret agent, NASA security chief, whatever costume she has, plus a bunch of toys of her costumes that weren't in the film, which happens for some reason.

They could have her planes and NASA and Kree spaceships, big figures of Kree Sentries, Doomsday Man, Mandroids, any other villains and supporting characters like Yon-Rogg, M.O.D.O.K., Mar-Vell, Michael Rossi, etc. Plus kids and adults size costumes would be great. Also, if they were making a female hero film, they may go for some more "traditionally feminine" toys like dolls with hair and fabric clothes. I'd support that if it meant they start making more of them for all genders of superhero characters.

I think a lot of people are under the impression that a female superhero film can't work, so we really need a good one to start changing minds. It's disappointing that Marvel is in power right now when it comes to superhero films, and they have a good reputation and probably a fanbase that will see all of their films, and yet there's no sign of a female film, despite this being the ideal time to start making them. :/
