First Look: SAVAGE HULK #1

“We wanted big names, superstars and break-out talent to tell their unique stories within continuity,” says Senior Editor Mark Paniccia, in an interview with Marvel.com. “That might be now, or using elements of the past and perhaps even glimpses of the future. It all comes back to the current Hulk mythos while letting the talent cut loose with that Hulk story they’ve been dying to tell.”

Prolific comic book legend Alan Davis kicks off the exciting new series in style as a connection between Charles Xavier and Bruce Banner pits the Incredible Hulk against the Uncanny X-Men! But even as hero fights hero – two of the deadliest Hulk foes in history close in from the shadows. Is it only me or the arts looks very sub-par

May grab this is trade. Though Marvel and it's continuous churning out of number 1 issues is alienating me just a bit.

Better then a lot of other characters. But seeing some of your comments about him on other threads, I find you hard to take seriously.

I was excited until I saw that this classic hulk from the early 1960's. I'll give it a chance, but if it's "Bah, Hulk SMASH" I'll drop it. I love Alex Ross' cover. Alan Davis' art is OK.

This first arc might take place before the costume changes.

Don't you just love seeing the original 5 together?

Alex Ross and Alan Davis are one of the best comic book artists of all time.

Davis is 57 years old and he's still as good as he was 20 years ago.

And then in the same preview you have John Cassaday, who was good in Asthonising X-Men but hasn't done anything good since.

Good I needed a new starting point for Hulk.

It's pretty obvious, at least to me, that this takes place in his early days. Hence why the X-men have their older costumes. I'm surprised no one else picked up on the fact that on the cover we also got Havok with his old costume, Polaris also.

Eh, Redundant book. They rebooted Hulk 3 times in 2 years. I think people are tired of him.

These 75th anniversary covers by Alex Ross have been consistently amazing.

This looks like a good place for me to start reading some Hulk. Especially with the X-Men being in it at the beginning. Looks very retro.
