@jonnyh101: Not really.

First off, Toys R us probably payed Marvel a ton of money to make it exclusive to thier store.

Secondly, by making it exclusive they've made it a collector's item, which means they can charge more. By attaching it to a toy, they attract both toy collectors - which there are more of than you might think - as well as comic book collectors.

Besides, kids love Iron Man and comics - but don't go to comic book stores - put them both together and they will beg their parents to buy this for them. And, since this is a prelude, chances are they will also want to buy the continuation that they probably won't know about otherwise.

You know, when I first saw the Armor Wars preview, I thought that he looked like a 'Steel' and 'Thor' amalgam from an Access series. All they have to do is changes his name to James Irons.

Wasn't the original Secret Wars event just a made-to-order cash-cow for action figures?

If so does that make this retro, ironic, or another concept I'm not in the mood to think of?...

I really like the idea of this, an entire world of Iron Men, basically. Though, I wonder how Rhodey got the Thor gig?

@tyger:

Wasn't Steel already an amalgam of the traditions of Superman and Thor? And that old Luddite guy?

@bunkitz: It's explained in this comic, Rhodes was elected to the position of Grand Marshal of Technopolis, and then selected as Thor of the domain. (On the Battleworld, Thor is a title given to each of the cosmic cops.)
